  • About Me
68 years old and I've been fishing in one form or another since Dad first took me when I was 6. I'm the biggest baseball/Oakland A's fan I know. Used to be a boat owner, but I truly prefer bank fishing for bass. 99% topwater and I've become pretty good at it. My top 5 PB have all been on topwater with my PB being an 8-3 in 2014, which isn't bad for Eastern Iowa.

  1. Yes. They email you the shipping label/labels. Where I ship from they copy the label from my phone and put it on the tube. Don't know if 3 rods will fit in one tube, but 2 will for sure. I've used their trade-in program several times. Very good company to deal with.
  2. I have a JDM Scorpion 70 that I will never part with. I absolutely love that reel!
  3. And their parts are VERY reasonably priced!
  4. Now you're talking my language!
  5. Occasionally, but not often, I'll get hit within seconds after landing in the water. Mostly though I try to cast just past where I want to be.
  6. KVD line conditioner is your friend. It really does work!
  7. I always try to fish where no one else does, or use what no one else uses, and most of the time I do both of these.
  8. Now this reel sure brings back some memories! The ones in great condition I've seen cost much more now than when they were new. But I still look for them?
  9. I remember the toothpaste thing from late 70's or early 80's. Only tried it once with a Bantam 100, and it's been so long ago I don't remember the result. Sounded like it would work in theory with the little grit in the toothpaste.
  10. For me, it seems to run in cycles. One year they prefer feathered and one year not. Topwater is ALL I use because of the vegetation where I fish. With all the topwater choices (and I have and have used most?) the Super Spook Jr. has probably caught the most for me. Except for maybe an X-Pod jr. And you will catch fish almost the size of your bait, but also some big ones. Doesn't matter what time of day, or what time of year, they've always been killers for me. Oh yeah - and you can't beat the fun of using a topwater?
  11. I think you are right. I think some were Jimmy Houston and Bill Dance models, also.
  12. I semi-retired 7 years ago at 62 so I only work part time for the same company I retired from. Like what I do and truly love the people I work with. But - don't have near as much free time as I thought I would so I really don't fish more than I did before. And the days, weeks, months seem to go by so much faster now.
  13. I've been using Sufix Advance 8# the past few years and absolutely love it! Low stretch, very strong, excellant abrasion resistance, and great casting. Been using with a JDM Scorpion 70 and couldn't be happier.
  14. I'll be 69 in April, and still in great health, and except for maybe line I could probably go until I can't fish anymore. But will I? We all know how that goes?
  15. That sounds awful. We just missed it a LOT of times this winter.
