  1. I am using a 7'11" Lamiglas Excel. I really like it. However I am mainly pitchin to very heavy timber so you might not want that big of a stick. The same series of rods has a 7'3" MH that might suit you. Plus they are 100% made in the USA...not too shabby for $110! Check them out. http://www.***.com/Lamiglas_Excel_Bass_Series_Casting_Rods/descpage-LEBSRC.html
  2. Thanks for the info guys. The front is supposed to arrive late morning Saturday. Then down to 50's at night and low 80's during the day next week. When is the best time to be on the water? Before it gets here, during, or the days following? Thanks again for your help. Cliff
  3. I use a Bandit 200 here on Lake Waco. I haven't had any trouble getting it through the timber, and it is pretty thick on this lake. The fish here love the pearl/chart back coor.
  4. I peg mine when I am fishing really heavy cover, which is almost always. If I am fishing open water or the outside edges of the cover, I will unpeg. I peg to keep from getting hung up, I unpeg to give the bait a slower fall behind the weight.
  5. Do these get treated the same a cold front in the spring? If not, what is the ideal plan for one this time of year? We are looking like one is coming in on this coming Saturday. I will be free to fish Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday morning. Any tips will be much appreciated! Thanks Cliff
  6. There is nothing you could give me to make me do that. Nothing, no amount of money, a ten pounder guaranteed everytime I cast a line till the day I die...nothing.
  7. I got a 2004 Dodge Dakota. It has a 6 cyl but other than that it is plain jane, no power, no 4x4, regular cab. It is as if the bed of this truck was designed just for my 8' Bass Raider, fits perfectly between the wheel wells.
  8. Congrats to everyone. I check this site daily and owe everything I know about LMB fishing to BR!! Thanks y'all! Cliff
  9. IMO you have overcome one of the hardest things to do in bass fishing. Good job! Cliff

    Decent morning

I will try that fluke. They were on the bank Friday as well, however a t-rigged Rage Craw was the ticket then. Due to closed ramps I will be forced to fish the same area again. I really wanted to get on the north end and flip the heavy timber, too far to travel on the lake for me. its ok though if I keep catching them here I am happy.
  11. I got out early this morning. It was nice and calm, just how I like it. I managed to get seven total with only two keepers. Couldn't get a bite on anything but a chart/white spinnerbait. All fish were right on the banks and were tight to cover. Every fish was a reaction strike right as my bait hit the water. This was also my first time catching something other than dinks on my new, and first, Medium rod. Tons of fun on the lighter rig! Here are pics of the biggest two. The first one I put on the scale, it was 2.2lbs, I didn't scale the second one but I figure it was 2.5-3lbs. Thanks for lookin! Cliff
  12. After reading this thread, I realize, I have no other hobbies really. I read I guess, but only on BassResource.com. In the spring I am involved with the boys Little League and we just started Cub Scouts last week, one is just a Tiger so I will be there for all meetings/events. I was a pretty hardcore gamer for a few years, but the only game I liked to play is now outdated and barely supported online anymore. In a fantasy league this year. Man I really need to get some other hobbies for myself!! Cliff
  13. My wife and I do not have any kids of our own, however, about three years ago her brothers two boys came to live with us, and about two years ago we won full legal custody of them. Their parents are required to pay ME child support, however that is not happening. Anyway, the older boy learned quickly after a few butt whoopins, so now he is great for the most part. No scenes in public, does what he is told, and is an A student. He is eight years old. His brother on the other hand is still learning. I can whoop him and he will go and do the same thing he just got whooped for!! But I have made some progress, the whoopins don't work, but take away his time and toys!! If he is bad at school, he gets nothing but sitting in his room with books ONLY!! No TV, no games, etc etc. Going to bed early for misbehaving is another good one for him. He went through a temper tantrum phase, one time in public after a baseball game. Our plan at that point was to just act like he wasn't there. We did and he just screamed and followed us to the car and we went home. That worked wonders, he got zero attention when he was having a tantrum, he did it once more after that and hasn't since. He is six years old and he is doing better in school this year than he did last year. Like I said I don't have any kids, me and my wife just kinda jumped right in and we hope we are doing the right things the right way. I know one thing for sure, they are better off now than they would if they had to be raised by their idiot parents!! Cliff P.S. We are looking into adoption(have both parents agreeing to give up all rights) but the cost of the lawyers and stuff is setting us back right now. Combined, their parents are over $10,000 behind in child support.
  14. I lol'd! ;D Haha It made me think of Raul as a pimp! ;D ;D I did too, however my wife did not. ;D
  15. Currently I am using a 7' Medium Light with a Revo S-L spooled with 10lb CXX. That said, I never throw large deep divers, the ML is rated to 5/8 lures.
  16. I was at Ft. Hood as well when this happened. Was pretty much the same deal. Got to the office and everyone was huddled around the only TV in the building. That was when I first saw any news coverage, it is also when I realized the scope of what just happened. I knew we would be locked down. I acxtually had to drive home andget my gear, they did not call us and tell us before hand to bring it. I believe we stayed on post that day till after midnight. They had to get 100% accountability for every soldier stationed at Ft. Hood. Thats alot of soldiers. I got out of the Army before we deployed anywhere. A day I will never forget. Cliff
  17. I just keep mine in the standard size plano box, 3600 I think it is. I can keep a bunch in it as I can fit several jigs into each little compartment. Trailers can stay on, though they do bend up, but I haven't had a problem with the being deformed or anything.
  18. For me it would be somewhere up north for a combo of big smallies and big pike.
  19. My new rod arrived today. I went with the CXX in 10lb test. I will post back and let you know how I like it. Thanks for all the help! Cliff
  20. I missed the anthem and only watched first half. Peterson got me over 10 points for fantasy league, so that ws good. ;D
  21. I hate the freakin wind. As far as I am concerned it is no help to me. If I can't keep my boat where I want, to catch fish, then what good is it doing me? I don't care if it is 110 degrees or 25 outside, if it is calm, I am fishin!
  22. My very first trip with a depth finder I cut the ducer line as soon as I launched and put the motor down. I solved this problem though. The section of wire that runs down the motor shaft I attached to the very bottom of the shaft and the very top. The loose section inbetween I taped to a piece of copper wire(like you would use to wire your house). This is very stiff and holds its shape. I shaped it in a big arc so it keeps the ducer cable away from the tilting mechanism. Works good.
  23. Place it a few times on every side. ;D
  24. Couple years ago I didn't know much about LMB fishing. I owe everything I know now to this site. I had no one to teach me or anything like that. I moved to Texas and knew I wanted to learn to catch LMB. I did some googling to find some info to get me started and I found BR. I read here everyday, and most days I learn something new.
  25. I have a new rod arriving this week. It is a 7' Medium Light that will be dedicated for cranks, jerkbaits and treble hook topwaters, all smaller baits because it is a ML rod. It will be paired with a Revo S-L. There is possibilities that I could be fishing nearby some wood but not right in the thick of it. What line would you recommend? I use PP on all my other setups. I have used Trilene XT in the past for cranks, I am just wondering if there is a better option. Thanks in advance. Cliff
