  1. I know that you've watched several you tube videos such as this : This makes it look easier than tying your shoes but , for me , this video and none of the others I've watched tell you how to be sure you don't get crossover in tiny diameter line . The rest of it seemed pretty easy as long as you bring the loop forward of the hook eye prior to tightening . ( Seems like this video suggest you pull on both tag and standing ? ) I'll be monitoring this thread to see if anyone can tell an old man with old man eyes how to be sure there's no crossover. If we could all use heavy trot line cord on our lures like they do in the videos , knots might be a little simpler
  2. The Toit knot seems to be similar to what I've been calling the improved trilene ( because it is the same modificaton as a clinch to an improved clinch ) . Only difference is the Toit knot uses more loops or rotations in the final phase . I would think the Toit knot would be very difficult to tighten down properly when you're out in the real world ??
  3. I am so sorry . I'm know you made sure he had a wonderful life and I'm also sure he returned the kindness ten fold . Perhaps a reunion later at the rainbow bridge .
  4. I'm not going to be able to make this one . Hope yall go and fill the boat !!
  5. Sad day . Unlikely that we will ever see his equal . RIP
  6. Don't know if my little boat will cut the mustard in this situation but would be interested in joining ya'll . If there's room for another , let me know . At my age , 5 months is maybe a long shot but I'd like a chance at it .
  7. Who knew !! Had no idea they distributed Pappy . Have never been able to get / afford Pappy but maybe someday
  8. Chartreuse and white spinnerbait with single Colorado blade and a plastic frog - depended on how far along in the year it was and how thick the milfoil was .
  9. But a 6 foot leader might allow me to be able to retie to the lure once or twice if needed ??
  10. Totally agree . Loved mine . Thanks Bird . I'm keeping the leader length no longer than from tip to hook keeper . Like so many things , I have a feeling that more time on the water will provide a resolution
  11. Just wondering if you're using the vintage 300s or the new model ? Back in the day I threw Mitchell 300s and Zebco Cardinals . It would be interesting to know how the new 300s compare .
  12. Cannot believe you can bring yourself to put bacon on the hook I'm so addicted to the stuff that it would never get out of the boat LOL .
  13. Thanks . Looked up the Shin knot . Neat knot but it looks like it might be a little thicker than the FG because the leader is doubled . After a good bit of practice , my FG knots are getting a little smoother. The trick that helped me is finding out that , when they say to tension the braid , they don't mean banjo string tight . In fact , I have to vary the tension while looping the leader .
  14. Thanks . Only reason I was trying the braid to AbrazX combo is that , lately , if I'm not pulling through one of those oak trees then I'm bumping over rocks . Someday a really smart person will invent a line that has all the good qualities rolled into one . But that might take some of the fun out of the game
  15. Thanks. Sound advice but option #1 would be a no go . I've read others on the forum state LMB and SMB aren't line shy .
  16. May have to lose the leader. Just learning again (after years away from fishing) and was looking for an edge . Thanks again. Will look the Lefty Kreh . If it's thinner or as thin and easier to tie , I'll give it a try.
  17. Thanks . I may end up having to lose the leader but , like you say , I may want to spend a little more time learning to tie the knot .
  18. Thanks . I've been working with about 6 feet of leader . Really like the Tatsu I use on my other spinning rig . Wanted to try AbrazX leader for rougher stuff . I'll have to brush the dust off my marlinspike seamanship
  19. Not going with mono on this rig . Trying AbrazX FC as leader . Not familiar with this knot . Will Look it up > Thanks . May have to . I really like the sensitivity of the braid though .
  20. Thanks A-Jay . Unfortunately I'm trying this on a spinning set up . I have Tatsu on my other spinning rig and it seems to work okay other than some minor twist issues . Wanted to try the braid to AbrazX because I fish brush and lay downs in halfway clear water a fair amount of the time . Guess I'll just have to lose the leader as you suggest . Thanks Phish . Actually it does help .
  21. Thanks Choporoz. I think the Alberto is slightly thicker because the lines are doubled . I'm headed out this AM to give one last modification a try but , you're right , I may have to just skip the leader .
  22. I have read a lot of discussion here regarding using braid with a leader . I tried it early on using a double uni knot and hated the "tick, tick, tick" of the knot going through the guides . So , I spent the time and finally got a half way descent FG knot tied . The problem is much better with the FG knot but it still exist . It is possible that some of the problem is with the "semi-micro" guides on the Shimano rod I use with this set up . I read a suggestion online that this problem may be caused by the leader being too long allowing the knot to become more unruly before it hits the first guide . Tried that with little if any help . The knocking of the knot as it passes through the guides seems to limit casting distance - I know the game is more about accuracy than distance but the extra effort needed could possibly increase the percentage of stray cast and , believe me , I don't need that . Bottom line , is there any solution to my problem with the knot and guides . The bait monkey has been on me hard to buy a rod without the semi-micro guides but thought I would ask for yall's opinion before I gave in to the monkey . Thanks
  23. Don't know if it will work through check out but they are listed here : https://www.tackledirect.com/missile-baits-drop-craw.html Sorry for the post . "Not available at this time"
  24. Dobyns SA 704C . Thanks again to members here who advised me to get this . Love it !
