  1. this is so true, last year i had a bunch of crap rods, now i have two customs and thats all i own. one was built for me and the other i built and just finished up tonight. do like he says and buy one good set up rather than a few lesser ones. cliff
  2. have fun!! i can just hear him now saying"what a piiig" in that high pitched girly voice he does, cracks me up everytime!! Cliff
  3. i am a righty, i cast with my right and crank with my left, i like to have the rod in my good hand i guess.
  4. i know the feeling, a few months ago my parents decided tp put my dog, bilbo down. he didnt have any diseases or anything, he was just plain old, he was pushing 15 years, and that is really old for a dalmation, normal lifespan is 9-11 years. he was a great dog and will be missed a bunch. i am sorry to hear about you cat Cliff
  5. for about an hour, and i caught my first fish on my new cavitron buzzbait....man this was the fight of a lifetime i tell ya!! didnt realize the line was in front of me, anyway i caught one other dink that was a bit bigger than this one and that was it!1 Cliff

    first rod build

thanks, yeah keith is the man!! i just picked up the finish for the rod, i hope i got the right stuff, here is what i got. rod wrapping finish, flex coat. it is two syringes with some brushes, sticks, and cups. says it will finish 4 average rods. thanks Cliff
  8. i dont know much about the two reels you mention, but my daiwa procaster-z will out cast my revo anyday of the week.

    first rod build

yeah we will have to do that. my nephew was watching me finish off the butt cap tonight and i was telling him how i built this rod....he came up to me a few minutes later and asked me if i would build him a rod. so now i am thinking about that! anyway i will hopefully have that finish done this weekend. thanks Cliff
  10. x2 He is funny. yeah mike rowe is great, watch this coming week on dirty jobs he will be spending some time on one of the boats. i think it is part of "alaska week" speaking of mike rowe, i recently watched a cheesy old fire safety video at my works monthly safety meeting. the main character was "Max Monday" the fire inspector. he was a total nerd and dressed like an inspector. and talking with a kinda weird voice. running around inspecting everything. was very bad acting. anyway, it was mike rowe!! musta been where he got his start in TV or something. Cliff
  11. i voted revo, i have and S-L, but i also have a daiwa procaster-Z japanese model i bought in the flea market here. and FYI, that daiwa will out cast my revo everytime.
  12. well i decided to build a rod. first i have to say that i had a great teacher. keith(fletchero) invited me to come to his home and show me the ropes. i went down to belton last wednesday evening and we picked out a blank, glued up a grip and a few other things(including pizza!). then i went back saturday and spent the entire day turning the grip, gluing the grip and seat in place, guides, the whole thing. keith showed me a lot, i learned a ton. he answered all my questions and explained everything we were doing. he showed me how to wrap the guides and let me try once. then i brought the rod home saturday evening. i spent saturday night finishing the wraps. i cant get my stupid camera to ake a close up of them, but here is a pic of the grip. this was taken before the butt cap was in place. this weekend i will finish the wraps then it will be completed. keith provided everything i needed for the rod from his own supply. and he sent me home with the thread for the wraps plus tom kirkman's book so i can do some reading on the subject. the rod is an allstar 6'6" Heavy, fuji guides and reel seat(will be primarily my jig rod). i just did black wraps on the guides(figured that was a good idea on a black blank for a first try). anyway keith is a heck of a guy and i cant thank him enough for taking the time from his schedule to show me how to build a rod, i look forward to many more!! thanks keith!! 13. i use these at work too...they are good tools for the money i think. but if you are using and abusing them DAILY on a construction site or something, buying dewalt, makita, craftsman etc etc might be a better idea. but i think for "around the house" use harbor freight stuff is great.
  14. welcome, i moved to texas about a year and a half ago from minnesota. i am in waco so i dont know much about your area. but you might check local golf courses and see if they allow the general public to fish in their tanks. just an idea. but the best advice you will find will be from the folks here on this forums. Cliff
  15. i agree probebly a pike or pickarel, or muskie, use a steel leader and maybe some heavier line and catch that thing. they are great fun! Cliff
  16. i usually get well done, no sauce usually, maybe a little black pepper tho.
  17. i just do the speed limit, which is mainly 65(night)70(day) where i drive, but even during the day i usually keep it at 65, no cruise control either, which does kinda suck. in my truck it costs me about $40-45 to fill it up, i can go almost two weeks on a tank driving to and from work and one fishing trip on the weekends. if i go fishing more than once then i might go a week and a half.
  18. i catch dinks like that all day!! j/k man i miss catching smallies, i entered a walleye tournament once and caught 5 smallmouth!! no walleyes!! but it was great fun! thats a nice looking pic BTW
  19. i have wondered about this as well, just never mentioned anything. if someone asked me where i caught a fish, i would tell them where and what i caught it on, i love catching fish but i get pumped up when my buddy catches one too. i dont feel any need to keep my spots secret or anything like that. Cliff
  20. i have loved fishing for as long as i can remember. but i think i fell in love when my dad bought me a boat when i was in high school, it was a complete suprise. it was a 1952 14' row boat, had a hole in it and a big dent. he pounded out the dent, repaired the leak, painted it red and slapped a 7.5 HP merc on it. many a sunburn and smallmouth were had in "the red torpedo", wish i never sold it now. Cliff
  21. i bank fish too, honestly i dont see how you can cart that huge thing around!! i wouldnt even have that big of a box if i fished from a boat. i carry a single box, i dont know what size it is, it is about 11 inches long and maybe 7 wide and an inch and a half deep. i got a few cranks, jigs, topwaters, spinnerbaits, and i throw in a few different soft plastics each time i go, plus my terminal tackle, pliers, camera and scale go in my pants pockets...then i am ready to roll. i have been eyeballing the falcon V4 speedbag tho, looks kinda nice, but i just dont think i would use all that space.
  22. yes you will love it, it is a great reel, i use mine with only one brake on, i can cast everything in my box a mile, and rarely have to adjust the spool tension Cliff
  23. i have a alpster custom as well, and it is my favorite too..it is paired with a revo S..total would be around $225 Cliff
  24. i am pretty sure it was a 14:38 TWO mile!! i never ran that good my whole time in!
  25. congrats on the promo man...and thanks. i had a 1st sgt that didnt like to be called "top", than i had another that seemed to prefer to be called "top" will you have a preference? or wont it matter? i remember one 1st sgt i had in korea...he was an older african american man, smoked like a chimney, and loved to run us hard...but no matter how tired he was, he was ALWAYS the first one back after a long run. pretty impressive when a guy in his fifties blows past the 18 year old guys with a smoke hanging out of his mouth!!! and i never met another person in the army would could count cadance like this guy...this guy had rhythem!!! good luck to you!! Cliff
