  1. I appreciate everyone sharing. I watched this video earlier. Jimmy like chartreuse and white, white, firetiger, and blue/yellow/white. Very interesting information he gives.
  2. Awesome replies, thanks everyone. That gives me a lot to chew on. I have a black, and a black with chartreuse tips. I've tried them both a very limited a mount. When folks are saying black and chartreuse, I assume we're talking about black on top and chartreuse on bottom?
  3. I've been thinking about spinnerbait colors. I've had success with orangish/sunfish and white. I don't think I've ever had success with anything else. Maybe because I rarely throw anything else, though I do try others occasionally. I was checking ebay out, and I ran across these really bright skirts, I don't think I've ever seen skirts/spinnerbaits that were actually bright like this, most are dull. How would they do? What colors are everyone's sleeper colors? The colors that your normal person might see but not normally consider. Thanks all, John
  4. I got this little Warmouth on a huge hook that I found. I think it was a 5/0 Gamakatsu that I lost in the summer. Pretty feisty little guy. Guess they are called Warmouth for their appetite.
  5. I lost interest from about 24 until about 38. Not because I didn't want to, but because I lost my fishing spots, and other things got in the way. Bass fishing is not my only love, and for a long time, guns/reloading/casting took top priority. Now they sort of share. For me, fishing is a part of the love of the outdoors. I want to impart that love to my boy, so, fishing is very kid friendly, but guns aren't as much. He does love to watch me shoot clay pigeons, but he doesn't get to shoot yet since he's only 4. He can however cast and reel, so fishing is more his speed.
  6. Thanks for the heads up. I much prefer to go any place during the week.
  7. Thanks. No wonder it has a good action.
  8. I need help doing this this jerkbait I found the other day. I put hooks on it and fished it today. It has a good action. No makings. It appears to be good quality, though my first instinct was it was cheap.
  9. Howdy from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
  10. I still use a Zebco 33 occasionally. I did last year some and caught several bass on it. I have 2 reels, both older ones from the 80s.
  11. I do have a new idea that I'm stewing over; Remove the live well/cooler and use that access to remove the water logged foam. Then, fill the cavity with empty plastic bottles. This will give emergency buoyancy and also be light weight. I don't see any reason it wouldn't work, and work well. The foam isn't structural in that area. The only downside is that the plywood under the floor area is likely rotted, though the foam is not water logged as best I can tell from feeling through the livewell access hole. That foam doesn't seem to need to be replaced.
  12. I am not sure what that are called older than a box stapler. I was thinking to find a used one cheap, but that doesn't look like it'll happen. Thanks I'm leaning that way. It'll be the cheapest and easiest, and It'll be about the easiest to remove later on.
  13. Howdy from the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Nice intro, got any pictures of that 9lb 14 ouncer?
  14. Sorry to hear of it.
  15. I use 2 piece rods when I have to for size restriction in vehicles, such as going with a friend in a small car. I've had several occasions when the rod tip went along with my lure when casting. Other than giving your fishing buddies a good laugh, it's annoying as heck.
  16. First, welcome to BassResource! Thank you for sharing. Interesting that a Walmart spinnerbait does well for you. I have a couple... I'll have to give them another go.
  17. I appreciate everyone sharing. In my specific case, the lake we fish, we can fish all day, changing lures and spots and never catch a fish. @riverratryan and I fished it yesterday for about 6 hours together, on the small end which is two large ponds connected to the main lake via channels, and he got 1 bass on a flat sided crankbait. There was at well over a dozen other people fishing too. Some for bass, some for cats and carp, some bluegill or crappie. It has that much pressure every evening from about 3 until dark when the lake closes. We watch what other people use. There is a lot of ned rigs, soft plastics, chatterbaits, and topwater. And of course a mishmash of typical bass gear. I've never seen anyone using scent. If they are using it, its most likely something bought local. I am thinking something a bit more obscure or custom made might help.
  18. Heck... It's not uncommon for me to respool (on a backer) with Big Game a couple times a month on my most used reels. It's just too cheap not to use fresh line whenever needed. Not worth loosing a $5.00 lure for .50 of line.
  19. Mostly in between but often on the clearer side of middle. Rarely on the very muddy side.
  20. I appreciate this conversation, thanks all for sharing.
  21. Roll casting in tight bank fishing spots it's hard to beat a 5'6" rod.
  22. I appreciate everyone sharing. I haven't fished one in a while, but I've caught a lot of bass on one some years back. One of my favorite lures.
  23. I'll preface this by saying, I'm looking for an edge for a heavily pressured public lake I frequent. BUT, I also am looking for an edge in not so pressured waters (ain't we all?). I don't use anything for attractant. I know for reaction baits it probably wouldn't add anything. Correct me if I'm wrong please. But what about jigs and soft plastics? Is it worth having in my arsenal? If so, what does everyone like? I tried Berkley Powerbait Attractant https://www.berkley-fishing.com/powerbait-attractant-1285474https://www.berkley-fishing.com/powerbait-attractant-1285474 when I was younger and I don't recall it making any difference. I probably didn't use it enough to give it a fair shake though. Thanks for reading.
  24. I haven't tried the lighter stuff, but the 10 pound (I think it was) was a nightmare on my spinning reel. I gave it what it wanted - the pocket knife, and respooled. Heck I put Big Game on my boys Zebco and we don't have a problem. He loves the bright green color. I've ran it on spinning gear too, but It's not as managable as others. Thanks, I've been wondering about BPS Excel. Anyone else use it?
  25. Thanks all for sharing. I've been thinking about getting some hair jigs. What colors other than black work for bass? Largemouth in particular. Not saying I won't go with black, just wanting other color options. @riverratryan and I were just talking about this the other day.
