  1. I’ve never fished with a baitcating reel before. All the pros are adamant that you should not throw a frog on a spinning reel according to a video I saw on Tylersreelfishing on YouTube. I’m pretty set in my ways but his video was rather convincing. I don’t know where to begin. Anyone have any advice on what combo to get for frogs? I’d prefer it to be a 7ft MH and be under $100 if possible. I know I’ll have to use braid but this pole will be strictly for frogs only. ?
  2. Whenever I get a good bass (2.5 plus up here) it always feels like I’m stuck on something but then I feel or see the line move.
  3. Yeah I’d be fine with that; I have zero issues with folks eating their kill. I just don’t want to see someone kill the fish accidentally just to release them. I’m sure the pros at BASS do it pretty well but I’m not sure how efficiently the local guys are at doing it.
  4. To be fair though I only get to fish once or twice a week, I average about 8-10 hours on the water a week just because of my schedule etc. They might be fishing more than me. But my senkos definitely last quite a bit because I use the o rings.
  5. I’ll typically buy 4 bags of GYCB senko #297 a year. Between that and new line, I typically spend about $50 in tackle a year. Sometimes a bit more if I’m upgrading something but I pretty much exclusively fish with senkos and top water. This year was expensive though because I bought a new kayak. I use to spend a lot on lures that I never really used, which was a waste. Now I only buy what I have confidence/ history with. It simplifies things and saves me money. But you can bet that I still look through that Bass Pro Master Catalog every year, just for fun ?. What state is this?! If New York did that I wouldn’t know what to do with myself.
  6. I’ve been wondering this a lot this summer whenever I see pictures of the local tournaments with people holding up their bass at weigh in. I just can’t imagine that it’s good for the bass. Would be interested to hear some statistics. Have heard stories of big kill at bodies of water that held trophies, but it’s word of mouth. I much prefer the MLF format or even the KBF for local tourneys. Not that I fish tournaments but I think that would be much easier on the bass.
  7. Old reliable.. GYCB senko #297
  8. Very nice! I was fishing with a senko but I will throw some top water next time. I was there 1pm- 6pm. Next time I will have to say hello, thank you for the tips! Sadly after you left a shore fisherman came and left their pole and a can of night crawlers on the shore when they left. I did meet a very nice couple though as I was leaving. Really look forward to coming back again.
  9. I think blind fishing on intuition is part of the joy of fishing. It’s why I don’t use electronics. I’m not against it or anything, but it takes the sport out of it a bit IMO.
  10. @Fred Allen I’m pretty sure I saw you there this afternoon. Saw someone fishing from a green kayak. I was in a seafoam colored Pelican kayak. The pond was good to me. The fishing was very slow but I did manage to get one good bass that kept the skunk away. I will definitely be back.
  11. I hear ya, we’re in the dog days of summer. But fall is coming soon! There’s always night crawlers when all else fails ?
  12. I mostly fish ponds because it’s easier for me to read and obviously cover in my kayak. Just stick with the good old GYCB senko WR. It’s a tough bait to beat in ponds.
  13. I’ve never thought about that, have been fortunate so far as this hasn’t happened to me.. yet. Plan on taking your advice and doing the hand wrap.

  15. Threw into some heavy green pond scum with a senko and pulled this out.
  16. Saw a video on YouTube once where he lost a tournament in a sudden death round; he had a fit, broke his rod and then threw it in the lake. We all have our moments but that left a very bad impression on me. It’s the throwing the rod in the lake that bothers me.
  17. I store mine on its side in the basement.
  18. I tend to obsess over scratches on my hull but I know it’s not healthy to do so. Being that I always carry my kayak and am careful with it, the odds of actually doing any damage that goes beyond being superficial is rather low. Getting scratches is part of the experience, I need to remind myself of that.
  19. How/ why would this happen?
  20. Sorry for what may be a stupid question but is he related to Roland Martin?
  21. Nice! I’d say you won on this quick excursion.
  22. Welcome! You will learn so much here, this forum is a treasure trove of solid information. Not to mention it’s fun too.
  23. Not a fan of braid. Don’t like tying knots with it, don’t want to hassle with having to tie it to mono before putting it on my reel, don’t want to cut my fingers on it. It’s just not my thing.
