  1. This is just the way I do it..............texas rig in and around grass and wood, just comes through it better. Shaky head around rock, under docks, and on the edges of deep grass lines etc...works for me.
  2. I have several that I bought last season, no issues. Look good, work fine, nice $100 rods.... Ever better at $80.
  3. VMC is the best bang for the buck in hooks right now IMHO. I am also not a fan of Owners (or Trokars either) and will go with Mustad, VMC, or Gamakatsu over them.
  4. No different equipment in general for me. But I tend to use my spinning rods more.
  5. Depends on where they are. But the whole tackle box is in play this time of year. From deep cranking.... To topwater on the banks.
  6. I used them on a wacky jig head, or dropshot rig. FWIW.... IMHO, they are expensive and semi fragile. They make gycb senkos seem cheap and durable lol. I have just as good, if not better results on a Zoom finesse/trick worm, and a real sleeper bait wacky rigged and what replaced the flick shake worms for me, is the Zoom swamp crawler.
  7. To get started.....#2 VMC spinshot hooks for nose hooking and a 3/8 oz pencil style weight. A 6'6" to 7' ML power, F or XF action spinning rod. 2000/2500 size spinning reel. 10lb braid mainline, 6 or 8lb flourocarbon leader.
  8. Allright....I never call that part the "inner race", but I know what your talking about, and yes I HAVE seen that part stuck to the spindle many many times. I just cut it off with the torch too, you have to be uber careful not to cut into the spindle.
  9. Are you sure it's the "race" and not the what's left of the bearing? Being on a farm for 30 years I have seen some god awful wheel bearing disasters, and plenty of them too, and I have never seen a race stuck to a spindle.
  10. IMHO, the Abu and Berkley rods are better built, and they have decent performance. I like Shimano rods just fine, but I have not been impressed with the Sellus. I have handled a lot of rods in stores over the last 25 years and I struggle to remember one with more obvious guide alignment issues than the Sellus. I never bought one because of this. I do however have plenty of experience with the next rod up, the Convergence. Those are great rods for $60. But for $50 get the Abu or Berkley or hand pick a Sellus to make sure it's straight.
  11. I fished that rod for many years. It's a very versatile stick. I had the older first generation, full grip version. About the only things that I didn't, at one time or another, do with it was punch mats or deep crank. I once threw frogs with it in sparse cover and it worked great, even though it's a M power, it's a St Croix, so it's pretty stout for a medium.
  12. Original scent megastrike. Idk why..... Just because.
  13. Very store to store dependant around here. Some are good, some are okay, some are terrible. None are great.
  14. 1/2 oz is my "baseline " for jigs, and I will work up or down from there as conditions dictate.
  15. After reading this thread, the problem is not the baits... It's you. Sorry to break the news to you so harsh, but hopefully your adult enough to understand what I mean with out getting bent about it.
  16. I have always liked tham and caught lots of fish on them. BUT..........they don't/didn't catch any more for me than a Zoom finesse or trick worm. And you get more worms , for less money with Zoom, so that's what I use now. Roboworm has lots of pretty colors though.....I know that's important to the sheep...........err I mean people here LOL.
  17. A-rig....I have caught a few fish on them, mostly smallmouth and pike. I just hate throwing the thing long enough to give it a fair shake. Anything Gulp other than there small 3" leech and minnow baits for dropshotting.
  18. I use my 7'3" MH Vendetta for pitching, it has a little more "spring" to the tip, and I use a 7' MH Veritas for frogging, it's a little bit stouter. If I had to chose one of them to do both it would be the 7'3" MH Vendetta. I held both the 7'3" MH Vendetta's and Veritas's in my hands before I pulled the trigger, the Veritas is/was too stiff for my tastes in that power/length.
  19. I am assuming to clear out as much of the current stock before releasing a new generation. There was a Facebook picture floating around of the deck of Ike's boat at the classic. Several unlabled, unkown white rods were on the deck....could be the new Veritas in pre-production from. I paid the full $99 price for all mine, I wish I would have waited LOL.
  20. 21 years ago in my jr. year of high school. We are both from small rural towns about 7 miles apart. She was dating one of my buddies, and he didn't have a working car at the time. I drove him over to see her. Well he treated her like crap, and she started to cry, I kicked him out of the car, drove her home. I made him call the next day to apologize to her , and she wanted to talk to me instead.....we have been together ever since. Engaged in 1995, married in 2001, kids in 05' and 09', and will be together untill she buries me.
  21. Well since you like Abu, take a look at the 6'9" ML Vendetta and/or Veritas. I have the Vendetta and it's paired with an Orra S20 spnning reel and I like it a bunch. Falls below your $250 budget, so you have some $$ left for gear.
  22. WNY still in lock down, and will be for several weeks yet. I am going ice fishing tomorrow, then I leave for Florida for 2 weeks, and expect to ice fish when I get back. I am hoping for an April 20th first day on the water.
