  1. He might have just sunk his chances at the Elite series, which is what I've been watching all these Opens for ?
  2. Wire to wire Braves win the NL East tonight Hope they catch the magic in October, the offense has ensured it being one of the most exciting Braves teams to watch in a long time.
  3. That's generally going to be a Panfishing setup....smaller fish like Bream, and Crappie. For those applications 6-8lb monofilament line will work perfectly fine. A Panfishing kit, or buying some livebait like Crickets, Nightcrawlers, or Minnows would go well with that setup. If you're going to be Bass fishing, I'd think about getting a heavier duty rod/reel setup. Something that can handle bigger lines, lure weights, and fish.
  4. No, I try to limit the trauma I cause to the fish, slamming my hand against the hook and fish is the opposite of that.
  5. Great job this season Katie on the big ones, and you still have the Fall to go!
  6. Almost 5.5 months later and Olson is still on STRAIGHT FIRE......tying the Braves all time single season HR record of 51 with Andruw Jones. Awesome to see a humble, NATURAL player achieve such an accomplishment. Edit.....Acuna goes deep for number 37. 30/60 season club was special, but 40/70 will be one for the ages and record books.
  7. Some here might be too young to remember, a pair of French brothers were embedded with the FDNY that day shooting a documentary, this resulted in them capturing the most chilling and accurate account of what happened at the Towers.
  8. Personally speaking, I remember America in terms of pre 9/11 and post 9/11. Everything changed on that day, those who were too young can't imagine a pre 9/11 America. Very sad day for America, and those who love it.
  9. Man that PNW Kush must be significantly different than Alabama Super Skunk....it just makes people here listen to Widespread Panic, and mumble something about 2 for 3 grillcheeses ?
  10. Continuing to pursue a hobby/sport where luck plays such a huge role in both your successes and failures. I got big into poker in the early 2000s, but eventually quit because regardless of how good your technical ability was, luck always accounts for a huge percentage of the outcomes. Access like 99% of other Bass anglers.......I can't fish OH Ivie, Baccarac, Toledo Bend, or places that produce 13lb+ fish 150-200 days a year. My limitations are luck and access, I can control or learn everything else.....so can everybody else in this thread.
  11. I want to see a derby in Japan and South Africa as well.......have like the top 25 Elite Series guys ending the season do a "World Classic" where 25 Elite Series guys + 25 home country anglers all compete in a 50 angler field in a non US country that has a strong Bass culture. I think Italy has Bass anglers if I'm not mistaken.....we need to bucket biology some of these bad boys across the globe ?
  12. 100%.....when in doubt replace or retie when it comes to knots or line. It's not only for practical reasons, but for mental and confidence reasons....once I have it in my head something is flawed, boom it's cursed. You spend all that time trying to catch the fish of a lifetime, why chance it over a spool of line is the way I see it. I'm already pot committed though ?
  13. They sprayed heavily up until the last few years, but the lake has really turned around since then. It's one of the best lakes in Alabama now according to B.A.I.T numbers and 5lb/per hour fished rate. This also reflects what friends who have fished it this past year or two have reported.
  14. Wheeler is on the upswing big time, bit disappointed by the results at the BASS Open earlier this year, but I think it's only going to get better if they let the grass keep growing. Still took 20lbs a day to win.
  15. The pros seem to prefer grinder events, most say the pressure cranks up on the big fish factories......they know the big bags are there, and if they aren't catching them they realize early on they're toast. Personally, I'm all about the Century Club derbies, I can't even imagine what's going to go down at Toledo Bend, and Fork. Smith Lake will be a fun derby and a bit of a grinder.
  16. I about blew a gasket when Christie weighed in that fish......incredible! Catching it on a Fairy Wand in heavy veg made it all the more epic.....action starts around 4:40
  17. Congrats Katie, that's a real accomplishment. The ability to catch 15-20lb bags consistently and do so on diverse bodies of water is the hallmark of a professional Bass angler in my book. I don't think it's a coincidence that I've almost never hit a 5-20lb bag junk fishing. On the other hand when I figure out a really good pattern, and start fine tuning, I can get multiple 20lb+ bags in a week. Again this goes back to professional Bass anglers, and their ability to almost always "pattern" the fish, and then dial in from there to find the quality 3-5lb fish. I didn't start getting 20lbs until I started selling out to patterns, and dialing them in. The Blue Supermoon was my last at 5-23.5. The night before I should of had 25+ but decided to not net a 5+ at the boat and lost it. Still ended with 20.5, which made the rare occasion of getting back to back 20lb sessions........now imagine doing that 4x in a row, and making it average 25lbs......and then you can get a Century Club belt ?
  18. I was thinking about Butch and the S. Cali guys last night. What if Butch didn't grow up during and besides the "Gold Rush" of big Bass fishing, would he still seek out big Bass if they were only 7-12lb fish? WRB is one of the only guys who didn't take advantage of the very unique Trout situation in regard to the trophy sized Bass during the heyday. Something should be said about a guy who doesn't Trout Chunk or toss baits that look exactly like Trouts. I doubt we'll ever see a situation like the heyday of SCal......small lakes, copious Trout stockings, perfect big fish growing conditions, water levels play nice. A huge part of that "Big fish something" is living near big fish. Access to big fish is the great gate keeper in this sport.
  19. B.A.S.S. announces 2024 Elite schedule with nine events in six states - Bassmaster First stop is at Toledo Bend, will be absolutely epic. Second stop is Lake Fork, likely gonna be another awesome big fish event. Smith Lake is gonna be a blast, and I'll be able to attend the event. Overall very happy about the schedule. 2024 Bassmaster Elite Series Schedule Feb. 22-25, Many, La., Toledo Bend Reservoir Feb. 29-March 3, Yantis, Texas, Lake Fork March 22-24, Bassmaster Classic, Tulsa, Okla., Grand Lake O’ the Cherokees April 11-14, Leesburg, Fla., Harris Chain of Lakes April 18-21, Palatka, Fla., St. Johns River May 9-12, Columbia, S.C., Lake Murray June 13-16, Decatur, Ala., Wheeler Lake June 27-30, Cullman, Ala., Smith Lake Aug. 8-11, Plattsburgh, N.Y., Lake Champlain Aug. 15-18, Waddington, N.Y., St. Lawrence River
  20. Yeah it's just putrefied egg product and a few spices like Thyme and Rosemary IIrc. There is another great product called Plantskydd.....made from dried blood, completely safe as well, and works even better than Liquid Fence, however it's more expensive, and usually have to order it if you don't have lots of garden stores around. Liquid / Pre-Mixed Archives - Plantskydd : Plantskydd The Liquid Fence smells like death until it dries, so there is that ?
  21. Liquid Fence which is commonly avail. at places like Lowes works really well, you just have to spray it weekly or every couple of weeks.
  22. Deer feed off of hard work, they've destroyed lots of beautiful plants and money of mine. Hostas are like caviar to them lol. I waged a two year war trying to find products, but eventually the work and expense of doing so was too much, and I've lost the war against them.
  23. This is the easy button for a normal size rig.....and they come with Scottsboro swimbaits which are amazing. So much bang for your buck, and everything you need in one kit. Yum Scottsboro Flash Mob Jr Kits - Tackle Warehouse Sometimes however the fish want a finesse A-Rig, and that's when I throw a Picasso Finesse Bait Ball rig Picasso Bait Ball Finesse Umbrella Rigs - Tackle Warehouse I like the smallest Scottsboro Tackle/Yum or 3.25 Rage Swimmers on Strikeking Squadron Jr heads. I run 1/8th and 5 hooks because I'm in Alabama.
  24. They disappointed me and find standard wire EWG Gamas to be the best. I can't find a better hook than the Gama standard EWG one, tried lots.
  25. I don't tinker, and I fished over 250 days since Aug '22 ? You're comparing your $1000 electric outboard kayak motor to a run of the mill $200 50lb Endura TM with a $4 R/C prop. Is 2mph worth $796 more to you? Eventually you realize on forums it's just easier to not share, maybe the mods can change the title to "which line for chatter cricket widget"
