  1. Curious if anyone has any ideas or guesses when the new Lowrance Pro head units or active target 2 units might be available for purchase. Working on picking up what I can for my new kayak now before the spring rush hits. Thanks, Joe
  2. Interesting, this kind of fits with what I've been thinking in my head. I'm getting back into bass fishing and just picked up a kayak and am planning on outfitting it with a full complement of sonar - down, side, and forward facing real time. I understand there are varying opinions and I subscribe to each their own. In my head, I think it'll be useful to help find fish, sort of like scouting for game on land. I'll still have to figure out how to cast to them and how to get them to bite. I'm thinking it'll be a a great way to learn the bass behavior in my local ponds and reservoirs and am looking forward to it. I see it as a useful learning tool. We'll see how it goes.
  3. Added on edit - Whoops, just realized I was browsing way back in this tab and resurrected a really old thread. Didn't mean to, thought I was replying to a current thread. I don't see a delete option. 2000, wow, it's gone up. I got my Cordoba (field version) for 1300 in the early 2000s after I got divorced from wife #1. It is my trap, sporting clays, pheasant, get the hell out of my yard, etc....shotgun. That said, I prefer an old side by side for grouse, but I used the Cordoba in the MT mountains for grouse to the amusement of others (they all use 22 rifles and shoot them on the ground out there, godless heathens!) I'm getting back into bass fishing these days. I tend to buy the best I can reasonably afford at the time and then hold onto it forever. The rods I lost this summer were 25 plus year old Cabelas Fish Eagle XMLs. At the time of purchase they were solid quality for a reasonable for me price. The Shimano Sustains I had on them are still going strong (lost just the rods, not the reels). This go around, yeah, there will be some NRX+ and Conquest Rods along with a Stella and an Antares or three. These will be my rods and reels for the next 20+ years. I still have and use my Cabelas clothing gear from 20 and 30+ years and am saddened that it is no longer made. No shiny bass boat for me, but I did just buy a Hobie Pro Angler and it'll have the best electronics I can afford on it. Technology and tinkering are a part of most of my hobbies and I greatly enjoy it. Do I need much of this? Nope. But I get enjoyment from using it.
  4. Hooded, pretty much always have one on once temps get in the low 40s. Picked up small ties at Walmart, wrap them 4x, my pony tail stays put. My glasses on the other hand, sucks when I forget to take them off first. Have a Carhartt heavy, Carhartt rain deal, and a few older Columbias. Wife is tired of seeing the same few in daily rotation and wants me to get some new ones. Been searching, trying to find some with minimal to no branding. Little logo on left chest is OK, across whole front/back/entire sleeve, nope. Can get new versions of the same Columbias I have, Simms had one or two I liked the looks of, and LL Bean seems to have a contender too.
  5. Thanks! It's good to be back for the family and the food selection. I went up and paid for my 2022 Hobie Pro Angler today. Decided it would be too much of a PITA to put it up on the roof of my brother's Navigator. I'll go pick it up next week when my pickup is out of the body shop (got hit/sideswiped down in Alabama this summer). Everything takes longer these days, it's been in the shop for 2 months now. Anyways, I'll drop you a line when I have the kayak in my possession.
  6. I am heading out next week to pick up my Hobie Pro Angler 14. Going to snag the 2022 model before the prices go up for 2023. Multiple shops and my research say there aren't any changes for 2023 other than the price increase. If anyone has heard or knows any different, let me know. Then I'll add the Motor guide Xi3 kayak 36" trolling motor and a good 100+ ah lithium battery. Probably pick those up around same time as I found the motor in stock. Don't want to wait till spring and run into shortages. Then I'll be waiting for the new Lowrance active target 2 electronics to be released and will try to snag that and another lithium ion battery for the electronics.
  7. Lobster forks?! Bah! A skilled lobster consumer can do it all neatly with their bare hands. Well maybe a shell cracker.... I never understood the folks who get riled up by forum posts. Just do the silent uh huh OK in my head and move on. I personally love forums, particularly ones populated with a good mix of experienced and adventurous folks like this one is. The knowledge and experiences shared on forums, in a somewhat organized and searchable format is invaluable. When I ordered my first new diesel pickup in 1999, without the old Ford-diesel forum, I would have innocently driven it off the lot and been blithely unaware of all that I was missing. Thanks to that forum, shortly after delivery, it went to the 4x4 shop and had the right bedliner sprayed in, Excursion heated tow mirrors controlled by an Explorer defrost switch installed, a CR Lawrence power sliding rear window, air horns, propane injection, etc... Think it was another 10k bill. Ahhh, then there was rimfire central a few years later, custom 10/22 builds, learned about Volquartsen 17HMR and WSM semi autos, Kidd 2 stage triggers, and the gophers forever lived in fear. It was and still is glorious. We won't get into how much I've spent lately and have planned for the near future based on just this forum alone. I use forums to learn from folks who have been there and done that and am enjoying myself that much more as a result. I enjoy sharing what I've learned and maybe being able to help someone else out in some small way as well. I am humbly thankful for the depth and breadth of knowledge shared here. Now I'm off to continue digging through old tackle posts, I'm somewhere on page 149 I think...
  8. Not sure how it works everywhere, but both my parents retired from teaching (elementary school) in the early 2000s and it was paid for the school year with the option to spread paychecks out over 12 months. I think it's a common misconception that they're "paid" to not work over the summer/breaks, etc... That said, in the state of NJ the teachers union was pretty good to them and they made out alright. I hope to retire and fish, hunt, and shoot all the time, but sometimes feel like I'll never get to retire. That said, I've worked 'from home' for the past 6 years and will never go back into an office. I have done calls streamside or in the field and will continue to do so. I default to double muted unless I'm speaking. Company is great with work life balance and as a salaried professional (network security) it's about the job being done well on time and satisfied customers. I have starlink, t-mobile 5g home internet, a dually, and a 40ft fifth wheel - have internet throughout North America, will travel. Alas currently taking care of elderly parents, so travel is limited for now.
  9. Very Merry Christmas for you!! I was thinking of doing a photo spread like that when my final PF order arrived later this week, but you did yours so well, I don't think I can compete. I'm kind of wishing I had picked up some line, that's one area I didn't venture in to. Good luck with it all and hope the new stuff works very well for you.
  10. Lure Lock is running an automatic 40% off (once in your cart) site wide on everything. I came across mention of them last night perusing old threads and did some research. They have a durable no residue sticky pad on the bottom of their tackle organizers that holds things in place. They also sell rectangular sticky pads. Several legit reviews were positive around the web. I was interested initially in the pads to stick on my desk and vehicle dashboards and also picked up a few organizers to try out. Combined with rubber bands over the trebles (another tip I picked up perusing old posts) seems like it could be quite efficient for storage if you like everything laid out flat and organized and not tossed in on top of each other. For me at least the 6 codes I had for Pure Fishing are no longer working. I just went through them all with new unique email addresses and none of them worked. I haven't found any other codes as of yet. It was an exercise in curiosity, I think I bought just about everything I even remotely wanted over the past 2 weeks and then some.
  11. Cue the spooky background music, resurrecting this thread from the graveyard. Should have found it and done this back around Halloween. Grew up in NJ, wandered West for many years and now find myself back here in Middlesex county taking care of elderly parents. Do a lot of stream trout fishing, decided I wanted to get back into bass fishing too to mix it up. Went out a few times this summer with a friend and canoe to Round Valley and Assunpink. I'm in the process of redoing my bass gear and acquiring a kayak and am looking forward to getting out and doing more bass fishing in 2023. I have read through this entire thread and am grateful for the many suggestions of places to check out.
  12. Would that be the airbraid silky version? I tried the airbraid razor on ultra light trout rigs (3lb and 5lb), but think the true to rating break rating was just a little to light for me, had a hard time with knot strength and knot slippage. Ended up with Sufix 131 6lb that has been working ok. Have been considering the higher tests airbraid silky for bass rigs (spinning and baitcasting).
  13. I think you may have had to add the spool to your cart. I was playing around with other combo deals similar to that the other day and the discount/free showed up when I added the item to the cart. I didn't do that on my original reel orders and also did NOT get any free spools of line. And I picked up 2 of the Zenon reels a few orders back. Haven't used them and not much in the way of hands on reviews to be found, but I figured for the price, I'd give them a try. Specifically, the ZENON MG-LTX-Low may meet your needs. Doesn't show up when browsing for me but if you search for Zenon it shows up and is still in stock.
  14. I have plans for some NRX+ and Conquest rods. I'm redoing my rods since I lost 3 out of the back of the truck this summer and those and what I have left were all from 20+ years ago. I was getting 3 or 4 core rods, but when I came across this deal originally, I splurged and in my first 2 orders picked up Zenon baitcasting rods and reels to fill in the selection. Picked up the medium light and the medium heavy along with the Zenon reels - the MG-LTX for the medium light and the MG-X for the medium heavy. They weren't on my radar but for the price, I figured I couldn't lose. I've since researched the rods and reels and haven't found a whole lot out there about them beyond the release blurbs. I'm looking forward to using them.
  15. nevermind
  16. Agree with all the points made, particularly having spare keys/fobs. Totally understand the decision made in frustration and anger as well. In my case I was taking the Jeep back from someone not in any condition to have it nor to have been driving and I was ticked (had ignition key but didn't have the door lock key, had replaced the ignition prior and didn't have them keyed alike). I'm not sure how easy it would actually be to break out a hole in the windshield and get to the door lock buttons and yeah driving home would suck (never did fold down the windshield on my Jeeps back in the day). Overall, just one of those lessons learned, always have spares handy and if I have to break a window to get in, I'll try to research a little first.
  17. This happened when I lived in MT, but I did grow up in NJ. You laugh, but I too once had to break a window to get in, it was an older Jeep Grand Cherokee. I chose the smaller of the windows and broke the little angled piece on one of the rear doors. Then I went to replace that glass. The glass guy then educated me saying that the windshield is 'usually' the cheapest piece of glass to replace. The windshield would have been way cheaper, at retail, than that little piece of side glass. He then suggested checking junk yards and walked me through how to actually remove that smaller piece of glass 'in the field' so I had the proper dewalt battery with me and knew how to hook it up to the window switch to lower the main window to so I could remove the frame piece and get the angled piece out. Anyways, haven't had to do it since, but if ever I need to get into a vehicle by breaking the glass, the windshield is up first. At a minimum, I'll try try to search for replacement costs first if cell coverage is available.
  18. Resurrecting an old thread, but if you or anyone who comes across this are still looking for a good quality lightweight spinning reel, the JDM Shimano Soare XR fits the bill and is, in my opinion, a good deal. Specs have it at 135g/4.7ounces. I picked one up this summer for one of my ultralight stream trout rigs and have been very pleased with it.
  19. You're a good/bad influence. I'm rebuilding my rod collection and while these weren't on my radar, cannot pass up the deal. I originally picked up the medium light Zenon and the MG-LTX reel the other night along with a slew of baits. Tonight after reading your post I thought to myself, hmmm I don't have a heavy rod in my plans as of yet and it's a good deal at 50% off... So I just ordered the heavy Zenon and a MG-X reel. This overnight change window needs to end before I spend even more money. I need to step away from the computer. I did receive notification of my original order shipment this evening, rod, reel, and baits all in 2 packages. With my luck, the overnight Digitaka 'in stock' notification for the other reels I want will come through while I'm sitting here.
  20. I drive a 2009 Dodge RAM 3500, 6.7l Cummins, dual rear wheel, quad cab, long bed pickup. It's primary task is hauling our 40ft fifth wheel (kind of full timers, but currently taking care of family so based around childhood home). Empty/fishing eh, 12-14mpg, hauling the RV 9-10mpg all hand calculated. It has a 4.10 rear and the duallies don't help either. Rods go up in the cab across the back or in passenger seat. This past summer I lost 3 rods out of a canoe in the bed Plan is to haul my forthcoming kayak in the bed. Haven't quite yet figured out if/how I can rig up to carry the kayak when the 5th wheel is attached. I think I can toss it up on a roof rack but may overhang the front by 2ft or so, we'll see.
  21. I first saw it posted here in this thread. I did a little research on the code. It appears to have maybe originally come from "an industry insider's" facebook page according to this post on in-depth outdoors. Via Google, I've seen it mentioned on an ice fishing and a catfish forum. The tenuous link appears to be private equity firm Sycamore Partners which acquired both Pure fishing and Essendant in 2019. I'm wondering if the code works for any of their other companies...
  22. If you're looking for a good deal on Berkley baits, check out the latest sales thread in this section, look to the latest few posts for a 50% off code for purefishing.com (parent company of Berkley). I picked up several Stunnas for $7.50 each after the discount (along with a ton of other stuff). I lost a few Megabass 110s last summer. I was sad. I really did like the Megabass 110s, and am hopeful that I'll like the Stunna too.
  23. Well, thank you for that, I think... Picked up my list of Berkley baits I had been wanting and impulse purchased that Zenon MG-LTX Reel and Zenon med light casting rod to go with it. Neither was on my radar but at 50% off... Wish they stocked those Hardy fly rods, would have been all over that too.
  24. Thank you very much PressuredFishing. That info is quite useful as I look through the model charts.
