  1. I have over 20 setups. Various colored rods and reels. I don’t choose the 5 I’m taking out based on power and action, but rather color. I don’t want my setups clashing with my kayak color and clothing ensemble.
  2. Experience is a wonderful teacher.
  3. 13 fish? How many do you catch when you’re not practicing?
  4. Rapala Skitter-prop Rapala Flat Rap spinnerbait jig-n-pig
  5. It would probably be worth paying to meet with a knowledgeable, local tax attorney. …or CPA
  6. It is more likely that the Creme Scoundrel was the best mimic of a bait fish native to the pond.
  7. Go with largest diameter mono or co-poly that your reel calls for. Braid would be my last choice unless you go with a flouro leader. I suspect the lost fish on 10# mono was due to damaged line or improper drag.
  8. I would suggest a properly sized 2-piece. Since you will probably be using it primarily as a back-up to your pedal drive, I don’t think you need to spend a lot on it. The Ascend Trek or Ascend Tournament would be good choices. You can use one of the pieces as a sculling or hand-held paddle to correct your float or adjust your position when fishing. Again, the most important thing is properly sized. The wrong length paddle can wear you out. There are a number of sites on-line that provide sizing guidelines.
  9. I’m sure you weren’t alone in that WP rabbit hole. But, that’s what happens when you make decisions based on what a pro does. ?
  10. Yum Christie Craw Bama Magic (roll tide ) and Green Pumpkin …both naked and as jig trailers. Both caught fish in 43* clear water on a couple trips to the Potomac.
  11. Not a stupid question. I’ve done this to larger weight spinnerbaits with skirt and blade colors not available in smaller sizes. I use a pair of flush cut pliers to trim bottom and rear of head, file it smooth, and repaint. I’ve never seen the need to worry about blade size because they catch fish.
  12. 20lb braid and 6lb flouro leader is what I’ve settled on and been using for a few years on the river. It has never let me down. I keep leaders in the 8’-10’ range.
  13. That would be like bringing your own silverware to a dinner party. The guide is being retained to ensure you have the best opportunity to catch fish. He can best meet that expectation only if he is certain that the equipment matches the conditions he anticipates encountering. Let him do his job. Leave your stuff at home.
  14. Ah man. You could have waited for a few more replies.
  15. A pro angler has as much influence over my choice about anything fishing as a NASCAR driver has over my choice of soft drink, candy or car battery. None.
