  1. Thanks for reminding me why I rarely have a TV on.
  2. SO..... I think I've learned something, or at least gathered some insight. Most of the time when I'm fishing a t-rig I use a 1/8 ounce weight. During the Winter is pretty much the only time I have luck with BIG worms. This time of year I do pretty good with 6" Zoom trick worms. The smaller worms are increasing my rate of fall. I'll go with a bigger worm, and bigger weights this weekend and see what happens.
  3. I'm not sick, my arm is in a "cast".
  4. My truck has towing mirrors. They extend to see around a wide trailer. My boat/trailer isn't wide enough to need them, but extending them allows me to have a good view of the trailer when it's empty. I also lower my tinted windows any time I'm backing a trailer.
  5. My answer would have been different a year ago, but I'd look around with sonar starting around the points and ledges. If I found baitfish first I'd just follow them around for a while until I saw some action. Between the State and Carp there's no weeds anywhere I fish. I'm not sure how I'd handle that. Without sonar this time of year, during the daytime I'd position my boat near the tip of the blue to white transition on the South point and heave a bladed jig toward the deeper water. If that got some attention I'd follow up with a Carolina rig. However, I'm not against just being a spectator and seeing how Catt approaches it.
  6. You're probably "different" during the tournament. I suspect you're in a hurry even if you don't realize it. You might also be making less accurate casts due to tournament "pressure". My advice, quit the tournaments. Fish for fun. I believe it's a shame to turn a relaxing activity into a contest. FWIW I fished one tournament. It was ~40 years ago. I won, almost doubling the 2nd place bag. I didn't enjoy it though so I decided never again.
  7. Lifeguards. I was at the public pool today. I was taking a leak in the deep end. The lifeguard saw me and started blowing his whistle. It startled me so bad I fell off the diving board.
  8. I don't use much braid, but when I do I use a trilene knot. IF the line is in good shape the knot will break a few pounds under the strength of the line.
  9. From what I understand Flatheads are more predatory than other Cats. I've caught several Bass fishing, as well as several Blues. I wonder how long the record 66 pound flathead was. I caught a flathead last year that was 46 inches long. It bottomed out my 50 pound scale. 46 inches long with 33 1/2 girth. I guessed it to be 53 pounds. I had my net out until I saw how big it was. Edit: I'm not in PA. The NC record is 78 pounds.
  10. I've caught 1 ten inch spot on mine. I've fished it in areas before and after catching Bass on other lures. The Lake I fish mostly is highly pressured. I suspect the lures size has a tendency to spook already wary bass.
  11. Congrats on the new PB. That Bass is a TANK. IME that's a well nourished relatively young bass for her size. It's my belief that the football shape, as well as the mouth not as big as the body is a young healthy bass. (young for one that's almost 7 pounds) The bass from the week before didn't have the football shape, and it's mouth was as big as it's body. Both are super nice Bass. The Maine state record LM is 11 pounds 10 ounces. I consider a bass that's over 1/2 the state record to be a trophy.
  12. The good news is I didn't get skunked today. The bad news is I only caught 2 Bass. The additional bad news is the one pictured was the BIG one. Even the Catfish I caught was small. I didn't catch several White Perch but didn't use any pixels on them. Shallow flats and points were full of fish yesterday. None today beyond White Perch. The 2 Bass I caught today were over 20 feet deep.
  13. What I think it worse are the lane changers who think they're in a race. If you leave a small gap between you and the vehicle in front of you for safety they'll whip right in. Tailgaters too. Driving a couple inches from my bumper isn't going to make the car in front of me go any faster. Speaking of stuff at the boat landing. What I saw today wasn't irritating, just entertaining. A man was trying to back a pontoon boat into the water, and clearly didn't know how to back a trailer. I bet he pulled up and started over 10 times........then, the lady in the passenger seat got in the drivers seat and backed it right in.
  14. I went from 5:30 until 10 today. Got 13 Bass, a 12 inch Crappie and an 11 Pound Catfish. Biggest bass was a 3.36 pound Spot.
  15. Prayers from Mrs B and myself for successful surgery. My Dad (now 88 years old) had cataract surgery 10 years ago and no longer needs glasses. I see a bunch of Deer every day but haven't seen any fawns yet.
  16. It's kinda smokey even here in NC. I can't imagine how bad it is up North. I suspect the Lake will still be crowded Saturday though. I'll be going early. There was a farm had a pipe burst. Right now there's supposed to be some cow "stuff" that's leaked into one of the main tributaries of the Lake I fish at. I wonder how that will effect fishing. I wonder if the nutrients are good. BIG bass come from cow ponds.
  17. I don't intend to talk bad about Maine, or any other state........but our lakes don't freeze over down here.?
  18. 10" or so for a roll cast. For any other type cast around 2". I'm more accurate with less slack. For me, slack is "part of" a roll cast. It's not part of any other cast. It's my experience that lures are more likely to foul with a bunch of slack during casting.
  19. I believe it's simply attention seeking behavior. He didn't have a snowballs chance in the tournament, even with fishing out of tournament waters. He's got way more views in his antics than any fish he's every caught.
  20. I love Krispy Kremes. They're small compared to most doughnuts. They're my weakness. I'm not much of a sweet eater but I can stuff a bunch of them down my neck. Like Darth says, they're really sweet. I treat myself every month or 2. There's a store in the town I work in. There's always a line waiting. I'm not a coffee drinker, can't comment on Dunkins or anyone elses. (In my Billy Bob Thorton/Sling blade voice) Coffee makes me nervous when I drink it.
  21. I think fall rate is one of or maybe the most important thing for sinking baits. I've seen a big difference by changing 1/16 of an ounce. I also think most times, for most baits color is one of the least important things. I fish murky water pretty much all of the time. Clear water may be different. Nice bass, both you and @Pat Brown
  22. I slept in this morning. I caught a 17" Spot on my 2nd cast at 6:03am. I caught my 13th, a 17" Largemouth on my last cast at 9:07. All on a Bladed jig. Those 2 are pictured. I'm kinda pleased with the size of them. Only one was under 14". I figure as long as I'm catching "keepers" a few big ones will come along. A few weeks ago all I was catching was dinks.
  23. I started a 14 day diet last Monday. I finished it today.
  24. I've been catching Bass early so I went earlier today. I launched my boat at 4am. Caught my first bass at 6:49. I fished until 11 and ended up catching 11. 5 Largemouth and 6 Spots. All but 1 were 14" and over. Biggest was a hair shy of 18". I also caught 1 Bullhead and lost a Blue Cat that was probably 10 pounds or so. Most were on a Seibert Bladed jig. A couple (and the Cat/Bullhead) on cranks. 1 on a Carolina rig.
