  1. I'd believe that for sure. There is another fact about how many spiders people unknowingly eat during their lifetimes too
  2. Now imagine how frustrating it is for somebody who has been fishing for Bass for 25yrs like myself ? Take comfort in the fact that everybody who has weighed in on this thread shares those same frustrations. Nobody has the answers to the really important questions we want to find out, and until then we're all left to our own theories, and experiences being on the water.
  3. Lmao, this is exactly what I fell alseep to last night thinking about. I was thinking why some rich Bass fisherman if nothing else hasn't funded a huge study on LGM Bass movement. Hard to believe these major studies haven't been done on a wide scale. They've been done for Billfish extensively, Killer Whales and Great Whites as well.....if they can do it with those Mammals, and Fish, they can do it with Bass surely. This was two days ago off the main lake channel as you alluded to.......millions of threadfins that will be in a totally different place in a hour, a day, and week from then. I know next to nothing on the mysteries of how far, why, and when Bass travel outside of the seasonal and spawn stuff. The level of knowledge yet to be uncovered is massive in this area. This time of year for example at least on the Coosa impoundments, the big Alabama Bass (5lb+ fish) move into the feeder creeks off the main lake channel. They suspend in the middle of these creeks right above where all the fallen leaves sink to. In just a single little feeder creek that is maybe 100yd deep by 50yd wide you can catch several trophy Spots. These fish are ambushing baitfish above them, and are using the leaves to hide in. We use big Rattling Rouges with suspend dots on them to reach the correct depth. The only reason I know this is because of former Bassmaster Classic runner up Dalton Bobo showed me it. He had figured this pattern of movement out long before FFS/livescope or Side imaging.
  4. Excellent. The reviews and price point looks like this is gonna be the rod for me. __________________________________________________ As good as this rod is for chatterbaits, it really excels for spinnerbaits especially when the lure gets slammed. Serviceable as a mid-depth crank bait rod too. Versatile beyond bladed jigs... Excellent, I was really hoping this new setup could perform double or triple duties until I can buy a cranking rod. Got the reel last night, will be ordering this rod asap. Really appreciate all the excellent help in this thread from you guys!
  5. Out of likes, but I really enjoyed reading your report! Great job buddy, and congrats on the win! Yeah there is always that calculation that goes on right before you get the fish close to boat....."do I grab the net now and try for it". Luckily once I have the net in the hand, the vast majority of the time their getting caught.
  6. Dang these emojis being limited haha. Thanks brother! I mean $233 for a reel that would cost me about $375 locally or online is a screaming deal. I need a new spinning reel, and my mind is already saying "better take advantage of those spectacular currency exchange rates"......dang you all ? Very excited, and really appreciate all the help I've received.
  7. Reading this thread makes me feel so much better about feeling petty when I see just another single fisherman on the lake, as I do respect my fellow angler, but solitude is as important to me as fishing these days. I go fishing as much to avoid humans as I do catch fish these days seriously. On the water is the last place you want to have to deal with fellow humans. The Reel Ess said " I'm just selfish like that"......that perfectly describes how I feel when I see another angler on my home lake. At least I know I'm wrong for feeling that way, and that it doesn't really bother me outside of bringing about petty thoughts.
  8. Out of likes still, but another exceptional trip. Way to go Katie, and I bet you are tired after those two trips. Do you have a net? To me a net, a scale, and a camera are as important as remembering to bring my poles. I've had something like that almost happen.....where the lures pulls right besides the boat, and it goes flying into my chest or worst back at my face. Some people call that "quick release" as well ?
  9. Out of reactions for the day.....dang you internetz. You have night fishing, and then everything else in my book. I'll never stop believing as well that the big fish bite the most after the sun goes down. I love everything about night fishing!!!!
  10. I think for just a little more you could have a Zillion SV TW 1000P that has a 5.5 ratio. $230 right now from Digitaka.
  11. While correct, the much bigger concern is they can mess up otherwise healthy and beautiful turf grass looking for turf grubs ? I assume you won't eat an Armadillo ? An average angler spends $1,261 on fishing each year. Anglers spend almost $300 million a year just on ice to preserve fishes longer. One million Americans spend an average of 17 days fishing.
  12. Welp, it's official I just finished ordering the Zillion SV TW 1000 from Digitaka. The tacklemonkey is not a singular thing, it's a collective group of wallet draining vampires known as the Bassresource membership base.......In a million years I would have never found out about taking advantage of buying through JDM. Haven't gotten a new reel in about 15 years.....the first model Steez BFS rod/reel was the last big reel or rod I bought. That along with a Shimano Calais are the two most tech advanced reels I own. Hard to imagine a reel getting better than those. I hope this new reel doesn't make my older reels feel their age. It will be interesting to see how far reels have come in 15 years. I didn't have currency exchange rates on "why I must buy a new reel" bingo card sadly though ? Thanks to everyone who helped earlier in all seriousness, I feel like I scored a fantastic product for an unbeatable price. I have this place to thank for that!
  13. Wow, both numbers and hawgs.....call me jelly! I'd love to know what the bottom one weighed, that's a big looking fish!
  14. Beautiful, and I'm impressed
  15. Yeah I love the fat ones, but I'm not fishing super clear waters. The bulk presents a bigger profile which I like. Hard to go wrong with anything in their 6 or 7" lineup
  16. Yeah I prefer to use an EWG anytime I can, and 3/0 with a 6" Roboworm will be fine. In the future a 2/0 might be better, as I use the 3/0 on 7" Roboworms. I just catch more fish on EWGs, so whether or not I get bite a little less on them doesn't matter. When I say Shakey head or T-Rig, I just mean a weighted, and weedless rigged Roboworm. A shakey head is like you say a jig of sorts....connected weight and hook, but more importantly many are shaped where a handpoured worm like a Roboworm will stand almost straight up and down the water, where just a small twitch allows you to shake that worm in a super life like manner. A 1/8th tungsten bullet weight with a 2/0 or 3/0 EWG and 6" Roboworm is what I would go with if I didn't use some form of a shakey head. A disconnected weighted T-Rig is more prone to hang ups and such, so many "peg" them with a toothpick depending on the area you are fishing them in. To me a weighted T rigged Roboworm is the easiest way to catch Bass across all the vast, and different waters they inhabit.
  17. Fantastic job! Fish those Roboworms on T-Rig or Shakey Head. I tell folks just starting out to do nothing but reel as slowly as they can, occasionally twitching the worm. Slower the better. Let the beautiful action of that handpour worm do it's magic. Congrats, keep up the great work
  18. Absolutely......I was a diehard Basshead for the first 25 years of my life, but then life got in the way and I took a decade + off, I come back and I was absolutely STUNNED by how much Bass fishing has grown. Tourneys, schools, incredible amounts of new tackle, everything has progressed at a lightyear pace. I didn't even know what JDM was until a few weeks ago. Now I'm about to order a reel direct from Japan because of favorable exchange rates, and a Bass fishing forum educating me on the whole deal. 15 years ago it was pay the prices your local store had or pound sand. I was ordering Roboworms out of a mail order catalog. My how things and time fly.
  19. Excellent. The reviews and price point looks like this is gonna be the rod for me.
  20. I'm using either Pline Fluoroclear 15lb, or Pline 15lb Ultimate Fluorocarbon
  21. They seem to be OOS on that model, but my local store carries St Croix so I'll see if they have it. Must be popular as it and only one other rod model are OOS. Appreciate the link! I've been using them on Loomis GLX Mag Bass MH Fast Action 6'6 rods. There just doesn't seem to be enough "forgiveness" in perhaps the tip to compensate what is likely a bad habit from myself. I seem to pull these baits before I have a chance to hook them. That's what led me down the rabbit hole of finding an optimal solution for this bait. It's the only other bait besides a JWR type that I feel deserves an optimal rod/reel.
  22. Awesome info, better than the dang sales guy lol. It would have been nice if he'd have explained that out like you did. Makes more sense. The part about keeping fish pinned, and being forgiving is why I'm likely going to grab this rod. Been a primary bottom contact fisherman, thusly I'm quick on the trigger, and set hooks quite hard, and all my current rods are geared towards this. I miss a lot of fish on the chatterbait, and I think it's because I'm too fast, or hard on the hookset. I rarely lose them, but getting them pinned seems way more problematic than it should be on an optimal setup.
  23. Thanks, the Paypal thing was a question I had. Figured they try to collect tax.
  24. Right back at ya Katie, nice to have a community of such likeminded folks. Makes a crazy world seem a little less crazy. It's hard for non fisherman to understand why we fish, kind of sucks not being able to share such awesome moments of your life with family and friends.
  25. Awesome, and thank you guys for the info! Yeah TW still gets on the tackle stuff, but wow the reels are a no brainer.
