  1. I have read reports that the 72 heavy posion adreana is a softer heavy. "More of a medium heavy" by more than one person. Some even calling for its use for moving baits.
  2. 20 lbs flouro is like fishing with a slinky. It's going to have memory and coil. For those types of line I like a twing reel with a more aggressive braking profile to tame the line rather than relying on spool tension.
  3. Sniper. If I want streatch I have big game.
  4. This one was a crankbait rod and he ruined it by boat flipping I assume. I know this gen is brittle but if you can't be bothered to bend over and land then be prepared to bend over. Make him pay.
  5. Majorcraft benkei. Either the BFS or the short swimbait rod for Japanese weirdness. You could buy a higher end majorcraft line not on tackle warehouse for cheaper but the benkei is what's on TW.
  6. I just stick the spool into a shoe, let it spin trapped in there and reel on line. I always felt dumb doing this but who's stupid now?
  7. They should be the same parts.
  8. Yeah we are a weird bunch. North American freshwater bass inhabit cover and will dive into that cover upon hookset or any reason at all. The ability to lift and steer a fish away from cover is important.
  9. Japanese BFS rods have similar large diameters at the reel seat. Its why they are so powerful. They are designed for fishing bass lures around cover. From the prototype modern BFS rod from fenwick japan to the newest BFS offerings they all have a pretty large diameter blank once you get down to the reel seat. Most completely shut off from the 1st guide to the butt. As bass rods they need this power down deep to steer fish out of cover. It's actually the defining characteristic of identifying a BFS rod over a regular taper L or UL casting rod. Its not a BFS rod unless it's big like that. Otherwise its just a normal L or UL casting rod and those predate BFS rods.
  10. You can get color ones if you want. You'll need to reuse the shims from the original spool tension knob. Gomexus also has a nice star and knob. You can also just order stock parts from the usdm zillion. I like the gomexus 6 point flat black metal star with a zillion/alphas stock spool tension knob. The flat black of the star matches the flack black trim of the reel perfectly.
  11. Full retail on tackewarehouse. Never mention buying jdm again or it all colapses. You either know or you don't. If you don't know you don't need to. All good things come to an end and we are not ready for the gravy train to end. Normies, ignore this hack and buy full retail plus tip on tackle warehouse.
  12. I can do both. I had to retrain my left hand for baitcast use and it is still way slower than the right but I enjoy the palming cast of a lefty reel when making short target casts. For bomb and wind I still prefer righty.
  13. Dock skipping a magdraft is a proven tactic. Not sure I would want to skip with a shimano but you can give it a go.
  14. Steez a hlc would probably be the ultimate frog reel but they are expensive. If you want value then maybe a tatula 150 or tranx 200. I don't want plastic hande side plate when I am winching in a fish through the slop. Jdm and usdm zillion hds as well as the bantam would be nice middle ground between high end and value priced.
  15. Not sure. I have an otomat and I'm not sure what makes it so special as a topwater rod. I'm topwater stupid and just like haha fish go splash on my lures because its fun. I can't nerd out on the technicals of the action, power length and all that. It casts well and is decently balanced. I think it is more of a regular taper. I also use my levante JBS as a topwater rod and it works fine too. It's shorter and not as well balanced as the otomat with stiffer tip but catches fish all the same. You could probably replace my otomat with an orochi JBS or flatside special and I wouldn't know the difference but I'm topwater stupid. I just saw a legendary destroyer for sale for $220 used or whatever it was and got it then put a TD Ito on it.
  16. Use whatever reels you want within reason. We have had a quiet BFS reel revolution on the US market long before the curado BFS ever showed up. SV spool, MGL spools are common place as are various OEM reels with sub 12 gram spools and all work well on ML rods. I have a $60 Amazon reel with a 10 gram 32mm spool in it which is pretty much a plastic pixy at this point. For the truly light weight stuff a shallow light weight spool like what it found on current crop of BFS/Air reels is still best. It was back then too when the father of BFS was developing his rods. Line wise I like a 7 to 10 lbs hard flouro. Something you wouldn't put on a spinning reel. That's the point.
  17. Not for you but the guy that was very concerned about IPT on his 7.3 tatula and overfilling with 40 lbs braid. Just switch to 8:1 and stop being a schizo. (By the way the ducks at the park are free and the government doesn't want you to know).
  18. I just pull them up to the surface with the rod and then once up wind them in. Use the rod to sweep and pull at the fish instead of freezing and winding. This is what I do and I use 10 lbs flouro with finesse baits. Just pull at the fish with the rod and they naturally will work themselves out. My hooksets aren't violent either since I am using light line and thin gage wire hooks. The fish don't seem to even know they are hooked until they are out of the dock and spaz out by the boat.
  19. You can just buy an 8:1 gear set for the tatula 200 if you want. The fuego ct/tatula ct and original tatulas/tatula hd all share the same gears except the tatula 300.
  20. So far so good with the budget big bait low pro reel. I have a few cheap reels I use from them to time on cheap rods just to keep me honest and have real experience with budget tackle so I can recommend them to newer or budget anglers. Usually I am left wanting when using one of the budget rigs wishing I had its higher end counterpart instead but not with this one. I really don't notice a difference between this reel and my tatula 200 or lexa 300 when casting and working 2 to 3 ounce baits. The rod is struggling a bit at 3 ounce but the reel has been great at that weight. The conical level wind does work and the line fluff on a hard cast with 20 lbs big game is between the tws tatula 200 and non tws lexa 300. Brakes are good and I get very good distance and enough control to cast a glide straight into the wind. It doesn't have quite the braking power of the lexa 300 so skipping a hud is probably out of the question but most don't need that level of control. The knobs are my only complaint but a handle swap from the same site I got the reel is cheap and easy. The knobs are big but are too short for a barrel type knob for my preference. For that length I would prefer a flat knob. If I had to be nit picky the top of the frame is taller than it needs to be and both the tatula and lexa feel shorter when palmed with the thumb on top of the frame despite all 3 reels having the same spool dimensions. The tatula 200 and lexa 300 just package that spool into a more compact reel. Weight is also a bit excessive with the overkill aluminum non handle side plate.
  21. I liked their wacky weedless jigheads. They hold up well to being skipped around docks and boat lifts and when the weed guard eventually falls out you got your monies worth since they are cheap. Never had a hook point roll on me or a hook break either. Shame they appear to be gone now.
  22. ACS is picky on which reel you use. With daiwas and shimanos I find the ACS great but anything with a large low slung main gear will interfere with the palming and pinch fingers against the center rib of the seat. You want to press your fingers into the bottom of the seat and the large hump of the gear housing on some reels will make your fingers lift off the bottom of the reel seat so you naturally move your finger tips go to the back of the housing to be able to have your fingers in contact with the reel seat. This creates pinching of the center rib of the seat bottom and your fingers and has moved your fingers to a place they were not designed to go on the seat. The seat is very comfortable if your fingers end up where they are supposed to but not all reels will allow this.
  23. That's the one. Thanks. I bought it because they were cheap and looked like a really versatile bait that could be punched, fished like a lizzard, wobble head or even a jig trailer.
  24. Can someone ID this incase I end up liking them. It came out of the bottom of the Walmart discount bin earlier in the year. They were dry and a bit stiff indicating they are maybe older baits. Noting on the yum site and no name on the bag. It's like a rage tail yum bait. Weird.
