  1. I was bank fishing on a lake and had my lure stuck on something. I managed to bring it back and it came back with a rod and reel that was lost at the bottom of the lake. The rod was a old zebco, but the reel was a red Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000. I know about these reels and this must be a lucky find. I'm going to try to clean it up and get it working again. It must not have been there long, because I was able to clean the exterior easily. Anyone know what exact model Ambassadeur is this? I would like to k ow any information about this reel. *Seems like I can't post pictures, even 1 photo is too large to attach*
  2. How do I clean out the anti reverse bearings from Shimano baitcasters? Since they have nylon components, the cleaning solution should be selected carefully. Such as brake cleaners, I figured it would be a bad idea, as I think it can melt the nylon part.
  3. I have tried to sell a Daiwa Tatula baitcaster reel that was in mint condition. It was never used and it was still in the original box and everything. They are normally sold for $160 to $180. They offerd me $50. I don't think I can accept a offer that is a 1/3 of retail price for a new condition reel.
  4. I have searched around and discovered the Daiwa Millionaire Classic UTD. It comes in 250 and 300 sizes. I think it might be a better fit and is in within budget. I still have to decide between the 250 and 300 sizes. I was looking for a reel for my 8 foot medium heavy catfish rod. So I would use it for cats and if I feel like it, throw some A rigs on it.
  5. I am looking for a round profile baitcaster that may be used for catfish, and also big lures like Alabama rigs or big swimbaits. Maybe 20 to 30 pound mono on it. I've been looking at the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur S in 6500 size. I haven't really decided yet, and would like to consider other options. Are there any other baitcasters that is similar to the Ambassadeur S?
  6. It was not the Shimano slx. Different reel, and it got sorted out I suspected the gears was the issue. I have a brand new slx mgl in the same speed, and they uses the same gears. Swapping them made some improvements, but the problem will still persist in the original set of gears. Maybe I will look into the AR bearing as well.
  7. I have a Shimano SLX XT HG that is making whirring noises. You can feel it when retrieving moving baits like spinnerbaits or swimbaits. This was happening after cleaning and regreasing/oiling. Even though it was relatively brand new, I had to disassemble and regrease gears and oil bearings because it accidentally got submerged in water. I took it apart and dried its components the same day. I tied to find the cause of this problem by swapping parts with a brand new shimano slx mgl. (The parts are mostly identical). Thr problem seemed to improve when swapping the gears, so the gears may be the problem causing the whirring feel. However I could not find any problems when inspecting the gears closely. Does anyone know he best way to fix this issue? Does it needs to be tuned and how to do that? I even completely cleaned the gears and all grease. I used dawn dish soap with water and a toothbrush to scrub the gears clean. Then regreased them with shimano drag grease.
  8. I took out my new Shimano SLX XT on the water and when cranking, it is clicking every turn of the handle. I can feel it in my hand and is noticeable when using moving lures like spinnerbaits. Does anyone know what is the issue is? The reel is new out of the box.
  9. I had a white strike king bleeding bitsy jig with a red hook. I rigged a white soft plastic trailer. The plastic and skirt is turning orange, mainly where the contact with the hook is. Does anyone have the same problems and how to fix?
  10. It seems a lot of jerkbait out there have some head down position on the suspend. But never seen one as extreme as on the yozuri 110. I am aware of the "head down" described in Yozuri's description. I thought I would check with this forum and maybe anybody else have the same jerkbait, to double check that it is behaving as designed. I wouldn't want to be fishing with a faulty jerkbait since I tend to do very long pauses and letting it suspend. That means a very long time in one cast and retreive. No one wants to put a lot of time in that one retrieve on a bait that was never working.
  11. I got only one yozuri jerkbait 110 deep. When I tried it out on the water, I can see it have a very steep head down position on the suspend. It was almost head down, maybe about 75 - 80 degrees from horizontal. I know yozuri is a quality brand with many good reviews. Anyone knows if this jerkbait is actually designed with this steep angle and not an error? I have other jerkbaits and if they do have a head down tilt, it is not as much as this yozuri.
  12. Are tackle boxes OK for storing soft plastics? (Both regular and with VCI rust inhibitor?) I'm sort of concerned that the plastics may react with each other. Thinking of putting soft plastic swimbaits like Keitech and Berkley, as well as rigged swimbaits.
  13. The TSI 321 oil however comes in a 4 fl. oz bottle. I think it is way more than anyone will ever need for reel maintenance, and at $20. Is there any other use for this oil? Maybe for firearms or lubrication of other things other than fishing? I think a multipurpose use will help justify the cost.
  14. I am sure I reassembled it correctly. But then I seem to have the same problems when opening up a few of my abu garcias reels for maintenance. Could it be that when handling the parts some of the grease or oil got removed due to handling them, and now there is not sufficient lubrication?
  15. I got a new shimano baitcaster and opened it up to check out the insides. After putting it all back together, it is no longer as smooth as it was before when first taking it out of the box. There is a geary feel and is clicking when cranking. What did I do that may cause this and how to fix?
