  1. I use both the 1/4 oz. XR25 Xcalibur, and the 1/4 Strike King Red Eye Shad. Both are great baits. If you want to go smaller, Rat-L-Traps come in a tiny 1/8th oz version.
  2. Another vote for TW. I am also a fan of the Strike King XD's. I throw the 5xd most of the time when I am deep cranking because the deep grass lines in my home lake are 10-13 feet deep and this bait gets the job done there. I'll use the 6xd when I need a big bite, or when I am trying to hit isolated cover out in the 15' or so range past the weed lines. I have a few 10xd's but have yet to use them much. Stained water for me (usually green stain from alge blooms) means two colors.....chart./brown back on dark days, chart sexy shad on sunny days.
  3. I use it, but for leaders only. It's been great for that. I have no problems with it.
  4. I went to Conesus this afternoon from 1pm to about 5pm, with the intention of "looking" at smallmouth since we had clear skies and calm winds...perfect for bed fishing........FOILED..... Muddy water and green slime mess. Couldn't get much going for size, but caught numbers, 20 or so small keepers of both green and brown up to about 2.5 lbs, fishing shaky heads, drop shot, and flick shakes around docks. I got off the bank and docks several times during the day fishing, both the inside and outside grass lines, and or some steep drops looking for better size, but it just wasn't happening, so I went to back to the bank/docks, hoping to eventually run into some better fish....never happened. I was due for a poor outing on Conesus, my last 6-8 trips there have been barn burners.....I realize 20 keeper bass in 4 hours is not "poor".............but I have high standards LOL.
  5. I see your from NY. 1-800-TIPP-DEC is the NYS DEC poacher hotline. I have used it, and it works. A DEC officer was on the scene in minutes, offenders were caught.
  6. Veritas Winch or BPS cranking stick's.
  7. You fool... You know you're welcome to come down here, just leave that bad luck home.
  8. I like to flip my fat butt right onto the couch and wait for the water to clear. If that's not an option, a big black and blue jig, with lots of rattles, and a bulky trailer that moves water.
  9. Dry spool bearings. I had a reel doing this yesterday...a little oil made it quiet right down and improved casting distance considerably.
  10. VMC Rugby head is another option to look at.
  11. And two of our better smallmouth....they are not quite the footballs the LMB in this lake are, but are still pretty chunky Mine is doing tricks for the camera.....I trained it to pee on command.
  12. And we caught fish too. I gave the young lad a break and let him drive down to the sticks in the daylight, and we head out shortly before 7am. I was afraid the bite might be off due to the recent cold front, but when I saw water temps in the main lake held steady, I figured we would do ok. We caught fish all day, sometimes we had doubles, sometimes we would go an hour between bites, then catch 5-6 in the next couple minutes, that's just the kind of day it was. We fished till about 5pm, with a break for lunch, and between the 2 of us put 40 fish in the boat. Pretty even numbers between the two of us too. I had the edge in Largemouth with about an 80/20 split between them and smallies, and he had the opposite with more smallies than largemouth. My best 5 were a 4-14, 4-9, 4-2, 3-13 largemouths, and a decent smallie we "forgot" to weigh LOL. He had the big smallmouth for the day at 4-4, and another LM pushing 4, and a good bunch of of upper 3lb range smallies. Fun day, and better than even I expected. Junk fishing ruled the day..............a little of this, a little of that. And I am afraid I caused Ben to go home and make a TW order LOL. My best and his best LM...typical Silver lake tanks....short and fat.
  13. bclark7b came down to fish with me on Silver today....we did ok....
  14. Judging by the guys name, he may be ignorant of the law................no excuse, but let's not lynch him. Maybe he come from a culture/area of the world where food is a luxury...........yeah there are places in the world where the basics are hard to come by. So the guy goes out to stocked ponds, is catching fish left and right (were talking about stockers BTW..not wild natives) and thinks well if I freeze these, me and my family will not starve if times are tough..............OR maybe he is just a scum bag. WE don't know, but to judge him based on an internet article with the minimum facts presented is pretty easy for a bunch of high and mighty white dudes who don't know all the facts. If he's a scumbag poacher......he deserves all he gets and more, if he's an ignorant misguided foreigner, explain to him what he did wrong, levy his fine and move on.
  15. None of the above for me. I only use fluoro as leader material, and it's Red Label. I have caught so many big fish, on so many diff. techniques, from the nastiest of cover with Red Label as leader material, with ZERO failures that were not my own fault (poorly tied knot, not retying after the line got nicked, etc...) There is no reason to buy more expensive line, especially when I am using it in 3'- 5' lengths at a time.
  16. Every single one gets it's hook changed. KVD Mustad 1x strong, 2x short Elite triple grips, I upsize the front to a #2, and keep the back a #4
  17. How many come in a pack?
  18. Abu Garcia 7'6" Mh Veritas winch, with an Abu Garcia Orra Winch spooled up with 20lb braid, fluorocarbon leaders if necessary.
  19. I'm sure you have seen that our high temps are going to barely make it out of the 50's this weekend..................enjoy it now, the crash is coming.
  20. Yup. I just wish they made a larger selection. Rumor has it.... That a largemouth elite tech series is in the works . I wish I would have jumped on the elite techs that were out a few years ago.
  21. Spinning: Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9" M/XF w/ Pflueger President 6930 Casting; Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9" MH/F w/Shimano Curado 51E
  22. Other than bombing me with catalogs, and being slightly higher priced on some items. I like them just fine.
  23. I hope it's as on fire in everyone's backyard like it is in mine right now. I fished for three hours this evening, and lost count of the 3+ lbers. I never cracked 5lbs tonight, but I had several over 4.
  24. Conesus is the place to go for a PB. I got a 7-1 there last year... My pb, and I know a couple guys who have gotten bigger.
