  1. $20.00 annual fee for public parks permit. Many “honor” boxes on smaller lakes for like $10-$15.00. Reservoirs are like $45 a day launch fee and yearly only if a resident of the “community “. All the river access ramps are free as well as many public lakes if your willing to travel. The high dollar reservoirs usually are e-coli filled and wouldn’t want to fish them anyway.
  2. Awesome @ButchA Go slay ‘em!
  3. And just to think the forfeiture owner still has to pay the boat loan too! Or bankruptcy, I’m sure.
  4. Mmmmm, kinda. It’s more of a semigloss metallic(ish) flake look. Looks all one color but in direct sun it has a bit of a flake effect. I think it has more to do with the paint as it states it will have an “orange peel” finish, even more-so when applied with a roller. However I did spray it with an automotive setup.
  5. Well, after several months, family health crisis and uncooperative weather I have finally got back to my project Sportspal Canoe. Yesterday I was able to get the Topside top color painting done. It takes 5 days to cure before flipping it over and getting the bottom painted with the super slick Wetlander 3 Part Kit The color is “Sealskin” which is a greenish gray. I like it!
  6. Buddy along with Hendrix and Billy Cox were one of the greatest power trios of all times! Band of Gypsys.
  7. DNR friend told me he has never pulled a dead guy from a lake or river wearing a pfd, the old proverbial “ you can drown in a tea spoon of water” still holds true. It’s a choice……….
  8. Ponds are usually absolutely great for the youngsters. Glad you have a chance to get out.👍🏼
  9. Congratulations on another 7 plus! Beautiful catch. The slow, calm demeanor is almost impossible to maintain. Nicely done.
  10. Awesome job 👍🏼 One suggestion for the metal supports, get a small (1/4 pint) of POR 15. No need to sand and prime as POR is made to be applied to rust directly and encapsulates it to prevent it from “growing”. To ensure longevity just apply a coat or two of rattle can paint over it for UV protection and done! Really liking the set up!
  11. I believe you’re absolutely incorrect in your analysis. The “old school” personalities were know, and followed well before the tv gigs came along and fished Ray Scott’s Bass Master series on all the major lakes and rivers which are still used today for competition. The private lake bass were for tv expediency but they didn’t become legends by fishing private lakes. Many of us followed the series “personalities” before they were even on tv, which only happened after they became successful event winners and popular with the mainstream fishing audience. Although, it was more difficult when following was done by newsletter, magazines, an obscure radio show and attending live events. The sport was built on the shoulders of the old school giants and without the “tv personalities “ KVD would still be fishing the local lakes in Michigan. just my old man take…………….
  12. Never thought of Ray Scott as a fisherman per say but definitely recognized as one of the biggest contributors to the sport 👍🏻
  13. Don’t keep any fish……….. well maybe a few crappie and perch! Bass and pike for sport, panfish for eat’n 🍽️ ok, and walleye 😁
  14. Roland Martin Bill Dance Jimmy Huston Al Linder alternates; Rick Clunn & Hank Parker
  15. I have never hooked the boat to the trailer until it’s out of the water. If you position the trailer so it requires a bit of force to get the boat on the bunks, friction does the rest. sorry, not helpful with your decision
  16. Not quite tackle but the bait monkey got me for a new Bending Branches Solo 2 paddle, on sale of course with Memorial Day discount. Upgraded motor for the canoe!

  18. I guess it’s all perspective. I had my Autopilot loaded and was at the $5k level of investment and it still was a small, slow and uncomfortable rig to fish out of. Sitting is not the way I prefer to fish and 6 to 8 hours in the kayak and my hips were paralyzed! It became such a problem it created bursitis in one hip and I had to sell it. On the other hand the $150 canoe affords enough stability to stand easily and kneeling to paddle is a far better position than sitting. It’s still slow but far less expensive and hurtful. Age makes a huge difference to comfort and longevity.
  19. mmmmmm, probably around a 3. I either wade fish the river/streams with two rods and a sling tackle bag or lake fish in my canoe, one paddle and no electronics with five rods rigged for action and a small Plano bag.

  21. My fishing partner was my ex brother-in-law, until he moved to Michigan. The Wife has gone with me off and on for years but since getting rid of the Ranger she just isn’t comfortable in the smaller Lund or canoe, so I fish alone. Which I enjoy or my mutt tags along.
  22. Greenville, SC! No doubt. We lived there for three years during a construction contract and it was an absolutely awesome place for fishing. So many opportunities, lakes rivers and ponds that are (were) free access. The weather is great, no sales tax, cost of living is low and easy access to the ocean, State Parks, even Atlanta or other big city sports and entertainment. The people are awesome and the country is beautiful. If having the opportunity we would return for sure.
  23. For me it’s rain! Not because I don’t want to get wet but because it blows the river out very quickly. Really messes with a consistent bite. Access would be the next biggest issue. Most lakes are now surrounded by houses and fenced off with the “ramp access” fees skyrocketing, $35/$40 to launch a kayak is absolutely absurd! It's forced me to find the hidden gems out in the country and now takes a bit of traveling but the small lakes, ponds and rivers are there if I look hard enough. And well worth the pursuit. We’re fortunate to have a great DNR and many accessible fishing locations in our State that requires only a $10 yearly access sticker. Just stay off the costly big waters.
  24. Just an opportunity to revive the Hoosier thread. So here it is late Spring in Indiana and not much fishing to be had for me. My canoe project is still underway and the weather has been consistently inconsistent. 70’s one day and 50’s the next, nightly temps in the 40’s, with almost constant rain. It’s been tough to even get the lawn mowed with the crazy weather! I’ve been to the river a few times but nada. Most of the last month, or better it has been blown out from high water. I do know a few folks who have done ok the few times they were able to catch the water down, but I haven’t been that fortunate. And I guess it’s really mostly dependent on where you’re at on the river system. Additionally my Wife has developed a serious health issue and our attention has been pointed in other directions and suddenly fishing doesn’t seem that important. Hopefully a warm summer will develop and the fishing window will open wider for the Hoosier State. Tight lines all!
