I recently purchased a 7' Dobyns Champion XP 702SF ML, which I plan to use for drop shots and ned rigs. Now I am looking for advice on spinning reels under $250. I'm planning on using 10 lb braid to 8 lb fc leader on the ML. I occasionally fish spots in the U.P. with fallen trees and sunken timber, so sometimes I do need to get smallies in quickly.
I was thinking possibly a Stradic FL 3000 (I've read the handle is nicer than the Stradic FL 2500) or the Vanford 2500? I used a President XT C30 with my ML setup last year, and I hated it. The reel itself felt cheap - I'm not sure how to describe it, but it was as if it was a bit wobbly when I'd reel. I also hated the handle.
I went to Sportsmans Warehouse to compare the Vanford and the Stradic FL, but they only had the Vandords in stock. The 2000 felt tiny, they didnt have the 2500, and the 3000 felt really nice. I have heard that the Vanford feels less durable than the Stradic. Thoughts? Any other reels that I should consider? Has anyone fished the Tatula, Stradic, and Vanford?
I also just purchased a 7' Dobyns Sierra M 703 SF. I'll be using 15 lb braid with 8 lb fc leader with primarily heavier drop shots and wacky rigs. I have an old 3000 Symetre FJ that I have always really liked, but I'm wondering how much of an upgrade some other reels might be. Looking to stay under $250 for each reel.
Thanks!
