  1. No, it is on a baitcaster. It just gets loose and about 4 wraps worth hang off spool if there isn't any tension on other end of line. Well everyone, thank you for your help. I took the setup fishing today because rain cleared up. Had a bunch of really good casts. Caught fish on it, including a decent sized smallie to test its strength. Made maybe 100 casts and no backlashes all day. Casts far and effortlessly and almost outperforms my set ups with Shimanos. Regardless, the setup casted amazing for how looped the line was. The line became a little loose in the middle of the cast but the loose line dissipated and still casted far with no loose line afterward. Very pleased with the setup, just have to see how long the line lasts though before I have to re-spool it.
  2. I had it spinning vertically. Listened to the tips as well where you set up spool to where you reel in line same way it comes off the filler spool. I don't know. I will do some casting and see if it is just a common thing I need to get used to or if I have a problem and need to buy new spool. But thank you regardless!
  3. I recently just bought a new setup. Spooled up my reel with 17 lb. Seagaur Invizx. I have heard great things about Invizx and was eager to try it out because I love my Seagaur Blue Label line too. This is my first time spooling a bait caster with straight fluorocarbon and not braid to leader so I don't really know what it is supposed to look like. What I have noticed is the line has an absurd amount of memory for a brand new line. It tangles everywhere and falls off my spool. Is this normal for straight fluorocarbon or did I just get a bad batch of line from the factory? I peeled it off my spool gently and it is just forming big circles on the ground and knotting in itself. I haven't casted it yet to see if I will get a backlash because it is pouring rain in my area right now but I will have to see if it is normal or awful issue.
  4. I am going to be purchasing a Lew's KVD rod and reel casting set up in 7' MH. Bass Pro and the Lew's site both have awesome sales going on right now but after doing some looking I found out that I can get the set up from Bass Pro sale for about $10 cheaper than with Lew's sale on site. Thing is, Bass Pro only carries the KVD casting reel in 6:2:1 and 8:3:1. I would prefer a 7:5:1, but the store does not carry that ratio so could I get away with the other two sizes or is it worth the extra money and hassle to pick it up from Lew's? I would also be purchasing the line for the set up too so ordering from Bass Pro might be easier so I can get line with it and not pay extra shipping charges, but I wanted to hear your opinions.
  5. I hear a lot of guys mention that they throw 15 lb. fluoro and others say they throw 20 lb. I am looking at using it to throw spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, medium sized jigs and swim jigs, and some topwaters. Would 17 lb. be a good middle of the road line size for balancing power and line diameter for casting distance or should I spool up with the other two sizes I mentioned? ( I will be using Seaguar Invisx in case you were wondering what line it might be for diameter)
  6. The fluke bite is getting really good on my local rivers right now and I didn't know what to use to properly fish a fluke. I have always just used my medium spinning rod with 10 lb. braid and 8 lb. leader because I figured that would be good to use for flukes, but I hear a lot of guys saying to use a medium heavy baitcaster with light braid or fluorocarbon. My medium heavy is currently rigged up with 30 lb. braid and 15 lb. leader (I am going to buy another for straight fluoro but I only have this one medium heavy right now so this is what I am using). Would 30 lb. braid be too big and would it give me backlashes? Should I use my baitcaster or stick with spinning gear for this?
  7. I'm looking for another medium heavy casting setup to use with straight fluorocarbon to throw moving baits and some topwaters (don't need sensitivity). I was looking at some of the Lew's options because of a lot of the good things I hear about them. I strictly use St. Croix Mojo Bass' with Shimano Nasci's for spinning but I like the Lew's casting rods a lot and wanted to get my hands on one. I was looking at either the Lew's KVD, Lew's TP1 Black, or even the Lew's Mach Crush combo. I would probably pair it with a Lew's Speed Spool or a Lew's KVD. I wanted to see if anyone has any experience with these rods and what your opinion on them was. Thanks.
  8. Ok thanks. I have the St. Croix Mojo Bass in the 6' 10" ML paired with a Shimano Nasci. I love it. That was my second option
  9. I am looking at buying a new 7 foot medium spinning rod, and one of the ones I looked at was the Dobyns Fury. I have 2 of the Fury casting rods in medium heavy and heavy and I swear by them, but I have never held the spinning version in hand before. I was looking at several other well liked mediums, but I am drawn to the Fury rods because of my experience with the casting version. I was wondering if you guys had ever tried the spinning one yourselves and what were your thoughts on them?
  10. I just recently got a new ML spinning rod and was wondering what you guys thought about using it for river smallmouth. I have primarily used a medium rod before but didn't know if a medium light would have the power to pull in a 3lb smallie from current.
  11. Hey everyone! Been interested in St. Croix rods for a while now and wanted to finally go out and buy one. I noticed the Mojo Bass and Premier rods are both $150. I don't know what the differences are between the two rods. Wanted to see if any of you guys had experience with the two rods and which one you like the most. Thank You!
  12. I am looking at another medium heavy rod for just another all around rod so I can have a few more techniques ready to throw. I am looking at several moderately priced rods such as the Daiwa Tatula rod, Lew's TP1 Black or another good rod for a decent price. Probably gonna pair the rod with a Shimano or Lew's reel. What do you guys think about lews rods? Any good for the same price as other brands?
  13. I am looking at new lines for a spinning rod. I fish in a rocky river but also fish some lakes too. Should I use braid to long leader or straight fluorocarbon. Also, what is your favorite leader or straight line. Thanks!
  14. I am looking at new braid for my rods and have been looking between the Seaguar Smackdown, the PowerPro Maxcuatro, and the Daiwa J Braid. Which do you guys like the most?
  15. The rebellion seems pretty nice according to the reviews I've seen, but I'm a little iffy on how the colors would look with my Ultegra reel.
