I'm with you. As long as it's done legally, I don't have a problem with it. I don't sink brush, but I could if I wanted to and so could anyone else. It doesn't create an unfair advantage if everyone is allowed to do it.

X2 I had a David Fritts reel and I really liked it. It would cast a mile and it made cranking a DD22 feel like reeling in slack line.

If it were me, I'd get the Power Pole. You already have quality electronics.

The Rapala knot is useful for when using crankbaits and jerkbaits without a split ring because tying directly to the eyelet restricts the lures action. If you're bait has a split ring, the Rapala knot use pointless.

good for baits 1/2 oz. and up , if you pratice alot , maybe 3/8 oz. , maybe ... I keep hearing the same thing, but I haven't had any problem throwing lighter crankbaits on mine. Just yesterday I was throwing a 5/16 oz Shad Rap SR7 with ease. Of course I'm not getting the same distance as I would with a DD22, but it still got the job done.

I'm surprised by all the negative comments about these things. I spend a lot of time fishing crankbaits and my lure is almost always in contact with something. I like to fish them so that they're just touching the bottom or the top of the grass. I am convinced that the majority of my hangups are caused by that belly hook. I'm not saying that they're going to be the next great thing, but they are worth trying. Coonedawg, why do you think they look cheaply made?

I have two crankbait rods. One is equiped with a Revo Winch and is primarily used for deep cranking. The other is outfitted with a Revo S and I mainly use it for shallow and lipless crankbaits. But if I know that I'm going to fish shallow, I will not hesitate to tie a shallow crank on one rod and a lipless on the other. If my plan is to fish deep, I will tie a deep crankbait on both. What I'm trying to say is, don't get too hung up on gear ratio. You bought yourself a good reel. That combo you mentioned will work just fine for either application.

I wouldn't say that you messed up. The Revo Winch is a very nice reel and will serve you well. Yes, slower ratio reels are often associated with deep cranking, but that doesn't mean they won't work for shallow cranking as well. You may have to adjust how fast you turn the handle if you're wanting to burn lipless crankbaits, but that's too easy. Good luck and enjoy that new reel!

Much better! I owned a Megaforce when they first came out. I didn't have the problems that Stasher1 had, but I just didn't like it. I would stay away from the Black Max because of the reviews I've read here. I think if I had to choose from your list, I'd go with the Pinnacle Slyder only because they are new and I haven't heard anything bad about them yet.

I just opened up the new Bassmaster magazine and there is an article that talks about travel rods. St Croix offers two different travel rods. The Premier is 3 or 4 piece spinning rods that sell for about $160. The Triumph is 4 piece spinning rods for about $100. I thought this may interest you since you were looking for an Avid.

I have two Browning Safari travel rods that I really like. One is a three piece, 7' MH/F baitcaster and the other is a four piece 6' L/F spinning rod. Both rods have performed well for me. BPS has a large selection of these rods and I'm sure you could find one you like. They sell for around $100.

I would recommend one of those Roland Martin Rocket rods for that lure.

This keeps coming up lately. I'm guessing that he's refering to the newer, low profile Black Max. The old round one is a nice reel worth trying to work on. From what I've heard, the new ones are not.

I would go with the Sedona. I have had two Sedona 4000s. One of them for over ten years. When I finally upgraded to a higher end reel, I gave the old Sedona to a friend who is still using it. I also have a Sedona 1000 on my trout rod. I've only used it twice, but it seems to be just as high quality as the 4000s and I expect it to last just as long.

I agree. BPS Crankin' Sticks are real good rods for the price.
