  1. In your opinion, how does Basix compare to Red Label? I recently got a spool of 15# Red Label to replace my 14# Berkley Vanish that I use as leader material. I was very impressed with the abrasion resistance with Red Label in comparison to the Vanish I had been using for years, at one point getting hung up in a tree and eventually ripping it free in a manner which would’ve shredded my old leader, but upon inspection the Red Label was almost undamaged. As it is leader I don’t mind the wiry stiffness of the Red Label, but if Basix offers an improvement in knot strength or abrasion resistance I would consider the switch.
  2. Basix is more abrasion resistant than Red Label? Where are you getting this info from? I’ve never owned Basix, genuinely curious.
  3. I think it’s important to distinguish between J hooks and circle hooks. What you see on inshore plugs and such are usually not circle hooks, they are J hooks with an open gape to allow for a good hookup.
  4. 7.98lb. April 24th, with a 3/8oz Molix Kento jig in Wild Craw with a Zoom Z-Craw Jr. in Cali 420 as a trailer. This jig was recommended to me by @GetFishorDieTryin and I don’t believe I ever got to thank him, so thanks!!! It’s become my go-to jig, I carry it in 1/4oz and 3/8oz weights & Wild Craw and Black-Blue-Purple colors. Been meaning to get some 1/2oz for lake fishing too.
  5. Ordered another one from academy’s website. If it’s a defective reel I’ll just be returning the first one, and if it’s a design flaw I’ll be returning them both. I’ll update when it gets here.
  6. Yeah, I’ll be taking it back. I was mostly just curious if this could be a problem inherent with the design or if this is just a defective reel, as this was the only one they had in stock.
  7. Purchased a brand new Concept C2 from Academy the other day. Freespooled great, smooth cranking. But as soon as I tighten it down on the reel seat, it gets extremely grindy. It will not freespool at all. Im not overtightening it either, as soon as I take out the wobble in the reel seat there is already friction on the spool. I can literally spin the spool and then tighten the reel seat down and watch it grind to a halt. I assume it’s flexing and causing friction on the spool, but I can’t visually see any difference has anyone experienced anything like this? Is this just a one-off incident? This is the most expensive reel I’ve ever bought and it’s not really inspiring confidence.
  8. Best advice on how to care for sunglasses is to stop using bug spray with DEET! I’ve melted a couple lenses before I learned that one and switched to Hawk Soap Co spray. but yes, I also clean my sunglasses the same way, works a dream.
  9. Do you have an Academy near you? Their house brand’s whopper plopper knockoff is pretty darn good. https://www.academy.com/p/h2o-xpress-double-plop-bait?sku=american-bullfrog
  10. I’d suggest scrolling around Facebook marketplace, you’d be able to find something pretty nice for 5k if you’re patient. I’ve seen plenty of 1990’s aluminum 16/17ft bass boats in that range. Something like a Lowe Stinger 170 or a Sea Nymph Bass Attacker would do well, also other tin boats by Monark, Alumacraft, Fisher, Grumman, and of course Tracker. There’s also Facebook group, “cheap bass boats under $10,000”, it’s got over 150,000 members. There’s a few posts per day over there, I’d give it a look if you wanted to spend a bit more or see what the market’s like. I’ve been looking at similar boats in that price range and have been saving the listings, the good deals go extremely fast but it’s not too uncommon to find things like this ‘94 Lowe 170 with a Johnson 70hp for $4k (I’ve found five near me in the past couple months)
  11. Z-craw jr, I like Green Pumpkin, Cali 420, and Junebug. Straight catches fish
  12. Hello, this is my first post on the forum after lurking a while and I'm hoping some of y'all can help me. I am looking for a higher quality version of the Strike King Bitsy Flip. Essentially, a downsized pitching jig around 3/0. I am unsatisfied with the Strike King's quality control (inconsistent brush guards) and their lower quality skirts. Can anyone vouch for the quality of these jigs? ($2.79) Booyah Baby Boo Jigs ($3.75) D&L Tackle Pro Series Baby Advantage Jigs I'm especially interested in the quality of the skirts. Just bought some Googan jigs and I absolutely love the skirt material, but they don't make a downsized pitching jig sadly. Thanks guys
