  1. I still don't like the Ardito, so I'm returning it. I'm ordering a St. Croix "Medium-Light" because I've read they run a little stiff. True?
  2. Tip heavy would be more accurate. With firearms, some people like the muzzle (end of the firearm) to be heavy to steady their shots. I prefer a more rearward balance. Maybe I should try one. Any other choices? I'll test cast a little and see if the feel improves. Maybe I'll wrap lead wire around the butt to bring the balance backwards.
  3. I just bought a couple of travel spinning rods recently and have some questions. The first was a Shimano Clarus medium-light fast two-piece rod. It felt fine, though a little "muzzle heavy." (My wife will use the Clarus.) The second was the real problem - an Ardito-TR three-piece medium fast rod. Had I felt in it the store I might have guessed "heavy fast." It was too stiff, and it was really muzzle heavy. I'm returning the Ardito and looking for another travel bass rod. Is the St. Croix venture medium fast stiffer than true medium or do I need to move to medium-light, or medium-heavy? How does it balance? Is there something else I should be looking at in that price ($80 - $110) range? There's no great hurry - my light four-piece trout rod will handle all the bass I'm likely to catch from the lake shores I fish.
  4. The Pendulum Cast does appear to be the solution for me. I haven't used it with a leader yet, let alone fished with it - I'm just practicing basic motions and timing the pendulum - but I think it will get me there. Thanks. Is this suitable for Senko baits and six-pound test line? There's enough g-force in its direction change leading up to the forward cast that makes me think this might be purely a dedicated lure cast. Most of the instructional videos were using surf rods and heavy weight, however.
  5. Yes, like a Carolina Rig. I'll look at some YouTubes for pendulum cast. Thanks.
  6. This is reassuring, basically. Cast the same way I always do but don't expect a beautiful result.
  7. I've never fished with long leaders, even if I should have, so I don't know whether I'm bringing it behind me like a fly rod or something else.
  8. I received my LT2500S-XH and it is a thing of beauty. As described above, the user manual is in Japanese, with pictures. I can understand how not to rinse the reel, and how put line on the spool, not to oil the line roller. The other things are obscure. For instance, it shows using a container with a tube on the bail bearings (?), but I'm not sure if that's lube or compressed air. Another pic (entitled "TB") shows twisted line on the reel and on the rod - seems pretty important, but I have no idea what the text means. Another is entitled "Long Cast - ABS" that shows line off of the front of the spool - no idea. I would appreciate interpretations if you have any.
  9. I had some trouble with credit card verification at Digitaka - something called "3D Secure" that my Apple Card wasn't registered for - so I canceled that order I bought a Daiwa 19 Certate LT2500S-XH from Asian Portal. It should arrive in the next week or so. Looking forward to it - the cheapest Daiwa spinning reel made in Japan (I think). This is aligned with my theory of buying the cheapest scotch with a cork.
  10. Thanks, I appreciate the help. I actually did find a list of Certate 21 saltwater reels, but wasn't sure if the list was all-encompassing. I'll go ahead with the Certate 19, after I decide what ratios, etc., to choose. Thank you. That's very helpful.
  11. I'm interested in buying a Daiwa Certate 2500 direct from Japan and wonder what that means down the line. I assume it means Daiwa US service center won't honor a warranty since I didn't buy through them, but will they even accept for repair a reel I bought direct? If not, will the seller in Japan handle warranties and would the shipping costs be worth it over a North American repair shop? (I've read in posts that needing warranty work is very rare.) Otherwise, is there a consensus regarding where to send them for service, which I will definitely need? I would imagine most of the paperwork (parts diagram, user manual, etc.) accompanying the reel would will be in Japanese. Where can I obtain paperwork written in English? Off the topic of paperwork, I'm in a quandary regarding whether to buy the current 2019 Certate since apparently the 2021 version has been introduced. I'd appreciate advice on that, too. Thanks.
  12. Hi. New guy here from south Texas. I've been fishing awhile but not hugely successfully. I've already learned a lot just by reading back posts and hope to learn more.
