  1. Just curious as to who else likes these, I picked some up last season, and to my surprise loved them, so much so I ditched my spot removers, and tru tungsten "Ike heads". I have and use both the round and football head, the hook is not the most "finesse" hook, but I have no trouble getting bit with them, and they are far more durable than the other two heads I used, plus fish just DO NOT seem to come unbuttoned on these heads. The 1/4 oz. football head rigged with a 5" Green pumpkin Berkley shakey worm dragged slowly on the deep weed edge in 14 fow last fall was deadly.
  2. I love the Berkley Shakey Worm, it has been by far my best worm for this presentation. Oddly I love Roboworms for dropshoting, but have zero confidence with them on shakey head. I really don't fish much else on the shakey head any more since "discovering" the Berkley worm, it has worked for me everytime.
  3. I like them in clear water, never caught much on them in stained water. They , to me, are a finesse crankbait. As for the time of year, all year long sometimes, but they really shine in spring after ice out till post spawn. Summer time I like the DT's and wider wobble/bigger cranks better, but they start to shine again in late fall when the water temps drop into the low 50's/high 40's. There is only one type of this bait for me...........Rapala.........the only one I have used, but it works and is a great bait so I stick with it. I really like the old shad rap, in both the shallow and deep version, but lately I am keen on the new x-rap shad. Smallies in early spring last year just crushed it.
  4. I agree..........IMHO thats what makes them the best craws out there. I had to "fix" your statement about the rage craws though, I don't know why but I don't care for them, I always seem to catch more and better fish on Pacas.
  5. I lilke the Paca chunks in the summer, the bass just seem to love the way those claws flap when the water is warm. The rest of the year I use the Yum crawbug.
  6. Didn't even know this line existed, I have never seen it in stores. Went to Berkley's web site and saw it there, I am going to have to get some.
  7. I also like Green pumpkin and use it alot. In fact I only carry a few colors anymore. Watermelon/red flake, Greenpumpkin, June bug, and Black/blue flake. There are a few small exceptions, I like a bubble gum trick worm, a white super fluke, and red shad culprit worm. I really really think, based on my expierance over the last few years.................that color is the LEAST important factor. Bass see things differently in the water than we do, Size/shape/profile, and presentation make more of a difference IMHO.
  8. Thats the best advice I have seen posted here in ages. I have tried the Chigger craws, as well as the similar Yum Craw papi, and the Paca Craw blows both of them away. Neither the Yum or Berkley have "THE" flapping action the claws on the Paca Craw have.
  9. Since I started using Strike King Redeye Shads, my Rat-L-Trap collection has collected dust. I see ZERO reason to buy Rat-L-Traps anymore, the Redeye's are not that much more, catch fish better (IMHO) and already come with quality hooks. Plus I have not gotten a "dud" yet from Strike King, seems like Rat-L-Traps have more than the occasional poor product slip through Q.C.
  10. I have a few, a 3" Senko, the Yum Baby Crawbug, 4" Roboworm, Zoom tiny fluke, Gulp 3" Fry and Leech. One bait I did not like/catch alot of fish with was a Zoom Fluketail Goby, thought these would kill on Erie, but ended up catching only few on them and more on the Gulp fry". there is just something about Gulp Erie Smallies love, I am soaking ALL my dropshot baits in gulp juice this year.
  11. I am going to say Power Pro as well, but I have not always been a Power Pro guy. When I first tried it a few years back I really didn't like it. So I tried just about every braided line there is, settled on Spiderwire Ultracast and used it for the last few years. Well my flipping stick got low on braid last summer, and the local store was out of 50lb Ultracast so I got Power Pro again...........this time around I love it, and it will be the only braid I use this year.
  12. Yup I play Madden,Running play is Strong slot right, stretch right (or left/left if you flip the formation). WR's always seem to run the CB's down the field out of the play, TE blocks the OLB or DE in, back runs wide. Any better than average back on Madden can consistantly gain 5-8 yds on this play. Pass play is Shotgun, 4 wide, RB option. Left out side WR runs a short hook and is usually open, left slot reciever runs a streak route, and when you catch the defense covering him with a LB is a sure big gain, back runs an option route up the middle , he either sits in the middle of the field or breaks it to the right, depending on the coverage, this route s usually open 99% of the time with any decent RB. Right slot runs a deep post, and like the left slot, if a LB is on him it's money. Right WR runs a 15yd deep in, I typicaly put my #1 receiver on this route because I like to throw right more, and any of the better #1's can consistantly get open on this route, especialy when the saftey jumps on the right slot guy running the deep post.
  13. I just got the 3 Mojo's I orderd as my own "Xmas gift" today. These are the ones I bought: MB70MHM "Crankbait" MB70HF "Slop -n-Frog" MB66MF "Topwater and Jerkbait" They seem to be just a weeeeeeeeeee bit lighter than there Premier counterparts, fit and finish is outstanding not 1 blemish on them. I have the 7' Heavy Fast in the Premier, Avid, and Legend Tournament, and the Mojo has a distenct feel all it's own, due to the split grip. (My LT is the older full grip). Don't know if I am a huge fan of the split grip/no fore grip yet. Time will tell, I currently, besides these 3 only have one split grip rod, a 7'6" MH XF Shimano Crucial, but don't notice the split grip helping and/or hurting performance so it's a wash for me. I'll let you know more when I fish them................which won't be for a while. Ice usually melts late March
  14. I own both, HMG gets the nod for me, I even chose the HMX over the Compre.
  15. I have not owned/used any carrots, but insert Magnesium TS into the above quote and you'll get my feeling on those, not to mention that fact that Kistler used crap reel seats and cork. Yes..........NOW.......they use fuji seats, but whats the point, they burned there bridge with me. $180 rod and I can get better reels seats and guides on a $30 Berkley Lightning Rod.
  16. TW site has now been working for me for a few days again.
  17. I use it, and love it. I had ZERO issues with knot strentgh, I use the Trilene knot for every thing and lube it up good. I only use the palomar on my drop shot rig, and had no issues with that either. I use 6lb on my drop shot rod, and put it in Zebra mussle infested water in Lake Erie, and the Western Finger Lakes, many 4lb +, quite a few 5's, and 6lb Smallies on this line, and not 1 break off. I use 8lb on my other spinning rods, and have no trouble with it either, I like it for skipping docks in clear water, it is extreamly abbrasion resistant, and nothing tests that more than a 5lb bass sawing it back and forth on a dock post. It is as strong, if not more than it's rated, in a few applications I am dropping down 1 size. Last year I used 12lb on my jerkbait rod, I will use 10 this year, and 17lb on my jig rod, but will go to 15.
  18. About the only thing Pfluegers have in commen with Abu Garcia's is that they are reels.........no knock on either, but both brands are different in many ways. The Revo was designed, planed, tested, and introduced before Pure Fishing aquired Pflueger. Now as far as how Pfluger BC reels compair to other, I have had 2 Pfluegers and hated them both. One was a Purist, at $80 is no bargin. With it's graphite frame, and liberal use of plastic it's durability was crap. Mine lasted less than 6 months. The other reel I had was a Trion LP, now the reel was smooth and well built, BUT I use LH BC reels, and the Trion only comes in the wide spool version for LH, it just felt bulky, heavy, and hard to palm for a LP. Heck I have big hands, and can palm and use an Abu 4601 C3 with ease. Now if you use RH reels, they make the narrow version, so, take what I said for what it's worth. I don't own many "high" end reels, most of my stuff is middle of the road, I have Revo's (S,SX,and STX,) C3's (5601, and 4601) Quantum Accurist's (PT's, and CX's) Daiwa Advantage's, Excellers, and Procasters, and a Shimano Citica 201D, and Curado 101D, and the Trion was as nice as most any of them. Spinning reels are a different story, I am almost an exclusive Pflueger man when it comes to those, but you didn't ask about them.
  19. No offense envi3d.................but thats about the worst advice I have ever seen posted here. Tom S. a Revo S is a great reel, but don't buy it from BPS, they are $30 MORE there than any where else. And as for rods, forget the Ugly Stick, unless you want a rod with ZERO sensitivity or back bone. They are good kids, panfish, or catfish rods, but not bass rods. Seems how your gift cards are from BPS I would look at putting most of that towards a good rod, they have the St Croix Mojo Bass rods for $90-$120, get your self some line, and with shipping your gift card will be gone. Then save some $$ and go to Reed's Sporting goods and geta Revo S for $99 w/free shipping.
  20. for those wanting a Revo S BPS= $129.99 + SHIPPING *** =$101+ FREE shipping Reeds=$99+ FREE shipping SFT= $99+ FREE shipping $30 more at BPS plus shipping............happy new year.
  21. I couldn't get on Xmas, was able to on friday, but so far today and all of yesterday I have not been able too. Has to be an issue on there end. I can get on EVERY where else. I got $$ burning a hole in my pocket too, so if hey don't get it fixed by monday I am going to go to SFT who also has free shipping.
  22. Simmons on e-bay has NIB Quantum Accurist PT's for $64.99 + shipping, those reels are well worth it, they were around $125-$130 a year ago. They are on sale because Quantum replaced them for 2009 with a new reel. Or Cabelas has there Prodigy reel on sale for $79, normaly $99. It is made by Daiwa and is built on the same platform as the TD-A, and the Tierra. IMHO it is a better buy than both. A Revo S is also a great choice, but I rarely see them in your price range, usually NIB ones go at least $90 and up, but you could get lucky and find one I am sure. And lastly keep your eyes peeled for a Shimano Citica 200D (or 201D if your a lefty) I have seen NIB ones go for as low as $75. I own all 4, and like them all.
  23. I have 2 setups that I use with jerkbaits, 1 casting, 1 spinning. My Casting setup is a St Croix Legend Tournament 6'6" M/F "Jerkbait" rod, paired with an Abu Garcia Revo STX-L, spooled with 10lb Trilene 100% fluorocarbon. I use this combo with #10 X-rap's , Husky Jerks, and other baits this size and larger. My spinning combo is a St Croix Avid 6'6" M/F w/ a Pflueger Supreme 8035 and Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon in 8lb test. I use this with #8 X-raps, husky jerks, and weightless soft plastic jerkbaits like Zoom super flukes.
  24. I live in the Buffalo NY area, our "good winter weather" is a day when it snows less than 6" and the wind chill stays above zero.
  25. Both reels have some plastic in them. As far as which has better components, it's a toss up. The Zillion is smooth, but the Revo is very smooth as well. The thing about the brakes popping out - I've yet to experience that. As far as the Mag-Z brake goes, I'm not liking it all that much. It seems unpredictable compared to, say, the Revo STX's mag brake. After using my Fuegos that have the Mag-Z brake, I'm gonna say that's the weak point. It seems to kick in hardest at the middle of the cast when I need it least. I'd skip the Revo SR and just buy a Revo STX. I find just the opposite to be true for me. The Daiwa magforce -z brake is the mag brake which other should strive to be. While I don't have a Zillion, I have several TD-Advantages which use the same brake, so I am only commenting on the brake aspect. I also have several Revo S's, which use the same brake as the Skeet Reese Revo, and an SX and STX whixh use Abu's mag brake. I would take Daiwa's Magforce Z ANYDAY of the week over Abu's mag. brake, and between the Centrifical Revo S (or skeet reese in this case) I would take the Magforce Z as well. I do not dislike Abu's c-brake system, just like the Daiwa better. And if you really want to know, Shimano VBS is the best of them all,c-brake/mag-brake or what ever.
