  1. Newest addition to the lineup. Diawa Steez A and Megabass Destroyer P5 Madbull Full lineup Steez A, Madbull P5 Metanium, NRX+ 854 JWR Metanium, GLX 844 MBR Curado 150 MGL, GLX 843 MBR Curado 150 MGL, Orochi XX EMTF Curado DC, Levante Diablo Spec R SLX DC, Dobyns Fury 7'3 Heavy (could be for sale) SLX XT, SLX 7' MH (Could be for sale)
  2. While the weather starts to finally warm up here in Iowa, I'm itching to buy one more combo before I officially get out on the water. This urge really comes from me wanting to get my hands on a Diawa reel (I've only fished with Shimano). I'm trying to identify gaps in techniques, or a better technique specific combo. Here's my current combos and what I use them for: SLX XT, Dobyns Fury 7'3 Heavy (Frogs, larger walking baits, whopper ploppers, buzzbaits) SLX DC, SLX 7' MH (pretty much all purpose) Curado DC, Megabass Lavante Diablo Spec R (Chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs) Curado 150MGL, Megabass Orochi XX EMTF (Crankbaits of all depths) Curado 150MGL, GLoomis GLX 843 MBR, (finesse/compact jigs, light chatterbaits, light T Rigs) Metanium, GLoomis GLX 844 MBR (heavier all purpose 1/2oz and more) Metanium, GLoomix NRX+ 854C (Pitching/flipping cover with T Rigs and full size Jigs) Note: I'm primarily a shallow water fisherman due to location and lakes around me. Most water around me is under 20ft, and 90% of the time I'm fishing <10ft of water. Diawa reels I've been looking at - Steez A, Steez SV TW, Zillion SV. The only thing I've really noticed here that concerns me is the 80mm handle on the Steez SV (not sure how big of a deal that is) Rods I've been I've been looking at - Megabass P5 models, The Dark Sleeper or the Madbull. (open to others) My current thought is getting a nice higher end rod to throw Chatterbaits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs etc, and Selling my Curado DC/Levante and possibly my SLX DC with SLX rod. ?‍♂️ Thanks for any and all input!
  3. I have the GLX 843MBR and the Orochi EMTF, I prefer the EMTF if you're casting further, but I'm not sure you can go wrong with either.
  4. Hopefully this helps. I have 2 of these reels, and the green isn't that noticeable. You def have to hold it in the right light to really make it out. I think this reel looks fantastic, and works just as well. I've added another image, since I was in my last post
  5. Little update as I’m sure everyone was on the edge of their seat, but I pulled the trigger on an 854. Appreciate everyone’s help!
  6. Perfect, that was my concern with the 4 power. But This makes me feel better. I appreciate everyones input!
  7. Haha this hits so close to home. Luckily I like the simpler side of looks, but in this case, simple is more expensive. I keep finding myself coming back to the 854C and the 873C. My only worries for the 854 is that I do like to throw T Rigs with 1/4-3/8oz weights, hopefully that's not too light for it.
  8. This really helps out! I think its safe to eliminate the X Bites. I have done some research into the Tachyon shaft, which seems super interesting. Do you have experience with the 854/894 and the Steez AGS? Interested to hear your thoughts on the difference between them, sensitivity, weight, and action wise
  9. I'm open to other suggestions, these are just where I had landed originally
  10. Appreciate it guys, looks like I can check the 893 off the list. Now I just need to figure out the length.
  11. Looking to invest into my first high end specific bottom contact rod. Technique - Pitching/Flipping around tree laydowns, and some minimal grass. Mostly mud bottom, but some rock scattered in Presentation - 3/8-1/2oz pitching jigs, and 1/4-3/8oz Texas Rigs Max depth - 12ft, 90% of the time we're probably fishing 2-8ft The 3 rods I've really been focusing my time and research into are: NRX+854 JWR NRX+ 893/894 JWR Megabass P5 X Bites Now I'm primarily fishing from a boat with 2 of my buddies, so the 7ft rod helps with pitching as I have someone standing close to me most of the time. But I have a 7'5" Orochi XX EMTF that I fish as well, and it hasn't became an issue yet. The NRX+ Seems to be the gold standard when it comes to bottom contact from what I can gather, and I do have 2 GLX MBRs (the 843 and 844) I've used the 843 for finesse jigs and I kind of grown to like that softer tip for jigs. I just purchased the 844 to use for jigs over that 3/8oz mark (haven't had a chance to use it yet), but I'm leaning on turning that more into an all around rod, and getting a rod dedicated for bottom contact. I have 2 Megabass rods, a Levante, and an EMTF. And as a whole, I really enjoy those rods as well. So the TL;DR version - Anyone with experience with the NRX+ 854/893/894, and/or the Megabass X Bites, can you give me pros and cons. My main question about the the NRX+ is do I go with the 854 or the 893/894. I'm not casting long distances, so I'm not sure if the 893/894 has any more value over the 854, but I'm all ears if there is. From my research, it sounds like the 894 has a softer tip due to the length over the 854, which I kind of find appealing. And the X Bites rod is 7'2, but has a pretty parabolic bend as well. I like the reel seat design on the X Bites, but from what I've seen their cork grip isn't on the same level as the NRX. And I do like the G Loomis warranty. So as you can see, I'm kind of stuck. Really appreciate any feedback.
  12. What a catch! I couldn't imagine running into a bass of that size, the state record here is the same size you just posted lol. Congrats!
  13. To quote the above, I have an GLX 843MBR and I love it, I think that 3/8oz spinnerbait would work very well on that rod. I'm sure there's a better rod more dedicated to a spinnerbait, but that 843MBR is really universal. I enjoyed fishing with it so much, I bought an 844MBR as well.
  14. I looked into it, and in my state, We're only allowed a max of 2 hooks on an A Rig
  15. Yeah the 843 feels a little light for something like that, I'll probably go with my 844 or Dobyns. I just ordered my 844 so not sure how "stout" it feels yet.
