  1. What Zodias would be better - 6'9" Med Lt or the 7' Med Lt
  2. Did you go with the Zodias? Interested to hear your thoughts on the Zodias, as I am looking for a similar rod.
  3. I was thinking ultra light finesse, drop shot, wacky, ned, neko, smalll swimbaits, etc...
  4. Hey guys, I have a Shimano Ci4 1000 reel that I originally bought for trout fishing and I was wondering if I could use it for double duty for bass as well? I would also like your guys opinions on choosing a rod to go with the reel? Willing to spend $300 max, however I would like to spend less.
  5. Well, it seems that nobody other than TNBankFishing, is willing to match up the reels, and provide bait suggestions for each rod and reel. Thank you TNBankFishing, I really appreciate your help! Tom - I do agree that high end rods and reels are not necessary to catch bass, however it certainty does not hurt. I may argue that having more sensitivity high end rod, could result in more hookups, that otherwise may go undetected in a lessor quality rod, but not necessary. I was gifted everything on my list except for the Dobyns Rods that I got 2 of them at 40% off, and the other 2 at $139 ea. My family just wanted to make an ole guy like myself happy and buy me stuff for a change. I personally would not have bought this high end stuff, but I sure will use it once I figure out how to optimize what I have. I went out to Castiac and tried out the MB whipsnake with the Vanford with 10# braid to 10# fluoro leader, because that's the only obvious pairing that I have. Tried a variety of finesse approaches and practiced my hunting skills so to say. Just to be clear, this isn't my first rodeo, only new to Freshwater Bass fishing, so I thought, wow what better place to get some help to figure this out than the highly touted Bass Resource forums. Anyway, that's enough rambling for now. I will make one last effort to get assistance with my puzzle of optimizing the equipment I currently have, and what baits to use on each setup. Thanks in advance. Current Rods and Reels: RODS: Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Dobyns Champ DC 734C FH XP Dobyns Champ DC 736CB GLASS XP Dobyns Fred Roumbanis Utility Rod DC 703C FR Dobyns Fred Roumbanis Crankbait Rod DC 705CB FR REELS: 2 - Shimano JDM 2021 Scorpion DC HG 1 - Shimano JDM Metanium DC HG 1 - Shimano Metanium DC XG 1 - Shimano Curado DC XG
  6. Thanks for your thoughts. I appreciate it! Does anybody else have some input? I would love more ideas to help me figure this out.
  7. Hey guys, so I am fairly new to bass fishing and just got back into bass fishing at the end of last year. I am trying to match up the following reels to the rods below, and was hoping you guys could help me out. It would also be great if you guys had any tips for what to throw on each setup. I do have 1 spinning rod, Megabass Orochi XX Whipsnake that is paired with a Shimano Vanford 2500. Almost all of this stuff below was gifted to me from my family, except for the Dobyns Rods I just purchased. RODS: Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Dobyns Champ DC 734C FH XP Dobyns Champ DC 736CB GLASS XP Dobyns Fred Roumbanis Utility Rod DC 703C FR Dobyns Fred Roumbanis Crankbait Rod DC 705CB FR REELS: 2 - Shimano JDM 2021 Scorpion DC HG 1 - Shimano JDM Metanium DC HG 1 - Shimano Metanium DC XG 1 - Shimano Curado DC XG
  8. Thanks everyone for all your thoughts on this so far! So now I was hoping that you could all tell me what baits to throw on each of the rods below that I have, and what the next rod would be for me to purchase? Currently have: Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Megabass Orochi XX Whipsnake Dobyns Champ DC 734C FH XP Dobyns Champ DC 736CB GLASS XP Dobyns Fred Roumbanis Utility Rod DC 703C FR Dobyns Fred Roumbanis Crankbait Rod DC 705CB FR
  9. Anybody else have any thoughts on getting 2 more Dobyns Rods before the sales are over? Trying to figure this all out. Just got back into Bass fishing at the and of last year, after many years of not fishing. Still waiting on delivery of the 2 Dobyns rods below. Currently have: Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Megabass Orochi XX Whipsnake Dobyns Champ DC 734C FH XP Dobyns Champ DC 736CB GLASS XP
  10. Hey guys, so I picked up a Dobyns Champ XP 734 and a 736 Glass. I am looking to add to more Dobyns Rods before the sales are over. I still need a crank bait rod, and do not want to go over 7' 4", and also would like to pick up another rod, but not sure what one. What two rods would you guys recommend?
  11. With the current sale on Dobyns rods, I was thinking to load up on rods for a variety of different techniques. Currently I have two Megabass rods - a Orochi XX Whipsnake, and a Orochi XX Perfect Pitch. I really like both of these rods. I also have a couple Daiwa Ardito travel rods, (1, 7'6" spinning, 1, 7"casting), that I purchased because of recent traveling requirements. I was thinking to load up on some Dobyns Champion XP rods, to fill the many gaps of rods that I am missing for a variety of techniques. It would be great if you guys could send me down the right path to load up on a bunch of these rods to fill the gap. I really appreciate all your help. Can't wait to buy a gift card from tw, and then take advantage of the current sales on Dobyns rods. Thanks in advance.
  12. Hey Guys, Thanks for your thoughts. First off I think the Champion XP with the discount is probably the sweet spot for the bang for your buck. I am thinking that for the big deep divers 6XD plus to 10 XD's, I am leaning towards the Champion XP 805CB, however I am hesitant because it is an 8' rod. I am still not sure what rod to get for the smaller baits smaller than 6XD, 704 CB, 705CB, 734CB, 735CB, 764CB, 765CB? So many choices? I am also interested in other rods for the smaller cranks that I may have not listed. Not opposed to getting 3 rods for cranking.
  13. Looking to pickup some Dobyns Rods to use for Crankbaits. Never used Dobyns rods before, and I was wondering what models are best for crankbaits? I was also wondering if I should get Champion XP, Sierra, Kaden or the Fury line. Hoping you guys can give me your thoughts?
  14. Thank everyone for all of the replies, I appreciate it. I would love to here from others so I can make a decision on what approach to go with. Maybe I am asking too much to use one rod for so many techniques? At some point I will build up different setups to handle isolated techniques, just trying to start somewhere to get my feet wet. Thank you all!
  15. Thank you for your reply! So potential 30# braid (What brand) with 15# Fluro leader, if I wont to keep a frog tied? Otherwise straight 15# Fluro. Thank you for your reply! So potential 30# braid with a frog tied, or 12-15# Fluro without the frog, and 14# mono for bigger top water baits. Thank you for your reply! This is interesting, so just going 50# braid, (what brand), and using 16 # Fluro leader.
  16. Hi All, I just ordered a Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch Rod, and I would like all your expert opinions on what line brand and weight/# to use for all the different techniques/baits this rod can handle. From what I have read this rod can handle (Texas rigs, jigs, frogs, small swimbaits, small umbrella rigs, oversized squarebills. Magnum bladed jigs, mag topwaters, light flipping/punching). Not sure what size/weight for each of these techniques/baits? So my questions are, assuming from a frog point of view, that I use straight braid 30,40,50,65#, can I use one of these weight/# braids and still just add a leader of Fluro/Mono, (what brand and #, and what length leader for each technique) for each of these other techniques/baits? Just to give you some background, this is my first post, and I am an ol guy that is getting back into Bass fishing. There was a time I wanted to be a professional Bass fisherman. I even attended a Don Iovino seminar way back when, late 70's, early 80's not sure, been so long. Met a women, marriage, kids, grandchildren, fast forward, and here we are. I really appreciate all of your input, I am stuck here in So Cal for at least another year, however I will be moving eventually to hunt for Bass. Thank you!
