  1. I’m abt to pull the trigger on a kayden 610-4 cb do you like the kayden ? I’ve only ever owned fury’s and champs and while I love my fury my champions are an amazing rod and you can’t beat that warranty
  2. Dobyns kayden 735cb or Dobyns fury 705cb the kayden is more apt for this application and it does really well with both the 6xd does tend to fish better on a rod like the 805cb but for squarebills you usually want a shorter rod for more accurate casts the Dobyns is a medium heavy but is somewhere in between other brands med heavy and medium the 805 is one of the best 6xd rods ever made and while I don’t own a kayden 735 cb it’s the same action and I’m sure would do great for 1.5s+ I would say I like to throw the rock crawler 50s and 55s 1.0 squarebills and I like them on a 4 power Dobyns cranking rod as well as a series 3 -4-5 when I step it up to a 5xd or 6xd a 1.5-2.5 square bill and maybe even the bigger dredgers up to a dt16-18 and if I have too an 8xd I’ll throw a 5 power and for 8 and 10 xd I don’t throw them much but if I did it would be a 6 power if I had to advise you an all around cranking rod it would be a Dobyns kayden 735cb or if you want a longer rod a champ 765 cb if you go with a 805 it’s only purpose really is deep cranking and really anything over 7’3 feels odd for squarebills and smaller cranks if you wanted you could choose a glass rod but to me they feel too noodley but lots of pros like the glass cb rods I do know Keith combs talks about his main rod for everything from 1.5 sq bills to > 1/4 oz lipless all the way up to a 6xd being a zodias 7’2 medium heavy glass and when he throws 1.0 1/4 lipless series 3-4 on a 7’ zodias medium glass and 8 and 10 xds on a 7’6 heavy glass so you have options personally I would go with the kayden 735 for your applications or something similar to a 7’3 medium or medium heavy graphite moderate or glass depending on what you want from it I like graphite so I can snap my baits pause my baits without waiting 5 seconds for the rod to unload and I like the sensitivity and power of graphite however if your fishing open water and your not worried about muscling a fish a glass rod would suit you well too
  3. I have always used a fast action for jerkbaits until I swapped from mono to fluro after I made that swap it became very apparent that a mod fast was needed That 744c is a fantastic rod though wow
  4. I have played with one and they are nice personally I would look around for an older model curado I bet you could find one for around 100$ I have a k and love it I also have an old e that is really nice as well
  5. Hi guys so I wanted to speak on a combo I bought a couple months ago and have been extremely impressed with. I believe when you step into the 100$ price point for rods and reels your in a middle ground where your just breaking the surface of high level gear for me my high end rods sit at about 400$ a combo / Dobyns champ and curados or concept a2s. However I use these mainly for bottom contact rods, jigs trig shakeyheads and that’s about it so I bought a cheaper combo for my flashy swimmers and 3/8 oz chatterbaits about a year ago and have been very impressed with it. I ended up with a Dobyns fury 733c and a 13 fishing inception 6:1 and while the fury isint the most sensitive rod in the world it’s extremely well balanced I can even fish some flukes on it pretty effectively. These cheaper rods however and especially Dobyns in particular have much more slowed down blanks and this in turn makes them less sensitive. However this makes them killer for moving baits such as chatterbaits, underspins, light wire swim jigs, and the lure everyone else catches monsters on but me the infamous spinnerbait. I love my fury for these applications, and am glad i Picked it up. Not to mention the Dobyns warranty. the inception is just a solid reel I’ve had it for about 4 seasons and it has hopped around from rod to rod and been used hard. While it’s not the best performance reel it is a solid choice for those not looking to break the bank smooth drag solid construction and has been beat to tarnation by yours truly and still performs like new “knock on wood”. So this is my favorite combo around 200$ What are yours.
  6. Hi guys I’m in the market for a new jerkbait rod and I’ve locked it down to the kayden 610-4cb and the champion 685 cb I like a little bit longer of a rod for cranking but has anyone owned any kadens are they as high quality as the champs I own a fury and while it is a nice rod at the 100$ price point those champions are amazing and the actions are phenomenal I have never touched the sierras so I can’t speak on those but if anyone owns a kayden cb rod please let me know what you think, the rod will be mostly for 110s as I throw a Stunna 90% of the time and a rapalla finessier style or Kvd rip bait style the other 10% my other Dobyns are a bit underpowered and I’m a tad worried about being able to work them properly I’ve always used a medium fast action rod but have swapped from mono to fluro and now i feel like my rod needs to be a little more forgiving
  7. Everyone has an opinion and while there may be baits you can’t throw on a baitcaster like a 1/8th or 1/16 oz shakeyhead a floating worms or small 1/8oz prop swimbait heads if you don’t want to throw them don’t however these techniques specifically atleast on my bodies of water will catch numberous fish and even fish in the double digits when nothing else will i remeber a couple nights ago I was on my dock throwing around a Jerkbait and a shakeyhead and had 3-4 tournament anglers came by complaining about how they haven’t caught a fish and I just smiled and waved and said me either knowing a had caught 5 in the last 45 mins in the same spot they were casting spinnerbaits and jigs with a 1/8 oz shakeyhead sometimes especially in the heat and cold bass like extremely small profile baits like a squirrel tail worm or a kvd100 jerkbait or 2.8 keitech This is generally my arsenal as week I may be buying another spinning rod just because I want a vanford lol and my spinning rod has a shakeyhead on it 99.9% of the time then I have a cranking rod jerkbait rod underspin or chatterbait rod, jig rod and that’s pretty much it
  8. In my expirence baitcasters are more accurate at short distance and give a better ability to work jerkbaits walk the dog jigs and Texas rigs for me most of my spinning reels are 6:6:1 I haven’t bought any new ones in a while so I don’t know if they have 8:1 ratio spinning reels but I know they make 8:1 bait casters this slows for much better line pickup i use baitcaster for jerkbaits topwater cranks jigs Texas rigs chatterbaits spinnerbaits and swim baits and I use spinning for shakeyheads and fitness jigs 1/4 oz or under and a floating work and that’s pretty much it sometimes I will throw a smaller size shad rap on them too Hot takes my man spinnerbait thread was mine too lol I’m very opinionated and I guess everyone else is too
  9. Has anyone used the st criox mojo glass I’ve had a few st criox and used a few legends but they always seem really easily to break I’ve broken a victory and an avid I haven’t sent back yet but shoot I may be able to send one of those in and get a st criox for almost nothing
  10. The biggest I have a need for is a strike king series’s 5 one thing I do want is either composite or glass I don’t like straight graphite cranking rods
  11. I’m changing mine to megabass I got to play with a USA destroyer oneten special jerkbait rod and wowzers what a rod
  12. noted now try and throw a 1/16 oz or even an 1/8 oz shakeyhead for me on your baitcaster and show me how far you can cast lol
  13. Normally you get a budget so your alotted say 2500$ A year in gear or what have you I think this is why we see some pros using 150$ rods instead of all top of the line hank cherry was talking about his jerkbait rod being a 160$ Abu winch
  14. in late July or august go fishing on a lake that has pressure between 9am and 630pm and tell me how you do because in the south it gets toughhhhh Insert smallmouth will bite anything lol it entirely depends on time of year I was manly talking about the summer here in Nc from now to early September the fishing is rough except between the first hr or 2 of sunrise and sundown
  15. You are a unicorn lol I’ve been laughed at for pulling out a spinning rod
  16. Bass can arguably be one of the most frustrating aquatic critters to hunt for the only things I would put above them are native trout and musky it can be incredibly frustrating to know there’s fish in the area but pressure changes weather and other factors can make a bite tough. In these conditions I find myself always reaching for my spinning outfit, and it almost always has 1/8th oz shakeyhead on it with either a big bite squirrel tail or a trick worm. this can be an absolutely deadly combo when everyone else is throwing football jigs, Texas rigs, and cranks. While it most definitely is not the flashiest way to fish, it flat out catches them. The shakeyhead and drop shot are deadly techniques that absolutely catch big bass and I think you would be surprised at the size of fish you can catch on a 6” fitness worm. I most certainly have. So next time it’s hot and you can’t buy a bite brush the cobwebs off your spinning outfit and try a shakeyhead the results will suprise you
  17. Ok guys I’m interested to hear others opinions on this. You allowed 1 hardbait 1 softbait and 1 rod and reel or 1 rod 1 reel and 1 bait co what would they be for me I would have to go with dobyns, 13 fishing, and strike king, the only thing I would have to buy would be some berkley stunnas and megabass visions as strike king doesent currently make a nice sexy thin twitch style jerkbait
  18. I may go with the 13 fate black 7’0 medium and maybe later get a 7’4 med heavy as I don’t currently throw a ton of cranks and I don’t believe in spending a butoad of money on a moving bait rod as sensitivity doesent matter really only how the rod loads and since most of the time it’s wedged in your stomach weight isint super important either the ones I do throw are on the 733 but it just feels like it doesent fit the application kinda like trying to fish a popper or spook on a frog rod you can but it’s much harder to fish the baits correctly and esp with smaller cranks like 1.0s and 3xds it really limits the casting.
  19. My 733 is significantly slower than my 703c I chalked it up to the extra length kinda like how a 7’11 medium heavy mod fast is almost a noodle. Sorry I feel like I’m still not explaining this well so the first 1/3rd of a 7ft rod is about 2.3 ft the first 1/3rd in a 7’11 is abt 2.7 ft so you will have more bend on a longer rod. For me the fury line is great for open hook moving baits as the graphite is pretty slow and they have more of a parabolic bend for things like flukes soft plastic swim baits I like them for chatterbaits but some people like a med heavy or heavy moderate spinnerbaits light wire swim jigs things like that. I’ve been trying to throw some square bills and series’s 3s on my 733 but it feels like it doesent cast them very far and it doesent allow the baits to deflect off cover as well as they should. what are your thoughts of the omen black they have a 7’4 med heavy moderate and a 7’ medium moderate im looking at I’ve never used the kaydens or Sierras but plan on getting a k712sf in the near future I’ve only ever used the champ 744 fury 703sf 703c and 733c and I love all of them I will say the furys feel like the actions are much slower and less crisp and snappy than the champs. That champ 744cfh is an amazing jig and worm rod
  20. I have a 733c that I love for chatterbaits spinnerbaits underspins and things of that nature but I want a rod that does a little better with treble hooks. the 703 and 733 are both fast action rods however the fury lineup of rods use a slower graphite than the champions I love the fury’s and sierras for open hook moving baits and jerk-baits as they load deep into the rod like a mod fast would but it takes a good amount of pressure
  21. Being a angler who has to budget some rods my bottom rods being mostly all high end dobyns, was looking for a rod around 7’-7’6 for 1.5square bills and 3 xds I have never owned a rod solely for crankbaits I’m looking for something in the 100-150$ range and and from some of the research I have done I’m probably looking for a medium moderate I have heard good things about the lews composite Kvd rods and I like most of lures he makes has anyone used any of these rods he has a 7’ medium moderate I have been looking at. What do you guys use for these dobyns makes a 705cb fury but it seemed very Stiff like a chatterbaitsx
  22. This is a much more productive lure For me than a spinnerbait don’t know why but I’ve always done much better with these
  23. Hmm this is interesting and I usually fish a clear rocky lake, I don’t have good luck with black and blue except at night or after a big storm Why do throw cinnamon purple in sand or wat red in grass
  24. I like purple for deep water I think the exact color is less important the ones I have are just examples I think the most important is translucency A lot of what I learned from color is from fly fishing for native trout as they hunt only off sight and have a small window to lock onto a tiny mayfly larva and eat it color and flash becomes much more important. However with bass it becomes much more of a puzzle as sole sight imitations are not the only key kind of how brush hogs look like nothing a bass would eat but at night or in dirty water a full size brush hog consistently catches monster bass I would assume the action feels similar to a bluegill or maybe fleeing crayfish to the lateral line but sadly science does not care much about fishing. If anyone would like to do research on the pressure waves out off by the critters bass eat and find a way to make plastics put off the same vibrations. However off the top of my head as a biologist major I have no knowledge of how this would be measured
  25. Honestly you could probably catch a bass on any color this is just how I go about picking out mine how do you select yours
