  • About Me
Retired 20 years and an obsessed ultralight angler with a JDM addiction. My best day is wading the incredible Monocacy River for small mouth, panfish, trout and scenery with a Major Craft rod, Daiwa reel, ester 2lb and lures under 4 grams.

  1. Here in Maryland, mostly in the Monocacy, I first target rock walls that soak up the sun most of the day, then slow pools, also in the sun. Best baits are usually small plastics like grubs and paddle tail swimbaits up to maybe 4" on jigheads as light as possible. Gear is ultralight or lighter (JDM) with line up to 4lbs. Huge fan of JDM stuff.
  2. Citation bluegill on a Daiwa Iprimi 5'6 xxul, Piscifun CarbonX 500, Varivas LemoniEster 1.43# and Mule Fishing 1/80 Mule Jig with Eurotackle EPF Swim. Love my ultralight gear.

Citation bluegill on 1.4# polyester and an Iprimi XXUL.
  4. I have several presidents plus a 20xt and a 30xtle. All are great reels and great values, especially on sale. However, my daiwa collection of similarly priced reels is superior in almost every way. The legalis and exceler models are incredible and include choices for spool depth and gear ratio. The Shimano line is just too heavy unless you can spend JDM money. One fisherman's opinion, albeit with 60 years experience, mostly ultralight and finesse techniques.
