  1. Ladies and gentlemen I am in search of knowledge. Curious to know of peoples approach to deep water. Now that being said, the 20-30+ Foot depth is a mystery to me. Trying to expand my ability offshore. Tossing wacky rigs up under docks and around shallow cover lands me a good deal of my fish currently. Would anyone would be kind enough to tell me then When/Where/why? Of deeper water fishing, time of year?,tempature, hours and baits you would use for getting A bite. thanks - Mike.
  2. So if the wife sees this. I only bought two rods this year but for the boys on BR, aside from tons of soft plastics. Upgraded bass mafia boxes. And a deeper pro + for the yak. I’ve added 3 rods/reels this year. 6’8 St croix mojo mxf paired with a reel I bought late last year. Shimano slx 70 mgl. 7’ HF St croix premier with a curado Dc 7’1 MF St croix bass x with a slx Dc 7’ mf abu Garcia MLF spinning combo just for wacky rigs at the local pond. (4/10) wouldn’t recommend to someone who only could get one setup this year. It is decent for what I’m asking it to do, it’s just a bit sluggish.
  3. So I have 3 SC rods paired with 3 shimano reels, here’s a quick run down on my experience. 1.) SC 7’ heavy/fast premier with a curado dc 8.1:1 this rod is a horse and can be used for jigs/frogs and it just flat out works. 2.) SC 6’8 Medium/EF mojo bass with a slx mgl 70 8.2:1 I only use this for poppers and the rod is so sensitive it hardly requires a hook set if I drag it across the body as the bait goes under. 3.) SC 7’1 medium/fast bass x with a slx Dc 6.2:1 used for cranks and I absolutely love the rod. Amazing feel to it. sorry for the long winded post haha, get both! Get ‘em all.
  4. I have a curado dc on a heavy fast st croix premier and it’s a workhorse. 8.1:1 so jigs/frogs/Trigs
  5. I live in New Hampshire so less is more I have 4 setups that do me just fine. I do currently have a skunk on a crank/spinner rod and reel as they were only purchased 2 hours ago and haven’t been tested. 7’1 st croix bass x m/f paired with a slx Dc 6.4. It’ll be a skunked combo when I do test it though if I’m being honest. ?
  6. Would like to update everyone who commented that today I did break my PB, not with a frog but with a jig. Thank you for all the advice!
  7. I have a Slx mgl 8.2 on a 6’8 st croix mojo bass top water rod with 50lb braid. ( treble hook from my Cranking rod scratched my cronarch mgl 150) slightest faint line down the side of the face plate. Crying inside lightly
  8. At 28 I should have realized that listening to a friend might bite me in the butt but catching 1-2 lb fish I had never had an issue before with breaking off. Honestly the experience just makes me hungrier to dial the technical aspect of my approach and hopefully land my PB this year.
  9. I’m pretty sure I have my drag maxed out because a friend of mine told me it’s the best way to go…. Hmm I’m wondering if that’s also an issue I’m having. What drag setting should I run with top water? 11 or 12 lbs of drag on the reel I believe.
  10. With it being so close to the shore I kinda panicked because I realized instantly it was my Pb it all happened so fast. This reel was previously used as a jig setup before I bought a chronarch. I’m wondering if it was frayed good enough for it to be a cause of failure. It broke off closer to half way down the rod. Appreciate the reply!
  11. Was throwing a top water frog in between heavy rain showers. Was working the frog on a 6’8 mojo bass with a slx mgl 70 in 8.2:1 30lb berkley braid. now I was able to get this fish to strike pretty close to where I was standing 2-3ft from the bank. I set the hook as he went down with the frog. Opposite direction to where he went down with it. One good reel in before lifting the fish up to me on the bank. As I lifted in a blur the fish was on the bank. In a primal instinct I followed the fish into the shallows trying to grab the fish with everything I had. long story short I was pretty bummed about that fishing getting away. Any info on what I could do next time to successfully land that fish? The kicker is after breaking off about 5 ft from shore he launched Ariel to try and shake the frog that was stuck in the top of his mouth. Please tell me what I need to do to land that fish!! Thank you.
  12. Welcome! New guy here too, thank you for your service sir.
  13. Have been fishing off and on since I was about 18. Almost 28 now. Would have to say it’s been a solid 4 years of going pretty frequently. The middle to end of last year I got really into it and this year I’m obsessed with bass fishing. I have taken the time to learn from trial and error about rod action/size/power and matching gear ratio to baits. Do a lot of bank fishing but also fish bigger lakes with my uncle on his boat. i live in New Hampshire and have yet to catch a large mouth over 2.8 lbs. i can catch smaller fish all day but I’ve recently started pairing rods and reels for their proper use. Top water/jerk: Shimano Slx mgl 70 8.2:1/ 6’8 medium st. Croix Mojo Bass Single hook combo:* jigs/Texas Rig/Chatter*: Shimano Chronarch Mgl 150 7.1:1/ 7’ heavy St. Croix premier. cranks/small swim: Bass pro shop ion 6.1:1/ 7’ medium heavy Abu Garcia vendetta the cranking setup is my oldest and first baitcaster that I started to learn on. Before using a BC I was throwingeverything with a Shimano Sahara 2500 on a 7’ medium heavy abu Garcia veratas. Which has since been gifted to my youngest brother. sorry for the run on explanation im sure most of you don’t care. I just really really found something I can’t get enough of. - mike
