  1. i use a small plastic case that some wood screws came in...works good
  2. i had problems with baklash recently too...it was from an over filled spool...i leave about a 1/4 in from the top of the spool and no more backlash(much) ;D
  3. yeah, you did, and having muddy and avid replies just made it better! you guys crack me up Cliff
  4. nothing like getting answers...funny and helpful ones within 30 minutes of asking the question...i have been deadsticking just didnt know it...thanks guys! ;D Cliff
  5. i have seen this term used several times here...can someone please explain exactly how/what "deadsticking" is? thanks Cliff
  6. yeah last night i caught another 3.5 lber, but forgot to get a pic....now that i know how to read my scale properly, this one went 19 inches and weighed the same...a tad shorter and a bit fatter...the funny part was my buddy had a nice one on and it got off....a few minutes later i was in the spot where he had that one on...i said "is this where you had that nice one on?" he said "yeah" i said "dont worry, i'll get'em for ya"...and i caught it on that cast and on the same lure but a slightly differnt color...was on a watermelon tiki stick again, he was using green pumpkin...and again the fish picked it up off the bottom while it was just sitting there Cliff
  7. well i have thought about this alot over the last couple days....i have decided to keep my casting gear....but my next rod/reel purchase will be a spinning rig for sure...thanks for the tips guys, i knew i could count on you! Cliff
  8. NBR, i use an EWG hook too, 3/0 gammy.....and i know this might sound weird....but lately i have been using my spinning gear....and no line twist issues....it is only on my casting gear
  9. i use their power worms and have had good luck with them, i use their trilene XT and XL lines and have had no issues with them, i use their rods as well(cherrywood, bionix) and havent had any issues with them... i like the berkley stuff, it is priced well(for me anyway) and it works well...i think the way their baits stink makes a difference Cliff
  10. well i am not planning to go with just one rig for everything, but to have all my rigs be spinning...tonight i went out and only brought my spinning set up...was a very enjoyable trip...only got 2 bass but one was 3.5 lbs but stupid me forgot to get a pic...was so worried about getting the fish back in the water the picture didnt even cross my mind untill it was swimming away! anyway i cant really afford to go out and buy more gear so i was considering selling(or trading) my 2 casting outfits and using the money to buy new spinning gear...i havent made up my mind yet.... Cliff
  11. yeah my sprains were never that bad..the first one looked like a baseball under my skin but that was the worst one....and it WILL cause trouble in the long run...that first one is the only time i went to the doctor and followed his instructions, every time after that i continued to walk and do what ever...now i am almost 30 and they cause me alot of trouble...just today while walking in the parking lot i stepped on something uneven and hit the deck....they give out very easily now Cliff
  12. years ago i watched a guy on a pond on Ft Hood catch a fish on a skitter pop(?)...right as he was about to land the fish it came off the hook...the dude threw down his rod and went in head first....and came out with a 12lb catfish in his hands..it was crazy...he told me he caught an 8lber in the same spot on the same lure the week before Cliff
  13. is there a way to prevent this when using weightless worms(mainly senkos)? and i am not talking about spinning gear here....my baitcaster is severly twisted...will using a swivel help this? or do i just need to deal with it cuz its part of the game? i rig the worm as straight as possible and straighten it if it gets out of wack on a retrieve...any help is much appreciated Cliff

    Buddys PB

it was weightless t-rigged...we have been fishing a small tank..maybe an acre or two...very weedy and probably 10-12 feet deep in one spot..the rest shallower...but all the bigger bass we have caught have come from the deep water on soft plastics...either trick worm or tiki stick...both weightless...there is actually two ponds we have been hitting....one we have caught a couple 3 lbers from and a ton of dinks...the other has produced far fewer fish but in better size...in this one i am after a hawg i had on the other day...saw it right at my feet and then the hook just popped out...after having caught a 3.5 lber i would say this one will go 5 plus...i got a real nice look at it when i had it on my line. Cliff
  15. well i am sure you made the right decision...i have sprained my ankles many times...i was a hardcore skateboarder for many years....but i have to say...i would have gone fishing Cliff

i caught only dinks tonight, but neil got his PB....3lber on a green pumpkin zoom trick worm rigged weightless Cliff
  17. i pretty much grew up using spinning gear...until i moved to minnesota about 5 years ago....i then got my first casting set up to use for pike....i fell in love with it....now i have two identical casting setups and have rarley used my spinning gear up until the last two days...man do i miss it! it was just alot of fun to use....no backlashes, no adjusting brakes, easily casting light baits...i just loved it...i am seriously considering selling my casting stuff to buy new spinning gear...and just go all spinning for everything...so keep your eyes on the flea market, might be some stuff up for sale/trade soon! Cliff
  18. that one was caught on a watermelon tiki stick...3/0 gammy EWG weightless...that bass picked it up off the bottom, it was just sitting there
  19. i have 3 setups i use, two casting and one spinning... spinning-abu garcia cardinal($33) 6' MH berkley bionix($50)weightless/light stuff/topwaters casting-abu garcia 5501($75) 6' MH berkley cherrwood($20)t-rigs/jigs casting-abu garcia 5501($75)6'6" M berkely cherrywood($20)cranks/spinnerbaits dont know if that helps but i am kinda on a budget as well...that $50 bionix rod is alot for me to spend on a rod....you can get all this stuff at walmart...but not the 5501's...never have seen a left handed casting reel at walmart...but they do have the rightys Cliff
  20. well if you have all the windows disks and the disks for any other programs/games and want to start fresh you should be fine...but there is other things you can do first to try to fix the problem....run the disk defragmenter, do a disk cleanup, check for spyware(you can download free programs for this...google "spybot S&D", "ad-aware", those are two good ones i know of)uninstall/delete any crap on your hard drive that you dont need or dont use anymore....after all that if it still is running slow then it is beyond my knowledge...if i have some problems like that i normally format the hard drive and reinstall fresh...keep in mind if you format the hard drive you WILL LOSE EVERYTHING! you will be deleting windows and everything else from your computer...so back up important stuff onto disks...i reinstall windows like this about 2-3 times a year...its like having a brand new PC! good luck Cliff
  21. well i got a 5'6" light rod and put my older cardinal on it and gave it to the wife....she mainly bobber fishes so i will just call that one hers....for me i got a 7' M but after getting to the lake we realized it had a bad tip....so i took it back this morning and got a 6' MH....so for me i now have 3 set ups...they go like this..... 6'6" M Casting-Cranks/spinnerbaits 6' MH Casting-t-rigs/jigs 6' MH Spinning-weightless/light applications/topwaters now i know i said avove this wasnt about rod brands or anything, but since i got a different one this morning i wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with them...all my rods(including the wifes) are berkley cherrywoods, but the MH spinning rod i got this morning is a berkley bionix rod...this was a big upgade for me, at least in price($20 cherrywoods, $50 bionix)...i went to a different walmart and found them tucked away in the corner..it feels really nice and has a really stiff feel, which i like...after i fish with it and if i like it i may upgrade the cherrywoods to these bionix rods...so has anyone used the berkley bionx rod? Thanks Cliff
  22. well i plan to get that fish at some point in time...would a bass stay in the same general area? it is a small tank...maybe and acre or two...in something so small would a big fish like that stick to one small area or roam the entire thing? there is an island that you can basically cast to the entire pond from. just wondering if i should target the same area where she bit the first time or fish the whole place Cliff
  23. ok so i have been wondering about this fish since i caught it.....i just knew it wasnt 7 lbs....not after seeing the fish pictures posted on here...it just wasnt that big...so i got out my scale and checked it out....i rechecked it with the dumbells again and it showed me right on this time...that fish above is 3.5 lbs..lol..man was i off! i dont wear my glasses when i go fishing, i really only need them for reading...so i asked the guy i was with to count the little marks and tell me how much it weighed...he counted 7 little marks....so i was like wow!...measured it and let it go...well each mark is a half a pound....so i am going to call my PB a 3.5 pounder...and on payday i think i will buy a digital scale cuz this thing is a pile of crap...anyway i just wanted to clear that up....cuz it dosent even look like 7lbs to me....but 7lbs or 2lbs...it was a blast to catch it! and i have to say i owe it all to this forums and the great members on it...cuz just a short time ago i had no idea what a t-rig, or c-rig or any of that stuff was thanks Cliff
  24. yes we have had about 95 gegrees with bright sun and little wind....after tonight i am gonna be sore, i got myself a wicked sunburn! but i caught some fish too! Cliff
  25. went out again tonight...only caught 7 bass all dinks cept for this one...now....i mentioned in another post that my scale was way off...but i was reading the Kg not the lbs....so i put a 2lb dumbell on it and it was pretty close...about a 1/2lb heavy...this fish measured 20 inches and the scale told me it was right on 7lbs...it was a nice fat fish....so i am kinda stumped as to what i should call it at....what would you say?....but it was for sure bigger than the one i caught last night and is my PB...she took a watermelon tiki stick. great fun! i also caught this hawg! thanks for looking! Cliff
