  2. My fishing partner was my ex brother-in-law, until he moved to Michigan. The Wife has gone with me off and on for years but since getting rid of the Ranger she just isn’t comfortable in the smaller Lund or canoe, so I fish alone. Which I enjoy or my mutt tags along.
  3. Greenville, SC! No doubt. We lived there for three years during a construction contract and it was an absolutely awesome place for fishing. So many opportunities, lakes rivers and ponds that are (were) free access. The weather is great, no sales tax, cost of living is low and easy access to the ocean, State Parks, even Atlanta or other big city sports and entertainment. The people are awesome and the country is beautiful. If having the opportunity we would return for sure.
  4. For me it’s rain! Not because I don’t want to get wet but because it blows the river out very quickly. Really messes with a consistent bite. Access would be the next biggest issue. Most lakes are now surrounded by houses and fenced off with the “ramp access” fees skyrocketing, $35/$40 to launch a kayak is absolutely absurd! It's forced me to find the hidden gems out in the country and now takes a bit of traveling but the small lakes, ponds and rivers are there if I look hard enough. And well worth the pursuit. We’re fortunate to have a great DNR and many accessible fishing locations in our State that requires only a $10 yearly access sticker. Just stay off the costly big waters.
  5. Just an opportunity to revive the Hoosier thread. So here it is late Spring in Indiana and not much fishing to be had for me. My canoe project is still underway and the weather has been consistently inconsistent. 70’s one day and 50’s the next, nightly temps in the 40’s, with almost constant rain. It’s been tough to even get the lawn mowed with the crazy weather! I’ve been to the river a few times but nada. Most of the last month, or better it has been blown out from high water. I do know a few folks who have done ok the few times they were able to catch the water down, but I haven’t been that fortunate. And I guess it’s really mostly dependent on where you’re at on the river system. Additionally my Wife has developed a serious health issue and our attention has been pointed in other directions and suddenly fishing doesn’t seem that important. Hopefully a warm summer will develop and the fishing window will open wider for the Hoosier State. Tight lines all!
  6. No suggestions, never heard of a pivot drive. But I like it! Great project 👍🏼
  7. I went with the 2” on the back only. Worked fine.
  8. I’m new to swim baits too and bought this 2.0 135 yellow perch as my first foray into hard swim baits. Haven’t had an opportunity to put it to use but I really like the size and feel on my 7’ Heavy/Fast Loomis rod using 40# Power Pro braid on a Shimano Curado 6:3-1 reel. Theres several videos on Youtube of this bait in use.
  9. On my three BFS reels, Curado SLX, I use 10# Power Pro and a 3’ fluro leader on the worm rig only. When filling a spool completely full while running it through a wet towel, cleaning the line as well as applying tension and guiding it to assure an even wrap as possible. Haven’t had any issues ,,,but then again haven’t caught anything much over a couple pounds on the bfs rigs so not sure what a 6 pounder would do. But pretty confident with proper drag it will work out fine.
  10. Love my old IMX rods so found this on ALF for a great price! Couldn’t resist…. G. Loomis GLX 804C MH/F 6’ 8” JWR Used Casting Rod - Mint Condition
  11. There’s only so much of a market share for $60/70k boats available. Something has to give.
  12. For GLoomis, get a MBR in desired length and power. They’ll throw anything in your tackle box.
  13. Sorry I’m sure it’s a “brother-in-law” deal
  14. True story, he completely gutted his ‘04 16’ Pro V Angler, replaced all the wood, carpet, new stereo and seats. Almost finished it before he left town for a year, while it sat outdoors with a cheap tarp over it,,,,in Michigan. By the time he had gotten back to it the tarp was trashed and the boat full of water,,,sitting for several months destroying the whole interior. He moved to a new place a parked the Lund and the pontoon boat (same story only the rebuild was two years old) in the yard where they have sat now for going on three years! Of course the 90hp motor on the Lund has been sitting for just as long and would need gone through also. I have no desire to rebuild either. Even for free!
  15. 😲 I’ve got line older than you are!
  16. I hear you @Koz I went all in with my Autopilot 120 as well and really liked it but never loved it as I found it cumbersome, slow and uncomfortable. I decided to move down instead of up. Having had several bass boats, V bottom Trackers and jon boats I thought the AP would be “the” answer. It wasn’t. Before getting in too deep financially I sold it, mainly to the hip issue it created from the restrictive seat position. After several months, steroids and therapy I decided on a canoe which shouldn’t create the same issues and definitely way less expensive, even with a 2.5hp outboard. Hopefully the health issues have been addressed and the seating position is much more forgiving and standing is way easier and confident. I was pretty shaky standing in the AP for any amount of time and the Sportspal is much more stable due to the wide flat floor. My brother-in-law is trying to GIVE me a 16’ Lund and/or a 20’ pontoon boat but I want nothing to do with either. I’m over boat maintenance, license plates and insurance cost associated with a full size boat. I can carry a 2.5hp motor, use as needed or paddle the canoe when out leisurely fishing with minimal cost and hassle. At most a trailer would be useful but the canoe is 57# and fits on my truck. You have trailer already so you’re ahead of the game. Is it the end all/do all? No but a better option (for me) with less hassle and frustration and less expenses. Oh, it’s a Sportspal 13’ square stern I found for $150.oo. Still in the process of refurbishing but should be done soon and it will get me on the water, both lakes and rivers, with or without power. And I can carry a passenger. A good compromise.
  17. I carry crappie jigs with my BFS gear which works great. Beetle spin Roadrunner Mr. Twister curly tail on a 1/32 or 1/16 jig head under a float
  18. I love me some crappie and perch! Usually only fish large and small mouth but spend plenty of time on the “bobber fish”. Have absolutely no use for catfish or pike, both nuisance fish to me and detest catching either. Walleye, I can get with them ‘cause they be tasty 😋

  20. New Series 200 Kistler to use as my spinnerbait reel
  21. Fish don’t know the difference between this rig or an Ugly Stik and Zebco spincast. If you have the money and like it, buy it. I like it!
  22. Any experience with the McCoy brand. I’ve read great reviews, supposed to be low stretch, super limp and easy to tie knots. (kinda like me) 😝 Seriously, I haven’t used a non braid in many years and prefer to spool this new reel with a co-polymer but not ruling out a flro. Would a fluro be a better option for a jig setup? Is there a downfall to using a co-polymer line, other than stretch? Guess I better search “lines”
  23. I really like the 100 series reel although a bit of a bfs feel to it with better line capacity. It throws a 1/4oz spinnerbait very well, but feels small in my hand. I thought it would be a too “light” for the KLX 4M rod but it hasn’t been a problem. The reel’s fast adjustability is great and is very smooth casting and cranking. The new series 200 I’m putting on my 7’ GLoomis IMX MBR H/F for throwing jigs, shakey heads and bigger texas rigged worms. I like the MBR rods as they can throw several baits and not just one specific presentation well. My other “greenies” are on GLoomis IMX MBR rods as well; M/F, MH/F and a CBR/F. The baitmonkey rode me until I relented on the new reel. If I like it I’ll probably replace the other 3 with the same. Good call on the line, I’ve been eyeing the Sunline. I have McCoy Mean Green(12#) and Crystal Clear(15#) but haven’t used mono/co-ploymer in forever being all my reels are set up with Power Pro braid. The coil in non braid lines drives me crazy!
