  1. My understanding is less leverage in the sense that a longer rod pulls the fish straight up out of the cover more than through it. Not so much the physics definition of leverage.
  2. Any chance you have tried hollow belly frogs on the fast tip?
  3. Does shimano have a good warranty?
  4. Is there any reason not to buy the JDM Twin Power over the US? I’m looking at a deal right now for a U.S. Twin Power for 355, but the JDM is still cheaper at 290
  5. Oddly enough they don’t have a lot of videos on this rod specifically. On the one video they mentioned it, they just suggested a 300 or even 400 size, which isn’t helpful because weights range so drastically between models. They all have a weight inserted at the very butt, but to me that’s actually why the rods balance so well. Maybe I should stick to 2500 like you said, but go with a model heavier than the Vanford? With the 2500 Vanford on it, the rod is just a little tip heavy. I am also trying to use a gift card I recently got, so JDM isn’t my first choice. Any thoughts on the Twin Power or Sustain? Something else entirely?
  6. I know this is an old post, but I recently got a Flyssa and to me it is THE rod. Haven’t spent a ton of time with it yet, but it seems to be spanking every other rods I’ve tried for this type of fishing. My only issue I’m having right now is finding a reel to pair with it. I have a few Shimano Vanford 2500s, but they’re too light for such a long rod. Currently throwing an old Sedona on it (because it’s heavy) which balances nicely, but the reel just feels so clunky in comparison to the Vanfords I usually fish. Any reel suggestions for a 7’6” light+ hair jig rod?
  7. Just bought a Megabass Destroyer P5 Flyssa and wondering what reel to pair with it. A have a Vanford’s on my P5 Addermine because they balance really well together, but wondering if something heavier would be better balanced since the rod is 7’6”. Thinking a Sustain FJ 3000? Maybe stick with Vanford and bump up a size? Any suggestions?
  8. Sell me on it please lol. I’ve narrowed it down to a few. I’m looking at picking up one of the following. - OneTen Stick - Dark Sleeper - Madbull That being said I do really like my current jerkbait rod, just keep hearing awesome stuff on the 110 stick I’m getting fomo.
  9. That’s crazy to me that the JDM rods would be made in China while the US rods are not. Weird that they wouldn’t be made in the same factory/country for consistency and convenience
  10. I have no experience with it, but for nose hooked it should be great. If you already own it, just put it to the test for both applications. Personal use with a rod will always trump advice given here anyways since we all fish differently.
  11. I believe the P5 rods are made in Vietnam which has become a great place for manufacturing quality. At least mine were. Not sure about JDM version. Would rather Japanese made, but this is much better in my eyes than made in China.
  12. There is a used one currently available at American Legacy Fishing for $340 I believe I know this is basically a whole new topic but thought I’d try here first before creating a new thread. Are the power ratings on the JDM and USA rods a totally different system? I was browsing Megabass’ website and realized that the F6 FMJ (USA) is listed as medium heavy and the F5.5 X-Bites (JDM) is listed as a heavy. Confused I am.
  13. It has a Shimano Vanford on it right now. I’ve never really bought spinning gear this expensive, so might upgrade eventually, but right now it feels really good in hand.
  14. St. Croix LBTC 68MXF “Jerkbaits” I’ve heard a lot of people say they go Steez or NRX+ for bottom contact specific then use P5 for moving. But online and from my local shop I’m hearing people state that the new FMJ has taken over that role for them. They no longer feel like they need to go outside of the line. Definitely was part of my reasoning for purchasing it, but I don’t have the others for personal comparison.
  15. Even though I was managing just fine with the 73MLXF, someone reached out selling an Expride with the plastic still on it. Great rod and SUPER versatile, but wasn’t what I’m looking for. Debating selling it or just repurposing. Might sell the Victory too now… Ended up truly biting the bullet and getting a Megabass Destroyer P5 Addermine at a big discount locally. It is amazingly sensitive. Perfect rod for what I was looking for. Man that was a slippery slope…
  16. Hook Up Tackle has a ton of Megabass jerkbait rod break downs. If you haven’t checked out their YouTube page I’d start there. Tactical Bassin (who normally stay true to the Expride 610 over all other jerkbait rods no matter the price) said the 110 stick has the perfect action like the expride, but in a more expensive rod. I have also heard the 110 stick is best for lighter jerkbaits (1/4 to 3/8, but can handle 1/2) and the 110 special does much better with full size 1/2 oz and above, but not as good below 3/8. I’m currently using the St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass jerkbait rod and really can’t see myself upgrading. It’s perfect to me. I mostly fish the 110 Jr. + 1 or the regular 110.
  17. Recently picked up the Megabass Destroyer P5 FMJ and Addermine rods in a large fall sale at my local shop. Never thought I would take the plunge, but very happy I did. Just curious, what are your guys’ favorite rods from this line?
  18. Just wanted to add this in for anyone in the future looking for a DS rod. I swapped out my Victory 73MXF for my 73MLXF this weekend and can feel the bottom/grass/bites much better. I always thought this rod was too soft for DS in heavy-ish grass but it has handled fish very well. Might still get a higher end DS rod as I’ve been falling in love with the technique, but can definitely wait till next spring at this point.
  19. In my home Lake the blue gill/green sunfish/warmouth stay shallow all summer long. Crappie and shad tend to stay out deep until it cools. Bass seem to start the spring shallow, move deep, and return shallow in fall as expected. I’m assuming they’re following the shad, but it is interesting to me they don’t seem to care about the large amount of sunfish that stay shallow. Maybe they just have bait in both locations and it’s all temperature related movement. Who knows honestly.
  20. Which do you find more sensitive?
  21. I feel like the 7’3” MXF has the right action I’m looking for, just feels like I’m missing out on sensitivity. I’ve been a St. Croix rod with Daiwa reel guy for a while. My whole line up is few Victory’s and many LTB, as I was trying to keep feel as consistent as possible throughout. That was until I picked up a 73XH Expride for frogs and realized how nice other rods could feel comparatively. It’s a XF that feels like my 7’5” MH I hand. Kind of going through a rod and reel crisis right now and starting to feel like my attempt to keep everything the same is now causing me to miss out on better rods. Going through a bit of a rod combo crisis lol. I’ll definitely do some research on these though. Thanks.
  22. Exactly what I was hoping to hear. Thank you. How’s the sensitivity on it? The only Expride I have is the 73 XH for frogs, so thought to tell how the line is as a whole. In the past the walleye rods were always much more moderate than the bass models but maybe they changed that. Not sure.
  23. It’s a super duper soft tip but isn’t what I would consider bouncy because the taper is also super fast and goes right into backbone.
  24. I’m not so lucky. I have loved this rod for many applications, but it feels dead in the hand with the drop shot in grass. Lost a fish earlier today because I simply missed the bite. Wasn’t till the line started running away that I set the hook, but was a hair too late. When I do catch them it’s all from watching the tip of the rod. Not so easy when working the bait.
