  1. I have a buddy that tows a 20' boat, 225 OB, with a Dodge Dakota with a V6, he drives like a maniac and it stops the boat fine. Not saying thats the way to do it, just giving you an example.
  2. Got to love the innocent and pure intentions of a good kid. God bless him.
  3. May I also add, don't stand behind a cow when it coughs. You will get "hit" by something.
  4. Nice work, I like the craw KVD.
  5. If you go with a St Croix, get a M powered rod. There MH spinning rods are broom sticks. The 6'8" M/XF rods they offer reguardless of price range (mojo, rage, avid..) are great all purpose spinnng rods.
  6. Only in Arkansas LOL.
  7. Hershal Walker part 2 ???? IF any other team did it I wouldn't think twice, but the Redskins under Snyder's ownership have shown the abiity to turn gold into poop just by looking at it.
  8. A shop vac hose.....don't PO your wife while she has the shop vac LMAO
  9. If your talking 20lb braid, you'll be fine, 20lb mono or fluoro......unless your squarbilling or wakeing a crank in heavy shallow cover that would be a terrible all purpose line choice. If you want mono or fluoro like others said stay with 10-12lb size line. I agree on the 7' M BPS cranking stick, I had one and regret not having it any more, it was a great rod for most cranking situations. As for your 6' M rod, find a Gander Mtn that has the $79 Citica's on sale, load it up with 12-14lb mono/fluoro OR 20-30lb braid.
  10. Trilene 100% is good line, it's what I used for main line when Iused fluoro as a main line, but it was terrible on spinning gear. I still use it as leader material. I actually liked Vanish better on spinning reels. I know most people hate it, but I never had any problem with it.
  11. If I could take just 3 or mine they would be: St Croix 6'8" M/XF Mojo spinning rod with Shimano Sedona 2500, 10lb braid/with an 8lb fluoro leader St Croix 7' M/F Legend Tournament with Shimano Curado 51E, 20lb braid St Croix 7' MH/F Legend Tournament with Shimano Curado 51E,30lb braid The spinning rod could handle drop shotting, flick shaking, shaky heads, other misc small stuff, the M power casting rod could do all treble hooked lures, not the best for deep divers but I have used it and works fine, plus light cover work with smaller jigs and t-rigs. The 7' MH could be used for pitching, not an ideal flipping rod but it would do ok, c-rigs, frogs, spinnerbaits, jigs/t-rigs.Yeah I could live with those three.
  12. Just to add, before I bought my Curado 201DPV, I deep cranked with my Citica 201D, which is a 6.2:1 reel, with Shimano's HEG it pulled big deep divers like SK 6xd's pretty easy, not as easy as the CU201DPV, but it didn't feel like I was dragging a dead body through the water, I can not say that about any 6.x:1 reels I have had in any other brand.
  13. I Like to use #4 Willows for just about every thing, they turn at slow speed for deep slow rolling, and they offer little resistance for burning. I like smooth finish gold blade most of the time, and I will use a painted blade often as well. I like double willow, tandem colorado/willow, or single colorado blade combinations, DW for deep or burning, tandem for shallow cover work, and single colorado for dirty water or night. I use basicly 3 skirt colors, chart/white and a dark color like SK's bluegill, and chart/brown. I never use a trailer, I have caught way more fish without it and thats what I am confident in soo......I do use a trailer hook almost all the time. As for weights, I use 1/4 oz for super shallow stuff, 3/8 is general all purpose size, 1/2 oz for burning (most of the time) and 1 oz for deep slow rolling.
  14. Time and place......I have found bass to be pickier about spinnerbaits than just about any other lure. IDK why either, because pike crush them year round. Infact I don't use them as much as I used because of the pike.My spinner bait success also tailed off over the years as our water got clearer, to the point I gave up for a while. I have adapted, and use them again, but rarely without my own modifications.
  15. I am sure both baits will work fine if I do my part. Thats probably part of the problem.....me. This is one technique I am terrible with. I have caught fishon long pauses with suspending baits, but I have never had any really great days with it, I lose patience and confidence in it easy, and I'll reach for the lipless crank, or jig, or something else that I have caught more fish on. I need to go out with some one whom this is there bread and butter early season technique, and learn a thing or two.
  16. Yes...I forgot to mention that. The Mag TS's I had were different rods. One had Fuji guides/reel seat and a light green blank, the other had mystery guides and reels seats and a grayish blank.
  17. I use bubble gum colored plastics for the very same reason. Also one mistake I used to make bed fishing, was using too little weight, like using an 1/8 oz shakey head or other light stuff, when I switched to a 3/8 oz + head, I found I could keep it in the "spot" better, and that seemed to get more bites.
  18. I hear you on the LC Pointers, but for the ammount of $5-$10 baits I loose to tootheys, I might just need to be put in a home if I started losing $15+ ones. Not even going to consider MB.....for the same reason. The McStick has been on my radar....and I should have got a few, I just forgot. I actually used to like Rapala Husky Jerks as my cold water bait, but they just don't cast as good as all these modern baits with there weight transfer systems, nor do they have the translucent color patterns that guys I know who do fish a lot of jerkbaits in cold clear water do so well on.
  19. I don't know how you guys can live in "fear" of your wives finding out what you buy? If I need something I buy it. My wife knows baits/line/tackle need to be restocked. She thinks I don't need as much as I have, and she's right. I have been given the business a few times when a TW order shows up, but I don't hide them. Besides I like it when she's mad
  20. I'll add this, if you do get a baitcasting reel, spend a little money and get a good one. The cheap ones will do nothing but cause you headaches. With Spinning reels, you'll be fine with most moderately priced options. Also don't assume the reel has every thing to do with casting. The wrong rod can make things tuff too. I have friends that are not into fishing, but want a decent set up for when they do go, I usually recomend a 6'6" M power, fast action spinning rod, a 2500 size spinning reel, and 20 lb braided line. That way, as a beginer you wont have to deal with line twist,or any other line managment issues that pop up with spinning gear and mono/fluoro. 20lb braid is the diameter as 6lb mono, so it handles wonderfull on spinning gear.
  21. With St Croix's warrenty, if the rod fail because of them, you pay nothing, except shipping. If you step on it, shut it in the car door, high stick a fish, basicly if it's your fault etc.....it will cost you $50 (and shipping). Thats a pretty good "limited" warrenty to me. It's called the Gold Star service plan, and cost's nothing extra. I have used it a time or two, and it was hassel free. I have no idea what the Duckett warranty is, and don't plan to ever find out, those rods don't impress me.
  22. I have two daughters, age 7 and 2......if they are anything like there mother and I were at 16 (we have been together since then), I will have my hands full.
  23. Mainly there customer service. I had a Mag TS that had epoxy in one of the guides, and basicly was told to live with it, or pay to have it shipped both ways, plus the cost of labor to fix.......the guide would have been free..........geeze thanks fellas. I also had an Argon crankbait rod break, and because they were out of production, and at the time there was no compareable rod in there line up I was SOL on a replacment, even though I bought it new a short time before it broke. Rods break, but for them to not have a suitable replacement for me was/is absurd. They offered a 7'8" Mag TS flipping stick, to me with free shipping and 25% off list price. I don't see how replacing a 7'9" MH crankbait rod with a H powered flipping stick is acceptable, so I declined their "fair" offer. And just the overall quality of the rods...they are not worth $150+, they were no where near the rods St Croix Avids are. Which I have also broke, but for shipping and $50..............NO MATTER WHAT.....you get a new rod, and if it's there fault it broke, you pay nothing but shipping. I ended up getting rid of all of the Kistlers I had, after that. What good would it do me to be worrying about them breaking, or if they did, how would they deal with me. With St Croix there have been no worries. Sucks too, cause NOW they offer a 7'9 telescopic cranking rod again, but they won't get anymore business from me. I will just have to live with the fact my 7'10" St croix cranker and 7'11 flipping rod are not telescopic and ride on my boat deck year round. There are worse problems to have...............like owning more Kistlers.
  24. Insert a tube jig head into a 3.5" green tube, greenpumpkin, watermelon etc...they all work. Cast out, then let the wind drift your boat over the area you want to fish while dragging the tube on the bottom. Wake up when you feel the thump.
  25. There are better rods out there for less money. I either broke, or had an issue with every kistler I owned, and I would think long and hard about owning one again.
