  1. I cringe every time I hear the word Producto. Any one local around here knows why.
  2. I caught a decent ammount of smallies deep cranking last year, I mostly use SK 5xd's, and 6xd's.............all the smallmouth came on the 5xd.
  3. Motor guide makes a clamp on 40lb thrust 12V cable steer, foot controlled motor called the bulldog. I always thought it would be slick to put on my little bass raider, especialy now that I have a bigger boat with a foot controlled TM, and thats what I am used to.
  4. Same year as mine 2006, Merc 4 stroke. Sounds like the same problems I had last year. Have you drained the float bowl's on your carb(s)?? Also the startron is good for preventing fuel problems.............cure them, it will not. Once you have problems, your better off using a dose of seafoam mixed with the startron, and then just the startron after you get it "cured". I did every thing you described too, changed plugs, fuel filter, changed all the rubber fuel lines, drained the old gas and replaced with new. But it wasn't untill I drained the float bowl, and ran about 1/4 tank of the seafoam startron mix through it that it cleared up. Don't skimp on the seafoam either, use the whole bottle, and then after you run that tank through, change the fuel filter again.
  5. I only curse the toothy's when they steal lures. I enjoy every fish that I catch of any species.
  6. The open water season started very early with the mild winter we had up here. It started great, mid to late March I was doing things, and fishing areas I usually fish in late April. Catching was not a problem, I had several big fish, and a couple of pretty good days. Then April came, the nice weather went, and so did the good fishing....for me. I struggled for the better part of 2-3 weeks. Between one cold frosty night, followed by cloudless, high barometric pressure days, dropping water temps, or being busy ar work when the small windows of decent fishing were, it was one of the most frustrating April's I can remember. The last week of April things started picking up, and this past week has been decent. New things? Not really, but I have made a strong effort to gain some confidence in jerkbaits in cold water this spring, and so far so good. Had a few good outings for multiple species in mid to high 40 degree water.
  7. Power pro, 10, 15, and 20 lb on spinning gear, with 6,8, or 10 lb fluorocarbon leaders as needed Power pro 20, 30, and 50 lb on casting gear with 10,12,15, or 20 lb fluorocarbon leaders as needed
  8. Nothing can replace time on the water. I can tell someone till I am blue in the face how I do this or that, or where/when/why.... but untill you put a rod and reel in your hand, and spend time learning on the body of water you want to fish, everything else is just window dressing.
  9. Strike King Bitsy flip, or Hack Attack's with either the KVD Jr., or Sr. chunk
  10. Dispite breaking a rod, and nearly cutting the top of my finger off with the siccsors, my buddy and I had a pretty good day. We decided to travel, get away from the "home lake" which has been slow. Good move. We didn't light it on fire, but did decent. Nice mix of brown and green, with semi decent size, and we caught numbers too.
  11. From handling them in the store, they seem like nice rods for the $$, I would buy one.
  12. I fish in pike infested water year round, I don't buy high $$ hard baits for that reason, at least not more than $12-$15, and most of mine are $6-$10 lures. I lose a few, just part of the game. I would rather lose $50-$100 worth of baits a year, than have my catch rates go down. If it got to be where I was losing the tackle box every trip, well then i would have to do something about it. Just this spring alone, I have probably caught between 30 and 50 pike already and lost one bait, and I fish straight braid most of the time, which is about the worst for pike, a fluorocarbon leader helps too, and it's not to offensive to the bass, nor does it affect the lures action.
  13. I use tungsten bullet weights, because I am usually C-rigging areas with a mix of grass and rock. Any thing else hangs up to much, and it also simplyfies the ammount of different sinkers I need to carry in the boat.
  14. Skipping baits under docks or other overhead cover.
  15. Could be a few things, first, drain the float bowl on your carb. and then take your plug(s) out an clean them or put new plugs in, the fogging oil has a tendency to foul them pretty good. If you have a fuel filter, change it. Sounds like the same exact problem I had 2 years ago right out of storage, in addition to those things I mentioned, I ended up draining all the old gas out, even though it was treated with sta-bil, and running some fresh gas with star-tron/seafom mix through it, cleared it right up. This year I didn't use stabil, I used the startron/seafoam mix.......no trouble out of storage.
  16. You can skip with casting gear, I do it all the time. Just don't think your going to do it like you would with spinning gear. I can skip a jig or a t-rigged plastic under a dock with a 7'11" H power flipping stick with 50 lb braid, it's more of a "pitch skip" than a side arm skip like you would skip a senko on a spinning rod. Frogs skip pretty good on casting gear too.
  17. I use braid as main line on all my reels, with fluorocarbon leaders as needed. I have few complaints, one I do have that I don't see mentioned, and it might help your decision one way or the other, is the "bow" wind blows in braid. It drives me nuts at times, but I live with it for all the reasons I like braid. If I know I am going to be fishing in stiff wind all the time, it might sway me back to using fluoro. If $$ and space in my boat were not an issue, I would have a few extra combos spooled up with fluoro just for that reason as well.
  18. I have enough trouble getting jigs with one hook back in the places I put them, let alone two. Pass.
  19. I have held them in the store, and I agree, they feel and seem pretty nice for a $50 rod.
  20. Yes, they are more powerfull than other brands M rods. I own St Croix's from the Mojo, Avid, and Legend Tournament lines, IMHO they all are over powered, BUT IMHO the Avids seem more so than the others, the SCIII graphite is very stiff in fast and extra fast actions. The Mojo's and LTB's seem to be a little ..............just a little, softer. That 6'8" M/XF LTB seems like a good choice for what you want to do.
  21. Strike King 3x chunks. Usually I could care less about durability, if it catchs fish I am happy. But the Strike King and Z-man elaztech stuff does both.
  22. Fine, thanks for asking. Got nothing but wet, and actually laughed about it.
  23. Same..................I think.
  24. You can pretty much do all of your bass fishing with those two rods, throw in there 6'8" M/XF spinning rod in any of there lines, and that's a 3 rod arsenal that can do it all. IMHO the only 2 things in bass fishing that "need" dedicated rods are deep cranking, and punching heavy grass mats.
  25. Alberto for me as well, that knot has yet to fail me. The flourocarbon leader breaks first.
