  1. Just got my TW Black friday sale order in, nothing too wild. Stocked up on some Havoc plastics for next year, got a few Strike King cranks, and some Boss jig making supplies. My wife and I both got $10 free gift cards from Field and Stream last week (for what reason IDK,but thanks F&S) so ran up there yesterday afternoon since work was called off due to snow.ice covered roads where we are working, and grabbed a few things. Once again, just a couple bags of Havoc plastics, A couple SK cranks, and some VMC hooks.
  2. I Carolina rig quite often, especially on days where we have strong north or south winds blowing me down the deep weed line, and they are not biting a moving bait like a deep crank, or a big football jig. I just cast it out and let it drag with the wind pushing the boat. I like subtle baits for clear-ish water, and picky fish, like a havoc bottom hopper worm. If the water is colored up a bit, I'll put a bait on with some action. A good old fashioned 7" Berkley Power Worm works great, as do brush hog and lizard type baits.
  3. Same answer as the last time you asked, and it will be the same next time too.
  4. 10 or 20lb braid with a fluoro, leader (usually 10-12lb)
  5. I have had them all (except the early red ones, and the new I) IMHO: E D G B The only ones that ever impressed me enough to keep them more than a year or two were the 51e's. Hated the G, D was heavy and clunky but rock solid and bullet proof, and I am one of the few people on earth that must have gotten two lemon B's in a row. If I we're to go back to Shimano, I would just look for good used E series reels.
  6. Braid with a fluoro leader.Braid for the feel when fishing it in and around grass,I believe I get a cleaner "rip" or "pop" out of the grass with the no stretch braid. The fluoro leader is to combat zebra mussels and pike teeth. It works good for the zebes, and I "only" loose a dozen lipless cranks a year with the fluoro leader to the pike, as opposed to 50 with straight braid.
  7. Join the club..............but Legos sound more exciting than the Barbies that I have been shopping for LMAO.
  8. Havoc Beat Shad has worked well for me in the past. At first I hated this bait because of how flimsy it was, but that's what makes it so good.
  9. Ones that I have debunked..........at least to myself, some people might disagree, oh well, such is life: #1 Color matters #2 Bass are smart #3 Bass fisherman are smart..................and before anyone gets their jock strap in a knot about this, I am example #1..........I say color doesn't matter, yet have the rainbow of colors at my disposal. I'm pretty much an idiot. #4 I lost my train of thought.............
  10. I am biased to NY. We might not have many bass over 8lbs, but we have unreal amounts of 3-5lb fish...........both LM and SM. And you can catch them any way you want. Deep, shallow, grass, rock, wood, boat docks, big lakes, small lakes, rivers, streams, ponds, etc.....Plus we have other species that often cooperate when the bass don't...........but they have teeth LOL. The only other state I have fished in was Florida, and I have caught fish there too, so I don't have a "worst"
  11. Last year I did some business on the Big Bites 10" Kriet Tail worm.
  12. I'm a fan of the current Daiwa Exceler. Retails for $99, but they can be had for under $70 with a little looking. I have Several Exceler's and it's more expensive twin, the Lexa. And unless the Lexa is on sale (which it is BTW right now on TW for $70) I would go with the Exceler every time.
  13. I'll throw a square bill on just about any rod that I own, with the exception of my flipping stick, or deep cranking rod. Generally I am tossing them on a 7' M Abu Vendetta, labeled as Mod-Fast, but it's on the faster side of action you ask me. I use 20lb braid, because I use braid. People will argue, and say braid is not for cranking, good for them. It works for me.
  14. I have used my deep cranking rod (7'6" MH Abu Veritas Winch) while doing a drift and drag with exposed hook tubes, and football jigs for smallmouth. Worked fine.
  15. Too bad my kids Christmas come first, and with the accident at work hanging over our heads, or I would be all over them.
  16. Same, I also don't like running the TM on warp speed. I use just enough for the conditions I am faced with.
  17. For application specific type baits, last Fall I threw the new SK KVD shallow 1.5, and the Arashi Wake bait. The 1.5 dives a little deeper and has a tighter wobble, and no rattle, worked good once the water dipped into the mid/low 50's and cleared up. The Arashi has a very wide wobble, and a rattle, I was using it when the water was warmer and dirtier. I caught decent fish on both.
  18. Power Pro............it's cheap, reliable, and available everywhere.
  19. My go to swim-jig and chatterbait trailer is a grub. I use other trailers from time to time, but I'd say about 75% of the time I am using a grub.
  20. It's been a week since the accident. He's still kickin', and every little bit of news that trickles out to us is better than the last. We're still working, so things have settled down here for now. It's just a wait and see game from here on out.
  21. Hope he gets well soon.
  22. This morning I guess they took him off the heavy sedation/induced coma and woke him up. He opened his eyes and was alert and knew what had happened and what was going on. Still optimistic about the left leg, and they were able to, for the time being, save enough of his right leg below the hip socket to at least fasten a prosthetic to if/when the time comes. Still a long ways to go before he's out of the woods, and still a lot of things unknown at this time, but at least the news today was somewhat positive.
  23. Stock hooks plain out suck IMHO. I crank with braid, and use the Mustad KVD elite, 1x strong,2x short triple grips. On a 5xd I run a #2 on the front, and a #4 on the back. 50lb is overkill, I do all my cranking (deep, shallow,lipless,etc..)with 20. Throw a fluoro leader on if your in abrasive conditions. This nonsense of "you'll lose fish and pull hooks out if you crank with braid" is just that..... Nonsense. There are just some people who don't know what they are doing and blame the braid because they can't adjust... And there are adjustments to be made. And #1 is stouter hooks.
