  1. Gawd I’ve gotta quit reading this thread!
  2. The combos seem pretty popular. All Shimano and G Loomis,,,,,,,,old Shimano and G Loomis! 4 IMX Rods, 1 GLX, 4 Curado CU200’s and a Spirex 1000 spinner
  3. Never have been a big jerk bait fisherman but being retired I have the time for more Fall/Winter fishing. Not sure if I made the best decision but I have a new spinning set up that hopefully will work out of the canoe; Diawa Tatula 6’ 10” M/XS(F) rod with a Diawa Procyon 2500 reel, 15# Power Pro braid with a 10# floro leader. I haven’t had the opportunity to fish it yet but it should work for hard and soft jerks.
  4. I only own about 16 various set-ups (many thanks to this site) and carry 10 bass rigs in the truck at all times with 2 being creek rods and 3 BFS combos. Going out on a boat I carry 5, usually 3 when in the canoe and 2 when walking creeks or rivers. Could I get by with 1? Yes but what fun is that. Although I do feel,,bothered at times about not using the rigs setting at home.
  5. You’re going to have to build a marina before long 😆 Nice to have options!
  6. Happy Birthday early! With a gift like that I would find some open water and toss a lure around even if it wasn’t real fishing, just to get a feel for it. It’ll be a loonnngggg coooollldddd winter having it sit in the corner all lonesome like starring at you 😁
  7. Spoken like a true Purdue fan 😝
  8. I have a 30 year old 6ft Silstar Lexus graphite that has been my 3/8 -3/4oz spinner bait rod for that period of time. No matter how hard I have tried I just can’t seem to find a replacement that has its accuracy or sensitivity in any modern rod I have tried. All my other rods are GLoomis or St.Croix and none of them has that certain “feel” as the Silstar. Now throw anything other than a spinner blade on it and comparatively it’s a different story.
  9. First fish I ever caught 65 years ago on a cane pole. Haven’t stopped chasing them yet.
  10. @gimruis you definitely can’t call them pretenders, win or lose at O State. It will be “the” test of the season for them but it won’t define their whole season, just like the loss Noter Dame suffered from Northern Illinois. Has their strength of schedule been good, NO but going undefeated in the Big 10 is a major accomplishment. There are few if any teams that are going to beat O State at home this season. IU needs a competitive win (or “quality” loss) to remain near the top and would show the season isn’t a fluke. I think they understand a win and they’re playing for the National Championship.
  11. I believe I’m still right around my peak, strength, desire and ability……but what I have lost at 70 is my “give a da**” I just don’t care anymore about long trips, long hours in the boat or battling non-ideal weather. If it’s not an easy trip to get on the water, to the lake or river, in great weather (for fishing) I’d rather do something else. Agree with @Zcoker theres plenty of life opportunities out there. But I still like fishing,,,,,,a lot and go when I can.
  12. Got the 5’ 6” pistol grip St.Croix creek rod in today. Put on a Shimano SLX BFS XG reel, 10# braid with a 8# fluro leader. Set it up for throwing small moving baits; swim/chatter/spinnerblades. Probably going to go straight braid but the leader was already tied on, so…… It cast easily and accurate! Think I’m gonna like it. edit: Funny thing, I had one twenty five + years ago and never imagined it would be so difficult to find another pistol grip rod nowadays.
  13. Funny thing, I’m not a big Hoosier fan. I am a born and raised Hoosier but Noter Dame is my team, even though I’m a Ball State grad. However I always root for in State Universities and any team playing Ohio State 😝
  14. Yeah, the river has gotten thin on smallies. We had no rain the last two months and with the river so low and now near frost temps nightly they’re pretty scarce. Gonna have to switch up to the lakes, until they get hard.
  15. IU still roll’n, 9-0 I mean 47 points against Michigan State. Could it be,,,,,,,,,nahhh,,,,,,,,maybe GO HOOSIERS
  16. For any Hoosier folks interested in making a rod tube I have a 10 ft section of 8 inch pvc available. They only come in 20 ft lengths so I bit the bullet and bought the whole stick, quite pricey too! Along with the conduit kit you can make a fine rod tube at your choice of length. Anyway, asking $100. for the ten foot, eight inch pvc tube. Can meet anywhere around central Indiana. PM me if any interest
  17. St. Croix Premier Casting Rod been looking for a short creek rod and it is now almost impossible to find a pistol grip rod. This St. Croix is 5’6” med/fast, 8-14# line and 1/4-5/8. Looking forward to putting it to use,,,,,,soon.
  18. I have three pre-rigged at go time; a top water (ChopO/buzz/popper), a mid water column bait (spinner/chatter/swim) and a bottom dragger (usually a worm/jig) depending on where I’m fishing determines which specific bait to start with. Two other rods in the boat waiting their turn to get rigged for a more narrow focus and always one drop shot spinner rod set up. I like to have follow up baits ready to throw when I miss one, another reason for my “water column “ strategy. Lake depth, clarity and cover usually determines which are my starters, all season dependent.
  19. Any Hoosier folks going to fish the GRBY series next year ? They allow canoes as well as kayaks so I’m planning on one of the lake series and maybe a river event or two. Fished in my Oldtown AP last year in a regional series but only one river event as several of the events were canceled due to blow out conditions. It’s a really fun series with plenty of options and being able to fish on your own schedule is great. Anyone interested or planning on entering give a shout, be nice to have a partner on the lake.
  20. Seems to be much easier in States whee boats an boating are more common.
  21. I hear you! I sold my Old Town AP and got my 1994 13-S because it was more stable, wider and way more comfortable to stand in, not to mention thousands cheaper. I just added a 55# thrust trolling motor which is an improvement over the AP 45# and the room to move around or bring extra gear far surpasses the AP space availability. Just got a trailer (a 1956 Tee-Nee getting powered coated) which will be great for tournament events. Really pleased with mine too.
  22. Awesome, another SportsPal! What model is yours? Looks to be a square stern, maybe 11/12 foot?
