  1. Was fishing this last week. 0.8 gram jig, size 10 hook with 1 1/2” Charlie Brewer Grub, just wanted panfish and was catching lots of bass. First bass was probably the biggest one I I’ll hook all year but 4 pound line and no landing net did not end well. Second trip out I was ready, but bass still wanted nothing but the real small lures. Bluegill on the beds here in Michigan.
  2. I just go looking for the under the category and manufacturer you want. Be sure to select even if it says out of stock to make sure, sometimes there are items for sale that say out of stock. Plus not all model will have an open box. I picked up an Exsence reel, box was a bit worn, but was unopened.
  3. Pike….they have no respect for expensive BASS lures.
  4. Main ones I use are Blue Lizard and Think Sport. The Think Sport is very environmentally friendly and reef safe with no BPA and other lab created chemicals. I usually have long sleeve fishing shirt on so even though these are a bit pricey, they last a long time.
  5. Having recently just got into crappie fishing myself, my preference is for a light action. The light action seems to give me better feel of the lure and offers margin when the occasional bigger fish hits.
  6. Having used spinning my entire adult life on the left side handle, I just obtained my first casting rod. The Zebco imprinting of my youth is having me reel the casting on the right. Been practice casting in my backyard and all is good, no issues with right handle on the casting rod. It was a major debate when buying the casting reel having never used a casting rod prior to purchase but figured I did it that way as a kid, maintain the same way as an adult.
  7. The Michigan DNR also does lake census reports on a few lakes every year, some interesting info contained in those reports. I hope to try Cass and Union Lakes sometime this year. I fish in Highland Rec., lots of smaller ponds to be found. Took the kids there when they were growing up, always caught decent bass in size and quantity and a large variety of fish in those ponds. Moore Lake on the west side of the park seems to be interesting with lots of perch and also decent bass. Have seen big Bowfin in Moore Lake. It sets up better for kayaking or smaller boats as the launch area is quite shallow. Find a map of the park and hike into some of the lakes, they all seem to have fish and nobody else fishing them. As a kid caught very large carp in parts of the rouge river in Beverly Hills area ( near 14 mile / Evergreen Road). Lots of fishing to be had without a boat in the SE Michigan area.
  8. Fish more often and learn more about the lakes I fish. Try casting this year. Have used spinning 100% of the time all my life. Learn to use PE line in different situations. Be more patient. Less moving and more trying different baits / techniques when the top 3 don’t work. Land one of the big bass that schooled me badly last year. And lastly, the hardest one… stay out of the stores and websites…..I have enough gear. Not really attainable, but a worthy goal.
  9. I have the Vanquish in both 2500 and 3000 size. I much prefer the feel of the 2500 size for worm fishing.
  10. The security question was something like, the metal wire used for fishing. It was something about metal. I tried “hook” about 2 months ago and was rejected. ?. “Leader” did not work either, so I gave up. Tried to sign up again this week and it worked using “hook”.
  11. Been lurking for some time, lol, finally answered the security question correctly. Has been a struggle ? to get it to accept my answer. Fished lots as a kid growing up, carp, bass, panfish. Some Lake Michigan pier fishing while in college. Some Florida shark fishing on family vacations. Now as I near retirement and having just bought lake property, getting “back” into bass fishing big time. A bit of difference from fishing a Zebco in the 70’s to current model Shimano JDM reels for bass. I really do enjoy all the information, opinions and experiences people share on this site. Lots to learn and experiment with before getting semi proficient with some techniques. 99.99% a spinning person, but, just picked up a Metanium to try casting techniques. Paul
  12. S&W Model 357PD. 41 mag has the size and power without major recoil. why carry? One never knows what you will encounter. Not looking for trouble, but want to be safe if needed.
  13. Lehigh Defense makes some wonderful rounds for the 450 Bushmaster, especially the controlled fracturing. I was not a fan of copper before finding these, now these are in the mix for hunting loads.
