  1. Well i missed all but five hours of work last week due to my back being messed up, again. this time muscle spasms (sp?) and inflamation around the discs, it is a mess but slowly getting better, for now. sitting in my little boat on the hard plastic seat for hours is not helping it. so i was considering a mod or two to help me out. first, here is the boat. now a padded seat is definetly going to be added in place of one of the plastic ones. another idea i had was to attach a piece of 3/4 inch plywood(with indoor/outdoor carpeting) to the floor to make it more stable for standing. then i would put the new padded seat on a short pedestal so i could stand and lean my arse against it so i dont have to sit all day. i can stand right now but the floor is "hollow" and a bit spongy, making it hard to keep balance. do you think this would work? any other ideas? i guess i have to either find a way to be able to stand comfortably or shorten my trips. shortening my trips is out of the question so i dont have much choice. ;D any ideas are much appreciated!! thanks Cliff
  2. mudhole carries a split grip rod kit, here is the link http://www.mudhole.com/Shop-Our-Catalog/Complete-Rod-Kits/Custom-Builder-Split-Grip-Rod-Kits
  3. yes i see now, after a little fiddling with it, that white plastic "wire" is a protective cover around the inner wire. then the outer wire must be this braided deal your referring to. that plastic cover is pretty important eh? cant just reconnect the wires and tape it up? thanks for your reply Cliff
  4. my luck isnt getting any better, thats for sure, cant catcha fish and today my transducer wire got caught up in the tilting mechanism of the trolling motor and was sliced in two. can these be spliced back together? i see it has some normal wire inside but it also has this white plastic "wire" in there as well. is a repair possible or do i need to buy a new transducer? thanks Cliff
  5. i have the 8' model, i like it, works great, very stable and i can stand in it easily. however the sleightest breeze will blow you around badly. i had mine out on lake waco a couple weeks ago in like 20mph hour winds, i wouldnt recommend this!! first two speed setting were not strong enough to go forward and when the waves hit just the right way they smashed over the front and i was taking on water!! stick to calm days and smaller waters and you will be fine.
  6. hey all, i havent been out too much lately but have planned the trip i took today for a few weeks now, so i was really looking forward to it. this might get kinda long explaining everything, so if you stick with it, thanks. i have fished this small 72 acre lake before, from shore, and have caught fish, biggest being 3.5lber. anyway, i went again today with my boat and new depth finder(first time using depth finder). i launched at 8am and just kinda cruised along the d**n watching the graph and casting a fluke here and there. i caught three small fish by 930 am on the fluke, in very shallow water. i knew it was going to get over 100 degrees today so when the fluke bite died i cruised the lake real quick and found the deepest water i could, 12' dropping sharply into 18' running from the d**n straight out into the lake. so i set up on it and fished it hard. for hours! i didnt leave the lake until 5pm and i bet i only spent 2 of those hours aywhere but this dropoff, everything else i saw was 12' or less. i t-rigged, i c-rigged, jigged, cranked, swimbaited. lizard, worm, big worm, senko, trick worm, all differnt colors. not a another single fish the whole day. nothing. a solid skunk from 930 am till 5pm. i worked the baits fast and slow, super slow! i would let it sit and have a coke, or rig up another rod, play with the depth finder. i even had all three rods down once with three different baits! so i am just wondering if i did something wrong or if it was just one of those days when they dont bite. like i said it was 100 plus and bright sun with very minimal wind. i just felt so good going out this morning being more prepared than ever before having a boat and depth finder now. i mean i wasnt planning to catch a handful of ten pounders, but dang, three dinks in nine hours!!?? what should i have done differently? any tips for my next go at it? thanks for reading and any help you can offer. Cliff
  7. i just did this with my TM. i used 6ga wire, from home depot, they should have black and red. i used gurndy (sp?) nuts to make the splices. they are kinda high, about $5 for two at home depot as well. then i taped everything with electrical tape, then liquid electrical tape, then i wrapped it with the heavy rubber roofing tape that the roofer guys use when they do our roofs at work. the splices can sit right in water in the bottom of my boat and they are fine.
  8. ouch! i had one from a pop-r once buried in the back of my shoulder. it was caught up in some tall grass behind me about 15 feet or so, instead of walking back to free it up, i yanked it as hard as i could. that thing came at me like a bullet!! sleeveless shirt, i was screwed. ended up having it cut out. not fun.
  9. i took my 8 foot pelican out this past weekend for the first time. i have it rigged with the 30lb MK endura as well and man it was awesome! me and my buddy did just fine, the fishing wasnt very good but we had a blast. my only complaint is that the wind can be your enemy and there isnt alot of room for your gear, but we managed ok. i got some of those velcro deals made for the deck of a bass boat to hold rods and rigged them on one side to strap my rods in. i tied up the life vests and spare paddle under the seats so they are out of the way. it worked great and sure beats fishing from the shore. here is a couple pics.
  10. why not also include some back exercises? i always thought i was in pretty decent shape, then one day about four years ago at work i shifted my lower eight inches of my spine and pelvis, an inch and a half to one side. not good. after the first visit to the chiropractor i learned from this cool back scanner deal, that my lower back muscles were very weak. and after many weeks visiting him and following his exercise plan, my readout on the scanner went from red and yellow to green. however i still have issues from this injury, and always will. if i could go back and do it over again i would try to strengthen my entire "core" to prevent such injuries. worst of my life, the pain was unbelievable. the first two days i didnt leave the couch, because i couldnt. many of the exercises he had me doing inolved one of those big exercise balls. 15. when i was in the army, one of the sergeants gave the new private a piece of white chalk and a hammer. told him to go to each tank in the company (16 abrams tanks) and test for "soft spots" in the armor by tapping with hammer, then circling the "soft spot" with the chalk. by the end of the day there were 16 tanks with little white circles all over them, pretty funny. or the old classics like "get me a box of grid squares"(i was told that one time a guy actually cut each and every grid square from a map and gave it to his sergeant) or "a box of spare reticules"(thats the digital crosshairs in the sights of the tank.) good stuff Cliff
  16. the book is "Lone survivor" by Marcus Luttrell with Patrick Robinson. it is the true story of a navy seal team in the afghanistan mountains in 2005. i admit i dont read much, but i finished this book in two days, i couldnt put it down. i wont go into any details, but i will say that navy seals must be about the baddest mofo's walking the planet, and we should all feel lucky that there are men in this world willing to go through the extensive training to fight for this country. the book is awesome, an excellent read!! check it out!! Marcus Luttrell is one of the four man seal team, he tells the story, he's a texan too, and quite funny. enjoy! Cliff
  17. i always thought their bass player was pretty decent(he is no les claypool however), but did not like them too much.

  22. this is Zoey, i got her from the humane society a week or so before she was to be "executed" the vet there said she is Blue Heeler/collie or border collie mix. the blue heeler is obvious cuz of her color, i think collie due to her size. either way she rocks, super smart and SUPER energetic. next is charlie, he is 100% shar-pei(sp) and 100% LAZY. it is so funny to watch zoey grab a mouth full of that flappin skin and drag him around the house! Cliff
