  1. Another vote for using palomar with straight braid no problems
  2. Oh I thought the question was about what line for cranking my bad
  3. 15lb invizx for all jig usage except when around heavy vegetation then it’s 50lb braid ??‍♂️ simple simple
  4. I use 16lb mono Sunline supernatural for spooks seems to work well ??‍♂️ I use 50lb braid for Buzzbaits I throw Buzzbaits on my frog setup which also does my Flippin n pitching and it is my only braid setup ??‍♂️
  5. I’ll throw two reels out there for ya Abu Garcia Revo SX a very good, solid, easy to use reel and well within your budget Quantum Smoke X another option well within your budget and very user friendly reel that will last a long time As for a rod I’d recommend looking into getting a St Croix rod and finding a series in your budget that suits the needs you’re looking to fill such as a 7ft medium heavy fast or even medium fast for just a general duty rod Tight lines
  6. Treble hook topwaters, jerkbaits, squarebills, and lipless crankbaits = 14lb or 16lb Sunline supernatural monofilament it’s line diameter is very small per lb test so you can get away with higher poundage wacky rigs, Texas rigs, jigs, Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, soft plastic Swimbaits = 15lb Seaguar invisx Frogs, Buzzbaits, plastics and jigs around heavy cover = 50lb Seaguar smackdown worth noting I’m fishing in Canada for smallmouth almost exclusively and I only own baitcasters
  7. 7’1 MH/F Mojo Bass casting rod I fish 4inch yum dingers wacky rigged for smallies with it and absolutely love it
  8. Hello, I’m looking to upgrade one of my rods for a 7’1 MH/F spec’d victory or legend tournament casting rod does anyone here have experience with one or both of those rods? I’m mostly wondering if the legend tournament is really 100$ better than the victory, is it worth the extra money? Which one is the more bang for your buck? is there a much of a noticeable difference on the water fishing the two rods? The rods will be used for bottom contact baits so sensitivity is important…… Just looking for some input thanks everyone
  9. St croix mojo bass glass rods are great and affordable!
  10. I’ve had to use st croix’s warranty once about a year ago and it was a good deal 25$ for a new rod to Canada I’ll take that any day I was happy and continue to use their rods
  11. Sunline supernatural mono ??
  12. Abu Garcia Revo sx gen4 Paid 140$ Canadian for, it’s just been a great reel never gave me an issue ??‍♂️I got a second one I’ve enjoyed it so much
  13. You’re not an idiot but if the reel has internal brakes and they’re all off it will make casting more difficult…… before I use any new reel I buy I always “play” with it….. take it apart, just inspect it, and basically see how it’s put together etc. kinda would figure you’d know the braking system on a reel before you buy it…. but hey it happens goodluck with the reel
  14. Revo stx on sale for 139.99 idk how you beat that in value ??‍♂️ I’m tempted to grab one and I don’t even need another reel
  15. Am I the only one who seems intrigued by Berkley’s new baits? The slobberknocker, power stinger, and power blades Spinnerbaits all look pretty good to me…….. I’ve never fished any Berkley baits outside the bullet pop so I can’t say I have much experience with their products….. but that vibrating jig and trailer combo look really good to me…… and having 244 different blade/colour options for the Spinnerbaits seems like a good thing….. maybe I’m just an easy fisherman to catch
  16. Thank you! I had no idea these were out there booyah doesn’t even have them listed on their own site…..
  17. I’ve been fishing with booyah pad crasher jrs a lot lately for smallmouth and it’s been working good, but sometimes I wish there was a popping pad crasher jr but there isn’t…… so what do people use for a smaller frog that pops?
  18. Abu Garcia rods and reels Strike King hard baits X Zone soft baits
  19. Only own Abu rods and reels but I’ve owned shimano reels and st croix rods but have since sold them and am now exclusively Abu ??‍♂️
  20. Also worth noting I am in Canada and will be using the rod almost exclusively for strong smallies and was wondering if anyone can say if I’ll be feeling like I’m just totally outmatched or what with the rod? Because I know with my Medium if I’m in a pinch and absolutely feel like I gotta reign a bass in harder than I’d like to, to avoid wood or weeds I can do it in a pinch but typically don’t need to….. just wondering if I’ll just be totally hopeless with a ML or can I still apply pretty good pressure in a situation I may have miscalculated and need to apply some oooommmff in a pinch
  21. Thanks for the replies everyone! I was thinking of using it for 4inch dingers wacky rigged weightless and 1/16 ounce neds mainly….. and maybe the odd 3/16 ounce jig and light swimbait On a 6’10 ML Veritas plx tourney rod that @Blaine Donders said he has too coincidentally…… either that rod or another 7foot MF…… I think I’m leaning towards the ML ??‍♂️
  22. How many people out here use medium light casting rods? I’m thinking of getting a 6’10 medium light rod for, unweighted plastics and other light baits…… is it worth going to medium light vs just sticking with a medium?
  23. Rebel Pop R the bait just flat out catches fish….. I’ve had 30+ Fish mornings for smallmouth with it…… just an awesome bait
  24. If you’ve never used a baitcasting reel before I’d recommend using the bulk of the 150$ budget on a reel with a decent braking system to help with the learning phase….. and since you plan on using Buzzbaits with the setup anyway I wouldn’t worry about getting a particularly sensitive rod so I’d go with a good reel and just an alright rod….. whatever’s in the budget medium heavy/fast rod 7’0-7’4 range would be my recommendation
