  1. I replace them all eventually. I use the Mustad KVD's for pretty much everything. I'll fish with the stock hooks on most Rapalas, Bandits, Spro, Norman, some SK (RES, and 6xd's that come with black nickle hooks, and KVD sb's) and Excailibers. Those baits will get there hooks changed out after the dull/bend/break etc.... Baits that get there hooks changed right out of the box are, sure set Rapalas, Storm Wiggle Warts, any thing else from SK, any thing by Manns, Heddon, or Bomber.
  2. That about sums it up.
  3. X-raps, and husky jerks.
  4. I Snatched one out of the water and he got and the other one swam with my bait I set the hook and it wasn't there. Ok I'm thinking get 7'6" Heavy Fast Vendetta ($50) and put it on my Shimano Citica 100D because it is a free spool reel. Then spend money on 1/2 oz - 1 1/2 oz tungsten weights and paycheck baits hooks and some punch skirts an baits... Oh and 65 pound braid. Is this all I need?? And BTW thanks for all the feedback!! Something tells me the rod is not your problem........but just what could it be, hmmmmmmmm :-X :
  5. My wife can fish with me anytime she wants. She doesn't like the seriousness of it though. She knows I don't go out there and drown bait for 8 hours while chugging beer, or floating around getting a tan, so she doesn't go with me too much.
  6. if you were smart you would have dusted it right when I put it up, I have been so busy I probably would have forgot all about it lol Its all good, LOL. Bonus advertising for you. Besides, they don't know my spots. (Quiet ww2, they're actually Noel's spots, and I'm sworn to secrecy ) Yeah but I'm not ................ok when you get out on the big lake take a left...... or was that a right? Either way you guys are sure to find it, if you get to Detroit, or the falls you've gone too far ;D ;D
  7. Drop shot a wacky rigged 3" senko, or zoom tiny fluke. Yes you can drop shot in shallow water. Or burn a small crank bait or a swim jig.
  8. Erie rocks minnow LOL :-X ;D
  9. I was going to extend an invitation to you, being a WNYer and all to fish with me this season, that is until you gave away one of "THE" colors...................now your my mortal enemy. ;D
  10. I use 2, a 7' ML, fast action St Croix Avid w/ Daiwa Exceler spooled up with 6lb Trilene 100% fluorocarbon, and a 6'8" M, X-fast St Croix Mojo w/Daiwa Exceler spooled with 10lb Powerpro, I either tie the braid directly to my bait if the water is not super clear, or I use an 8lb fluoro. leader if it is. The 7' Avid is almost exclusivly used for drop shotting, the 6'8" is more of a "GP" set up..........shaky heads, tubes, finesse jigs, flick shake, and various other things.
  11. Strike King tour grade, both round and football. I hate jig heads with the screw lock bait keeper.
  12. I have seen beds on the same lake, on the same day, within a 100 yard radius, where they will be on the bank, all the way out to 12'-13', and at various depths in-between.
  13. I don't care if I offend you...if you have bad breath I will tell you, if your offended, that's your problem. Actually, offending people is one of the things I do well.
  14. God I love fishing.
  15. From time to time the older green Shimano Curado B38's come up for sale. They have a 3.8:1 ratio, hence the B38 name.
  16. No........I have a life, and am not ***.
  17. It won't effect me at all as far the ammount of time I fish, maybe I'll cut 1 or 2 tournaments out, or make a few less trips to further away lakes and stay close to home on those days insted. I drive a 10 year old small, paid for SUV w/6 cyl that's good on gas. I tow an aluminum boat w/25 hp 4 stroke on it. My home lake is 15 mins away, the other lake I fish is 30 mins away. And I will still make the hour or so trip to the third lake I fish as often as I used to. I fish 120-130 days, including 10 or so tournaments, in the April-November time frame, and the last time gas was $4+ a gal (2008) I didn't use but $325 worth of gas the entire season. Granted 2 of the 3 lakes I fish are less than 5 miles long, and the other is less than 15.
  18. This "lightest weight you can get away with" is total nonsense in deep water vertical drop shotting, put than sinker on the bottom and keep it there. 30+ FOW? 1/2 oz MINIMUM IMHO, 70 FOW?? IDK, I have never fished that deep, but if I was a 1oz sinker would be my choice.
  19. They both come through cover well, the square bill has the tendency to "stick" and give more of a pronounced deflection when it climbs over an obstacle. The coffin bill kind of subtle deflects it way through,at least that's my experience with them. Some guys I know like coffin bills on tight wiggling baits and use them in cold water in place of a fatter wider wobbling square bill.
  20. My wife has a good job, cooks my food, takes care of the kids, and lets me get " friendly" with her.........I could care less if she buys me fishing stuff.
  21. I am no Abu homer, but how is it Abu's fault that you didn't check the reel over before you bought it. They are not in the business of giving parts away either. I would have returned the combo to Dicks and explained the situation there, rather than moan about how Abu wanted to charge you for a missing part : How dare they!!!!!!!!!
  22. I do mobile AC work in the summer on cars, light and heavy duty trucks, and farm equipment. 10+ years.
  23. Nonsense. In every tournament around here at least 1/2 the field is throwing a wacky rigged Senko. all day, every day, no matter what. There couldn't be a more over used lure/presentation. Yet it still works.
  24. Thanks guys............I am going 24 volt, I can fit two group 24's in the back where the lone group 27 TM battery was. I have been told by many that even though the batterys are smaller, I'll still get more run time out of them by going 24v and variable speedm than I did with any size battery with any size 12v motor. Seems as how I used to get 8+ hours on mine on non windy days, and 5-7 hours on windy days with my old set up, the new one should suit me just fine. Got the new batteries and trays ordered today, and the TM will be ASAP.
  25. I'll be out there tomorrow, could be the last time. Got to get my farm machinery ready to roll for spring time in the next few weeks, and do some work on the boat to get it ready for open water. Ice should still be fine for at least the next week to 10 days, but this time of year it can change fast. First time I have to jump across open water to get on the ice will be the last. It was a good ice season, but, like every year, am ready for it to be over.
