  1. I bought some 1 1/4 round floats, the red and white ones. I was trying to figure out how much weight I should use with the floats. Is there a better way than just trying out different weights?
  2. I always try to tie the FG knot no matter what line size. PR knot is the strongest knot. If I want a quick and easy knot the double uni.
  3. Thank you for letting me know about the Fuego LT for $59.99. I got that and I got the Dobyns Maverick. I have no doubts about the Fuego LT, just hope I made the right decision on going with the Dobyns Maverick instead of the Aird-X.
  4. Where do you see the Fuego LT for $59.99? From scheels right? Thank you I will be getting that reel. The Dobyns Maverick is only $79.99. Is the Dobyns worth the extra $20
  5. I would if I could there are no local stores with Dobyns rods. I'm pretty much going with the Daiwa Revros LT or the Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier Spinning Combo. With the Daiwa Revros LT I am trying to find out if the Dobyns Maverick is worth the extra $20 or should I just go with the Aird-X.
  6. I like the look of Dobyns Maverick. How better is it than the Daiwa Aird-X? It is only 20 dollars more since they are on sale.
  7. Right now I want to stay under $150. I have never liked spinning reels, I find them awkward too. But I need something to fish lighter finesse-type lures. I never really gave spinning a good go. I want one that will do finesse and I will stick with it for a while and give spinning reels a chance. I might be wrong and turn out to like fishing with spinning reels.
  8. Hello. I am looking for a combo that will do the Nedmiki, drop shot, Ned rig, shakey head, and maybe a Texas rig worm, and of course, I will be doing Wacky rig. I have been looking at buyer guides from Tactical Bassin'. My budget is around $150. I never cared for or liked spinning reels but I would like to try one and use it for and see how I like spinning gear. Thank you.
  9. I wonder if anyone else knows of this. Is there a site or video that shows this?
  10. I would have to make sure for this time. If I remember correctly about 1/3.
  11. I have been thinking about that. It seems like I always run low on my braid. I got Sufix 832 Advanced Superline Braid 65lb test
  12. A casting reel was what I was talking about.
  13. I did use 20lb mono until I started having big problems with my braid. From what I have seen 10 or 12 is the most recommended size. I have seen some say match the diameter. Is that really the best way or is that just people talking?
  14. A lot of people say don't believe YouTube, so does that mean every knot test and any other line test is trash if it is from YouTube?
  15. I leave my reel and rod in the car. I have tented windows. The mono was always covered with braid. Only today did I get down to the backing from making long casts. I did about 2 casts. I have 8lb mono, maybe I need bigger?
  16. My main braided line is getting short. I looked at the mono and it looked like it broke off but I was like na can't be it has been under all that braid. Well, I cast out and looked at the spool again. I pulled on the spool and sure enough, it was broken. There are several breaks on down the spool looks like. What does that mean?
  17. Here is a good video of it If you have no current the bait will just fall down. With swivels, it is easy to redo the weighted line length. If do not use swivels or hooks meant for drop shots, you have to redo everything to change the length of the weighted line. The hook Fishlegs posted is exactly what I want. The main thing I was trying to find out was stopping the bait from falling. I was asking because I wanted to rig up something if possible for today because there is no place around here that will have hooks like that.
  18. Yes. Every knot has a tag and in fishing, you usually cut it. Source https://dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/Documents/knots.pdf I went fishing today and there was no way I could get a hook specifically for a drop shot today. I did have some 3-way swivels though.
  19. I tried a drop shot and I like it. I do not like the long tag. I looked around and found about using swivels. The problem I have is that there is no current. So any line coming off the swivel to the bait will drop down. Is there a way to tie a hook directly to the swivel with the hook sitting horizontal ?
  20. How small of weight the rod will do is not as important as the max weight right?
  21. Anything besides a Zebco 33 is foreign to me. I used that for 20+ years. But now I got into baitcasters and I love my Lew’s KVD baitcaister but I am finding out that I need to downsize my lures for some lakes around here. I do not like fishing with spinning reels. It feels weird to me and I never thought that I would need to downsize my lures. I have never used anything below 15lb line. That is another reason I want a budget combo in case I don’t like it. I reckon I need to make another post but what is your opinion on Ugly Stik GX2 Spinning combo or KastKing Centron Spinning Reel. Daiwa Crossfire LT Spinning Combo Is another I was looking at.
  22. Right now I only have a baitcaster, It is a Lew's KDV 8.3:1. I was thinking about getting Rebel Value Series Minnow in 1 5/8" and 2 1/2". And the Rapala Original Floater 1.5" and 2". Will the baitcaster have a problem throwing them lures? I was thinking of a rooster tail too.
  23. I live in Georgia. Near Dublin.
  24. I have never used live bait for bass fishing. When I was younger I heard that goldfish was the best but it was not legal. I was at one of the lakes I go to and I asked someone and that person talked about goldfish. One day someone brought some shad. My cousin mentioned shiners one time and I have seen people use bluegill as bait on YouTube. What is the best live bait for large mouth bass?
