  1. I like spooky shad in clear water where I can see the bottom in 10-12' feet or more, in slightly stained it's a coin toss. I have caught them on bluegill, black/gold,and clear chart. I take the featherd hook off the back too. It's probably all in my head, but I seem to catch more without it.
  2. Thats what I was thinking, are you pretty much paying for a name? I've had great success with Pop-R's. Clancy W I can't tell you anything about Yellow Magic, never owned one, and probably won't. Sammy's are worth it. Personally I fish more Spro Dawgs than Sammys, not because they are better, but because they are 1/2 the price, and when pike are liking topwater, not so hard on the wallet.
  3. DING DING DING................we have a winner, this is the oldest thread I have seen resurrected yet. And a Senko thread to boot, OP date: 12/26/04...........my 6 year old daughter wasn't even born yet. : :
  4. I want to try it for cranking, where have you seen it for sale yet? Last time I looked on TW they didn't have it. Edit: N/M. I see it on there now................$36 for 300yds......I didn't see any 125/150 yd spools.
  5. If you are going to be casting and/or dragging your dropshot rig go with the finesse weights, if your going to fish the rig in a more vertical manner, get the round.
  6. Well...... poppers and walk the dog baits both have there time and place, so get both. If you can't afford to buy two expensive baits like that, get a Spro Dawg 100, and an X-caliber Zell pop, both are great, or if you want to get multiple baits on a tight budget, good old Super Spooks and Pop-R's still catch fish just fine.
  7. ROTFLMAO......... ;D ;D
  8. 34
  9. I use LH reels for everything.
  10. You can drop shot anything...........and I have. But unless I am "bubba shotting", I tend to stickto more finesse type plastics. My rotation of baits is: Zoom tiny fluke, zoom finesse worms, 4" and 6" roboworms, 3" and 4" senkos, assorted smaller gulp stuff, GYCB shad shape worms, and probably a few other things I can't think of right now.
  11. 6.something :1 works fine for me, I like to got with a rod that LESS than 7', Medium or Medium Heavy power (depending on rod brand M St Croix, MH Kister or Fenwick) fast action.
  12. I like 20lb Braid for almost all my cranking, cast further, gets deep divers deeper, and you can feel everything. It's a must IMHO when ripping baits from grass. I don't have any trouble with fish coming unbuttoned on braid, I use a rod with a moderate action, premium hooks, and don't keep the drag locked down tight.
  13. Braid: Power Pro, or Spiderwire stealth. Flurocarbon: Trilene 100% or Vanish..............yes Vanish, I have ZERO problems with it. Mono: Trilene Sensation, XL, or Big Game, never used XT much.
  14. Shimano Curado's and Citica's........E's, D's, B's dosen't matter. Next would be Abu Revo's, I like the S better than the mag break SX's and STX's. I don't have a dual break STX.................yet, but it's on my list.
  15. Beer battered and deep fried bluegills................and then I'll drink the beer I made the batter with, probably Coors light.
  16. I don't know if this is a recommended practice, but I have had some reels where I could get one set the way i want but the other, same reel, just won't. I could cast as far with both, both were working smooth, but one would just have that little bit of annoying backlash problem that if you weren't on it with your thumb like a machine you couldn't avoid. Come to find out the reel giving me trouble was TOO free, yes that can be a problem.............for me at least. And any brake adjusting or cast control tightening reduced casting distance for me. What I did to combat this and it seemed to work was put a few extra drops of oil in the spool bearings, the oil kept the reel smooth and free, but the extra oil slowed things down just enough by creating a little bit of drag in the bearing. Just don't over do it, you don't want to be collecting dirt/grime in the bearing with an excessive amount of oil. I would notice after a few days of use that reel would really loosen up again, and I combated this with the oil again.
  17. The above mentioned Daiwa has a twitching bar, not a flipping switch. If you want a reel with a flipping switch skip that POS Black Max, and go to ebay and get the previous generation Quantum Accurist PT. They can be had NIB all from many differat sellers for arounf $50 and are 10 times the reel that the Abu max's are. They sold new 2-3 years ago for $130, I have several that are any where from 3-5 years old and still work like new. For pure flipping you cant beat it, all it needs to do is hold line, lock the drag down tight and it's a tank.
  18. thats got to be a misprinted lable, I would bet the rods are the same.
  19. Clunn did have a crank with Luck-e-strike a few years ago, sold through BPS,nothing special at all. While I respect Clunn for his past acomplisments, things in this day and age with his name on it are not going to be "hot" items. Like it or not, thats the way it is. The LC RC crankbaits sell well because of the Lucky Craft name on them, not Clunns. What gets me, is I would bet anything that a bait/rod/whatever with Mark Zona's name on it would sell better, and all he's known for is beeing a clown.
  20. I also like Daiwa spinning reels over Shimano. Casting reels are the other way Shimano (and Abu) over Daiwa.
  21. what does it flat out suck for? No doubt I would use fluoro over braid in certain situations, but I have yet to find a set up that braid "sucks" at. Freezing air tempsAgree Concrete and or steel structureDisagree, I skip docks with braid..........no problems, check my line and re-tie often. Many big fish out from under some nasty steel everywhich way docks with out a problem Zebra/quagga musselsAgree, and add rocks in there as well Coontail on certain lakes - has zebes growing on it disagree same as docks, for some reason I haven't had too much trouble with braid and zebes on cover like wood/weeds, but those same mussles on rock............not good Deep smallie fishing. You simply get more bites on fluoro. 100% agree Pretty much any treble hooked bait.Disagree, In fact I couldn't disagree more on this one. It's more about the rod for me than the line. In certain situations braid is BETTER for treble hooked baits. That's all IMHO of coarse. One thing I have learned about braid and line in general is you could ask 10 guys what they like, and why and get 10 different answers, and reasons why they like what they like. And for the most parts, most of them are valid sound reasons. And I also learned you really don't change peoples minds on the what and why too often.
  22. What do you have now?
  23. Exactly.............before I got stick jackets, I could fit 6-8 rods in my small rod locker on my Bass Tracker, now I can fit 12 or more in there, it's tight but they fit and they glide right in and out.
  24. Iv'e had several quantums older models mid 90s and have had problems trying to have repaired, no longer parts available I don't think it's really fair to base your opinion on a company on reels that were made 15 years ago. Just sayin. I swore Shimano off in the pre-green curado days, came back to them when they introduced the D series Citica/Curado. Glad I did. Not many people liked the D reels , but I love them.
