  1. Do you think a medium light has enough power for the stupid tubes?
  2. Shimano makes a good stick. I have the A version of the Expride in light+ power and that’s an awesome ned rod
  3. I mainly throw 110 jrs and +1’s and old school TD minnows with an occasional xrap and rogue. From a cost standpoint I’m trying to avoid the nrx but hear great things about them but the glx fits my budget MB has some good sticks. I have the orochi whipsnake. It works the 110 jrs pretty good but it’s definitely on the upper end of its weight range Do you have any experience with the glx model?
  4. I’m looking at the St Croix legend elite medium 6’10” extra fast, 7’0” fast and g Loomis glx medium and having a tough time make a decision I’ll use it for jerk baits, 1/4-5/16 skirted jigs, weightless flukes and tubes. of these three choices, what’s everyone’s thoughts? I’m open to other suggestions as well thanks
  5. I’m looking to try the stupid tube rigging method for river smallmouth in rocks i throw 2.75” tubes mostly but cant find a suitable ewg jig head that fits that size tube with a 60 degree line tie Any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks
  6. What hook do you recommend?
  7. That’s a good idea with two bobber stops and a slip weight.
  8. I’m looking to try split shotting some plastics on an overnight kayak trip in a couple weeks. What are some suggestions for types and sizes of hooks for 3” curly tail grubs, 4” finesse worms and zman trd plastics? Also, any other lure recommendations for split shotting for river smallmouth would be appreciated?
  9. Just a quick update. I git the medium power avid yesterday. I spooled the reel with fluro and casted a 1/4 ounce sinker in the yard. I think this rod is gonna be really fun to fish for river smallies with. I suspect it’ll allow a great fight without overpowering the smaller fish yet have enough backbone to bring in a 4 plus pounder in current
  10. I have a real old falcon lowrider from like the late 90’s. It’s only a 6’ but great for jerkbaits. I smoked so many smallies back then when the rogue and TD minnows were all the rage
  11. I’m looking for feedback and suggestions on a $300 ish medium power bait casting rod. It’ll be a general purpose rod for river smallmouth throwing mostly spinnerbaits, chatter baits, buzz baits, underspins with some t rig type presentations on or near the bottom thanks
  12. Anyone have any feedback on the new SC Avid casting rods? I’m interested in the medium power one for all river smallmouth using spinnerbaits, blade baits, underspins etc i have the older Avid ML spinning rod and like it I’d be open to other medium power casting rods suggestions
  13. Anyone know the weight differences between the minnkota terrova and ulterra?
  14. Agree with the above recommendation for Yozuri hybrid. It’s cheap, strong and tough. I personally like the smoke gray
  15. The shimano Expride light + A version is a great ned rod. Not sure about the newer B version but think it should be fine
  16. I’m looking to add a few 3inch or so, deeper diving jerk baits for river smallmouth fishing. I’ve had decent success with 110 jr’s +1 but not familiar with duo or lucky craft smaller jerk baits. My target depth is 6-8’ or so thanks
  17. I just notice g Loomis had a medium heavy imx pro spinning rod rated 1/8 to 7/16 oz in extra fast
  18. Primarily it will be a bottom contact rod dragging jigs and tubes for river smallmouth but would see some jerkbait duty, primarily 110 juniors. Unfortunately, the nrx is out of my price range but the SC LE and GLX are doable
  19. I’m not sure what css numbers are but I’m mainly looking at 7’ medium fast and 6’10” extra fast
  20. I’m narrowing down spinning rod choices. is there much of a difference between the SC LE medium vs the Loomis medium. I think SC’s medium is rated up to 5/8 but Loomis shows 3/8 for the GLX. thanks
  21. I have the avid mlf so it sounds like the mxf is a solid choice. Thanks for the info
  22. Looking for user feedback on the SC LE 6’8”, 6’10” Med extra fast and the 7’ medium fast Thanks
  23. Thanks for all the suggestions. I’m kind of leaning towards the SC legend elite medium extra fast. Trying to decide between the 6’8” or 6’10”. The rod would likely see some jerk bait action when I’m not dragging jigs on the bottom
  24. There is a healthy musky population in the areas that I fish. I generally see a couple on most trips when the water is clear
