This is probably a lame question, but I am just starting to use a Buckeye Flicket lure and was wondering: Should I or should I not, insert weights (like Gambit screw sinkers straight), or should I remove them from the head of the lures? would make a big difference when casting, but might prevent the "action" from occurring on the way down to the bottom.

For some, this is probably a lame question; however, for me, a relatively new bass fisherman (81 years old)... it is needed... for instance, I have been trying to use Drop Shot rigging, with no luck... I am assuming the Wacky Rig bait goes on the end of the leader so the Wacky Rig lure rests on the bottom.. Is that correct? if not, how/where is the Wacky rig positioned?

I am attempting to make my own drop-shot-rigs; That said, I'm using braided line (Sufix 832 20#) and Seraguar 10lb FC to create the Drop-shot-rigging itself. I fish from shore 90% of the time. My question is: what should be the suggested "total" length of the FC part of the rig? I assume that if the water is deeper than the shore the necessary needed length will be taken up by the braided line, but what would be a good general purpose length for this method of setting up the rig?

Tom Young: That's another question I have: I have rigged about a dozen "sticks" with the hook in the center using Finesse Wacky Saddles... my question is: do I cast it as far as I can and then let it lie flat on the bottom where it landed, or is there something I need to do to keep it off the bottom? or? Hi... each morning this week, I have gone to my local lake (Long Lake), tossed my fish finder (Venterior Wireless) and watch the fish on the bottom cross the sonar so, I know there are fish there; The problem is, I toss one of almost everything I have: (tubes, weedless football jigs, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, Wacky rigs, small GitZit baits, etc). I'm ignored! and when I cast my spinning rod, the bait goes off to the right side (no wind). I'm sure there are several things I'm doing wrong.... can someone enlighten me? A book or link to an excellent article would probably help, I just can't find what I need. Thanks in advance! SpokaneDude I forgot to mention, I'm fishing from a fairly high bank...and the fry are chasing my lures when I retrieve them for re-casting.

Do you go through the bait, up into the flat top of the saddle? Or go directly under the flat top of the saddle and then puncture a hole in the flat part with the hook? There's pro's and con's and since I have never used them, I'm trying for a consensus, with reasons why one way or the other! Thank you, SpokaneDude

I think I found the answer to the braided line question: From Google search: Suffix 832 does not sink. Suffix is just more neutrally buoyant because of the strand of GoreTex in it. Bummer... I need a decent length FC leader... oh well, better to know that now, than when I'm on the bank fishing!

Jar11591: let me ask you another question not related to weight or hook: I have read that braided line (in my case Sufix 832, 15lb Low Vis Green).. will not sink with the light jig rig... so, do I use a long leader (15') or is what I read not absolutely correct, maybe depending on the particular brand of braid? Helloo all... I'm getting ready for the season to open, and have decided to try fishing tube baits! So, I bought an assortment of 4 1/2" hollow tube baits (Strike King Coffee Tubes); Now, how do I match tube jig hooks to those baits? I purchased a package of Strike King 3/8 oz Tube Jig Heads, (unknown size hook), and a package of TroKar (Eagle Claw) Tube Jigs, 3/16oz, 3/0 size hook. Was I safe buying them? What determines which Jig Head to use on the Strike King baits I purchased? As always, I am looking for your comments and opinions (I caught my first Bass last season) SpokaneDude (Spokane, WA)

I found a Penn Squadron III Surf Spinning Fishing Rod Titanium/Red/Gold, 10' - Medium Heavy - 15-30lb - 2pc for $70 on Amazon... I think it will work, since it's similar to what you have suggested... and I'm familiar with the Penn name

Hey Guys... the weight of the sonar sensor is 2 pounds, not two ounces! It's 1/2 of a Namo Fish Finder.

I hope someone can help me find the proper rod for this; I don't have to get out very far, maybe less than 60 feet in still waters... looking for Bass of course! I just don't want to break the rod and lose the sensor! I already have the reel (Revros LT 2000) bought a few years back... I was thinking along the line of a 7' heavy, fast tip and use 50lb braided line (not sure of weight I need) TIA... SpokaneDude I need to edit parts of my post: Reel is a Diawa BG 3000 tossing 50 lb braid... sorry, couldn't figure out how to edit the original above!

Thanks everybody..,. varied responses, really hard to pick a solution, each has a point, depending on when they are being used.

I ask this because I am unable to use any of my soft plastic baits due to low water in the lake; however, I have time on my hands to get my few rods prepared for the coming season when the lake is at full capacity,. So, I have been putting new line on my spinning gear, and tying Prime Snap Minis for ease in changing components. I plan to attach Chatterbaits to the Snaps along with assorted tails. Question is: can I do this in advance us actually using them, without any damage to the tails, IF I keep them in a cool dark closet? Comments are most appreciated... For what's it worth... I'm basically on my 2nd season of Bass fishing... (unable to become unhooked! ? )

I forgot to mention, that I would use size 3 (large) clips.

I am a BIG fan of Rio Fly Clips; my question is: Is there any reason I couldn't use them with all my soft baits, and especially Chatterbaits?

I'm trying to create a leader using 8# Seaguar Fluorocarbon and 20# braided fibers (Sufix 832)... I follow the directions to the 'T' until step 4: "Hold the loose ends and remove the pick. Remove the loose knot by depressing the levers. Tighten the knot by simultaneously pulling on each main strand; " Question is: what is the "main strand"? is that the short free strands? or the long strands going to the line and leader? How do I tell if I did it correctly? I'm not sure I'm doing it correctly so tthe knot is strong enough to be a leader. TIA... Spokane Dude
