  1. i only have one combo that i use....it is an Alpster custom 6' MH on a shikari blank with a Revo S (used to be a C3 untill a few days ago)...i use it for jigs, topwaters, cranks, t-rigs, spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, weightless plastics, shakey heads, etc etc etc. i alos use it for fishing for whites, hybrids, and will be using it for smallies in NY this coming year ;D i have a couple other berkley rods, a couple C3's, and a couple cardinal spinning reels...but since i got that rod from ronnie and the revo, they only catch dust bunnies now..i cant bring myself to use the lower end stuff when i have the bitchin' custom rod/revo combo at my side Cliff Cliff
  2. what is the reason for having it in pairs? will it damage the reel? it seems that if they were supposed to be in pairs or something it would be noted somewhere or you wouldnt be able to adjust only one Cliff
  3. just think of what it took to get all the materials up there to build the place. must have been some process, i would like to know how they did it cool house though Cliff

  6. the booklet i got lists ALL of AG brake systems for ALL their baitcasting reels, and it does not specify which reel model has which brake system thanks for the link ronnie! Cliff
  7. well lets start off with i got a revo s lefty from my wife for x-mas...early...and i got to use it a bit over the last couple days, it is mounted on my 6' MH custom rod. we started friday night for a couple hours trying to stick some hybrids, well we managed a few small whites. the reel worked well, i had the brakes set to 3 on and 3 off. it cast nice and i didnt get any backlash, but i was not getting the distance that i know this reel can achieve. so this morning we went again. i decided after a bit that i needed to reset the brakes so i could get more distance. so i turned all six off. big mistake! first cast i backlashed so badly i had to strip all the line off the reel. so i asked my partner if he had some more line on the boat. he told me his spare spools (shimano sonara's) were in the box and i could transfer the line off of one of them. so i get one out and run the line through the guides. we decided to move the boat a ways to follow the gulls. so i held the line and had the spool between my feet on the floor while the boat was moving. at this point the line is NOT tied to my reel's spool. as we are cruising along, i feel the line pulling from my hand and before i could react my partners entire spare spool is on its way to its final resting place at the bottom of belton lake in about 60 foot of water. i still dont know how it got out from between my feet and into the lake. now i am ticked and to top it all off we are not catching any good fish. so i finished the trip using one of his rod and reels. i get home early this afternoon and decide to go to a stock tank to "play" with my new revo and figure it out. well, after another spools worth of line and about 2 hours later, i can now cast a freakin country mile and a half with no backlash!! ;D this thing is sweet, so smooth and light, i have it set with one brake on and the rest off. the casting distance and accuracy is just as good and probebly better than with my C3's and effortless, just a flick of the wrist and away my bait goes. i caught one dink on a rattletrap but had a blast casting with this reel. like alot of people have said on here, better equipment will not make you catch more fish, but it sure does make your time on the water much more enjoyable!! my conclusion is this is a great reel for the money, but for me it took a bit of work to get so i could cast it properly, my next reel will be another revo S for sure! thanks Cliff P.S. anyone know where i can get a shimano sonora 4000FA aluminum spool?
  8. merry christmachannukakwanzakah!! for real tho, merry christmas guys, if it wasnt for this place i would be clueless as to how to LMB fish...thanks for the great stuff!!!

Thanks Cliff
  12. glad your home safe man....thanks! dont worry about the centex fish...i have been catching plenty of them...we caught over 100 fish (whites and hybrids) last sunday on belton...gonna do it again this weekend Cliff
  13. I just bought a 5501C from ebay, hope to work it out on some stripers soon =) i use my 5501 for everything...but it works great for whites and stripers....we caught over 100 fish this past sunday....all whites and hybrids...only one LMB...was tons of fun!..the C3 performed flawlessly..as per usual Cliff
  14. 6' MH Custom built by Alpster with a Abu Garcia 5501 C3...but...if santa delivers the C3 will be replaced by an Abu Garcia Revo S thats all folks!! Cliff
  15. yeah i forgot about needles too...hate those...the most painful one i ever had was the anthrax shot...i got it when i was in korea...it was a series of six shots...each going in the back (tricep) of your arm at an upward angle...hurt like hell....funny tho...i have a big tattoo that spans shoulder to shoulder and half way down on my back...those needles didnt bother me one bit...maybe cuz i couldnt see it....i got a pop R hook stuck in my shoulder once...the doc gave me a novacane shot so he could cut it out...i passed out Cliff
  16. i am not a big fan of flying....although now when i travel to NY to visit the family i do fly...i just cant handle that long drive anymore....alot of things i do at work i dont like, but i do them anyway..ladders, unstable scaffold etc etc...dont care for spiders either.....but the thing i fear the most...is living in texas for another year and catching a bass over 5lbs!!!!!! ;D
  17. should be fun this year now that my nephews are living with me....but when i was a kid it was like torture....we would get up and fisrt we got to open the stuff in our stockings....then we had to eat breakfast...THEN had to wait for mom to do the dishes!!!! before we could get to the "big" stuff under the tree...man when your a little kid it is like pulling teeth...this year we are going to my father in laws on x-mas eve and the mother in laws on x-mas day....i went home to NY in september so i wont see my folks this year for the holidays....i am planning my next trip home for the spring/summer so i can do some smallie fishing Cliff
  18. nice one! dang, i have been in texas for a year now and have only managed one dink 4lber
  19. well if you do get one...be sure to waer the wrist strap on the controllers...my father in law had someone throw a controller right through his big screen TV's screen...i think it was about a $400 fix...but it is a fun game
  20. does anyone have any experience with this reel? http://www.***.com/descpageRLCDAIWA-DEC.html# thanks Cliff
  21. lets see...i told my wife a few things...like an electric razor, some screwdrivers, t-shirts....oh yeah, some more LC's and some jigs Cliff
  22. got out again today for a few hours....was windy...i really got to test the sensitivity of the rod today...i have mostly used traps sine i got it...but today i was using a t-rigged worm....and let me say i could feel everything! especially compared to my other rods.....we caught a bunch of bass....mostly dinks but i did manage this 2 lber and a small hybrid/big white....i cant tell the difference 2lber hybrid/white was a good day....caught fish on t-rigged worm(zoom u-tale, watermelon red) trap(bill lewis chrome/blue back), and i got one on a minnow rap(shad) my buddy got this one on a red shad zoom u-tale thanks Cliff
  23. yeah that rod is great...about the spiral wrap.....at first you look at it and it just seems like something is wrong....your like how can this work with the guides not inline? but for me it seems there is no difference in distance or accuracy.....if anything my accuracy has improved and my distance is the same or abetter.....the main thing for me is that i have some kind of issue with my right hand.....some kind of tendonitits or arthritis or something.....it will get very fatigued and i will get a loss of grip if i do something with that hand for extended periods of time....i get it often at work when hammering etc etc....and i get it whilie palming my reel too....i originally thought it was due to a 5501 being a rather large reel (for my hands) but now i am thinking it was my rods....cuz i havent experienced this fatigue at all with this rod....i was considering a revo for its small size.....now i dont know i may just stick to the round reels.....anyway...like the reel mech said...ronnie does some very fine work! thanks Cliff
  24. well i wasnt really sure where to post this...it is a report on my new rod, but also a great outing... anyway first the rod...it was made for me by our very own Alpster....let me begin by saying that he is one heck of a guy and a very fine craftsman....he built me a awesome rod....it is 6' MH x-fast...shikari blank....really nice....last night we heard rumors that the whites were biting like mad on lake whitney so we headed there first thing this morning.....we caught 70 plus whites in three hours of fishing....all of the fish were caught on a daiwa game vibe (me) and a silver spoon (my buddy) this rod performed great...sensitive, light, casting was awesome and accurate....very comfortable as well...three hours of action and no fatigue it is just an excellent rod, i couldnt have asked for more! here is some pics of the rod, and the some of the whites we caught thanks again to Ronnie for the sweet rod!! thanks Cliff
  25. i went out sunday morning....was just barely drizzling out and no wind...in the 40's..not bad....soon as we get to the golf course it closes...so we go to lake waco COE park....get out and start casting....it starts pouring and the wind picks up big time...needless to say...after about 2 minutes of that, we bailed.... have i become that big of a sissy in 1 year? i was born and raised in upstate NY, and in the last 6 years 5 of them were spent in duluth minnesota....and i worked OUTSIDE!! we used to pray for it to warm up to zero so we could shed a layer or two....now it is in the 40's with some rain and wind and i cant even hardly stand it....let me tell you, when it is 20 below and your outside three stories up, and 25 feet from the shore of lake superior and the wind is blowing 20 MPH and its snowing....THAT...is freakin cold...i would have thought 40 and a little rain would be nothing...oh well guess i have become a sissified southern boy ;D Cliff
