  1. I have always used a 5. something :1 for deep cranking. But the 5xd, and 6xd's pull very easy compared to the deep divers of old. This year I am going to use a 6.3:1 with a 95mm handle and see how that goes, I have already used it a lot for 5xd's and it's fine, and that is my "go to" deep crank. If I end up hating it, I'll go back.
  2. I have been on the lake when parts of it are still ice covered.
  3. Good news. Hope it just gets better from here.
  4. I am planning on moving my TM batts. before the season starts to a new location in my boat to get some weight out of the back. Have everything I need except the 6ga. wire, anyone have a source for shorter lengths? Every place I have looked local or online wants to sell it in rolls with way more than I need, or at, what seems to me at least stupid price per foot (granger, lowes, home depot, etc...)
  5. Skipping docks when I chose to skip with casting gear, target casting swim jigs/spinnerbaits, soft jerkbaits around heavy cover, and probably more I can't think of.
  6. I do a lot of my flipping and punching with a 7'6" H Abu Vendetta, I love that rod, and the Vendetta line in general. I replaced a 7'11" St Croix Mojo with it, and while the Mojo was a nice rod, the Vendetta, is lighter and better balanced which really helps when flipping for 8-12 hours a day which I often do.
  7. Lightning Rod Shock, Abu Garcia Vengeance. Have and use both. Great rods for the $$.
  8. With pads it all depends....on many things. That being said, I do best regardless of what weight gets through them with 3/4 or 1 oz, it seems to trigger a few more reaction bites that I don't get with something lighter.
  9. The flea market here is tops IMHO. Ebay is great for buyers, or the people selling massive amounts of stuff, for the guy just selling a couple things.....not so good. They dig the heck out of you with fee's now, and then paypal get's there part of the action too.
  10. A Trion and/or President with a Lightning Rod Shock is a very good affordable combo. I have several.
  11. Black goes with anything, and it's all I use.
  12. I used to use mine for squarebills, lipless, and smaller divers like the SK series 3, etc....no problem. I'd still have them if I didn't get bored with them and moved on.
  13. For me, my flipping stick was the only rod "man enough" to handle the big baits like a 10xd. Other than those, which I don't even bother with anymore, I use a 7'6" MH Mod. cranking specific rod. I will occasionally toss 6xd's and such on my flipping stick in the middle of summer, especially if I am ripping the bait out of a lot of grass down there, to combat the "wet noodle" effect of a cranking rod.
  14. Way to go Dwight.
  15. The smaller version of this "type" of bait I use (Havoc Pit Boss) is a fantastic shaky head, and drop shot bait. I also use it t-rigged, for pitching/flipping/punching just as I would the larger baits too.
  16. I like the KVD baits just fine. They are my go to jerk bait. I don't care if his name is on it or not. The more important name on the package is Strike King, who makes quality AFFORDABLE baits for poor people like me. With all the pike around here I would be broke feeding them $25 baits.
  17. One just opened about 45 mins away from me. I now have a Cabelas's, 2 Gander Mtns, Mulitple Dick's and a Field and Stream all less than an hour away (with a Bass pro about and hour and a half drive away, and another soon to be closer) Here is how I rank them based on my own personal tastes, I'll exclude the BPS that is a little further away because I don't go there but maybe 1-2 times a year: Bass specific Tackle (soft plastics/cranks/etc.): #1 F&S, #2 Gander, #3 Cabelas #4 Dicks Multi species tackle: #1 Cabela's , #2 Gander, #3 F&S #4 Dicks Ice fishing: #1 Cabela's, #2 Gander, #3 F&S #4 Dicks Rod/Reel Selection: #1 Cabela's, #2 F&S, #3 Gander, # 4 Dicks Marine/Boat stuff: #1 Cabela's #2 Gander, #3 F&S, # 4 Dicks General Pricing on above items: #1 F&S, #2 Dicks, #3 Cabela's, #4 Gander And for non-fishing stuff I am interested in: Firearms inventory: #1 Cabela's, #2 Gander, #3 F&S, #4 Dicks Ammo selection/inventory: #1 Cabela's, #2 Gander, #3 F&S, #4 Dicks Acc./targets/cleaning stuff/mags/etc....#1 Cabela's, #2 Gander, #3 F&S, #4 Dicks Price: #1 Cabela's, #2 F&S, #3 Dicks, #4 Gander
  18. I had the Purist............meh...unless an Aluminum frame is important to you, which IMHO in a freshwater bass sized spinning reel it is NOT to me. Then skip it. I sold it and bought more Trions, and Presidents.
  19. For those that don't know, my boss lost his right leg in a farm equipment accident the day after thanksgiving. There should be a thread on it and another on some updates a few pages back. Let me just say this................he's out of the hospital, easing back to work, and doing well...............All a mere 90 days since the accident. Un-freaking-beleivable. He's getting around pretty good too. How good.................well just today HE DROVE TO MY HOUSE and we went to lunch. All I had to do for him was get the wheel chair out of the car. He drives just fine with one leg. Gets in and out of the car on his own, and is trying to get on with life. It's a minor miracle, and he's defying medicine. Heck he even has been out shopping for new machinery for the farm lately. Everyone involved in this is amazed, and he is thriving on the " I am proving you wrong" mentality. We kind of want to pull the reins back a little on him so he doesn't hurt himself, but I think we would have better luck parting the red sea. LOL.
  20. Terrible, just terrible. Hope he pulls through. Thoughts and best wished to him, his family and friends.
  21. Broken record time...........what he and many others have said.
  22. Sounds about like most WNY water, until the algae blooms, summer boat traffic, or rain colors it up. Green pumpkins, watermelons, browns, and black have always worked well for me in clear water. With or without your choice of colored flake. I tend to lean heavily on green pumpkin, it's the swiss army knife of soft plastic colors, works, and works everywhere. Clear or dirty water. Bluegills are a big part of the forage base around here, and green pumpkin with a little purple flake in it is an all time favorite of mine.
