  1. I would say go with a expride, if you want the safe bet. I would say go with a megabass orochi perfect pitch for a different one, probably my favorite but a little on the heavier side. There a great rod though. Third choice at croix legend tournament bass and there decent also. A lot of choices at the price point, but I think it’s about detecting the subtle differences in the feeling of the jig. I always have a finger on the line and watch it also.
  2. Off the wall I don’t always throw what you should throw when you should throw it. I fish the baits and colors that I want to, last year fishing a really clear lake throwing black and blue all the time paid off. Why you ask ? Because all I ever see people throw there is green pumpkin or watermelon variations, gotta show them something they have seen a million times in a different color. It’s just like I tell people that I don’t have any secret spots, I will tell you where I catch them. Most people think that is nuts, but it’s all how you work it. Be that traditional or off the wall.
  3. Yes I will lol, like I tell people when I get stuff at the store. I take a big duffel bag fishing and what do I throw, three things if I am lucky. Usually wading with a pocket of ziplock plastics and what I have tied on. I just like to keep myself sharp on multiple techniques even though I mainly throw jigs and plastics. Sad realization but true, it lies all with me. At least I won’t be lonely the monkeys can keep me company lol.
  4. Yep most certainly does, I had been fighting on the spinning reel since last summer. And finally decided to go for it. Yes I definitely have a problem, I like tackle and reels and rods way too much. But there’s a lot worse things that I could do. Oh well someday I might own a zoo lol.
  5. I have been meaning to get a decent spinning reel, I was having a hard time deciding between a Vanford, stradic, something daiwa. I finally decided and I wanted to get a jerk bait reel. I also grabbed some more jerk baits, going down the jerk bait rabbit hole is proving to be expensive over time. Then I stopped by Ollie’s and bought some more lucky craft jerk baits and crank baits for $6 a piece not too shabby.
  6. Thanks for the insight, I appreciate it. Those combos definitely look good
  7. Yeah the only place that I can find them around here is one store, Dunham’s Sports, they never have a whole lot but sometimes they have different stuff. It’s sort of like fishing you know, the thrill of the hunt for the next new thing or fish lol. I have heard that they are a great cool water bait or trailer for swim jigs, if I remember correctly they have a very subtle action. But who knows what I can remember correctly anymore, been 6 weeks since I went to work due to medical issues. My brain is mush at this point.
  8. I used a slx xt, curado 150 mgl. Both of those reels did fine with it. The 844 is a very unique rod, powerful but has some give to it. I would say that it is good for moderate cover overall, last year I was fighting a 4.25lb fish out of a reed island with 14lb fluorocarbon and it felt good but it could have used a little bit more. But it worked so I keep using it.
  9. Yes they are good, I also really like beast coast tackle ones also. The ones that I really need to try are the siebert outdoors ones, they look amazing and everyone here says that they are the best ones out there.
  10. I would suggest the one rod that had done just about everything for me so far. That is a Conquest 844c MBR. I have thrown 2.8 keitech on a 1/8 owner flashy swimmer and even lighter stuff. I have thrown up to 1.1 oz setups on it, jigs, frogs, chatter baits, lipless, square bills, spinner baits, Texas rigs, walking baits. It’s an extremely versatile rod that can do a little bit of everything due to the unique taper, but it’s still got a lot of power when you need it. That’s my recommendation, I hope that it gives you a option to look at.
  11. Yes the 7.x ratio is about the standard for what people use for jerk baits, some use 8.x ratio but I prefer the 7.x. I just want to take up the slack line and nothing more, it’s that delicate balance of not moving the bait with the line that you pick up with the reel. The rod gives the bait your action and the reel maintains the right amount of slack to keep your movements consistent and correct.
  12. That’s funny 😆, it’s a really nice rod that doesn’t weigh much at all. I have mine paired with a tatula 80 that’s spooled up with 10lb daiwa samurai fluorocarbon line. The combo feels really nice in hand. I will admit that I started with daiwa reels and eventually transitioned to shimano reels mostly. I have had a steez a, 2 zillion g, tat elite, tatula sv tw and I always could feel the difference in the braking profiles. The steez an and tatula elite were my long casters and the other reels always felt a little bit over braked to me, who knows could just be my casting stroke preference. But I find that I get better distance from my shimano reels and I like them better. But the tatula 80 is nice and light and balances the rod nicely and so that is why I chose it. I will test it out more once the weather changes around here, I really want to get a slx 70 mgl to throw on it to test my theory out you know.
  13. I don’t have the victory rod, I have the legend tournament bass one though. It seems really good so far, I feel like I can really choose how I want to work the bait with the rod and I can tell what it is doing. I have not had a whole lot of time on it yet, I ended up getting towards the end of last season. I would imagine that the victory rod would be about the same.
  14. I got a ride to my normal haunt, picked up 4 more jerk baits. I was finishing up my color collection, I needed to get more black, gold colors. I saw an ito shiner and had to grab it, first time ever seeing one in a store. I had to get another deep tray for soft plastics storage in my tackle bag. I don’t think that I need anymore jerk baits, I think that I have over 50 now lol. That doesn’t mean that I don’t want more of them though.
  15. Yeah it looks like they changed a few things, added a couple different tapers. I think that they look good with what they have redesigned. I always liked the poison adrena rods that I had. I had 6’11 M+ and the MH spinning rod. They were good rods for sure. I can’t imagine the new ones being any less than they were.
  16. Those are some very nice colors, that’s what I love about Megabass baits. There color selection and combinations are a work of art.
  17. Yeah I have heard quite a few good things about them, the specifications are definitely nice also.
  18. Well I finally decided on a new tackle bag, well that’s if we count a decent sized duffel bag as one lol. I have been struggling to find a decent bag that I could carry most of my stuff in when I go out fishing. I have found a few but the price was a little higher than I liked. So I improvised. 2 jerk baits 1 crank 4 packs treble hooks 1 pack fat senkos 3 3700 trays 1 deep 3700 tray I still need to figure out about a couple more trays to fit in the bag, probably end up with a couple more deep 3700 is my guess. I want to have one for plastics, one for my scale and extra reels. That’s about it, I fit 7 trays in the bag so far and a Plano hydroflow spinner bait box, there’s still room left. I had to retire my old bag it was starting to wear out and get a little bit small. Now once I get my boat sealed up and the weather is nice again I will be all set to go with one bag in the boat or beating the bank.
  19. The last dc reel I owned was the previous metanium dc, it was decent. I definitely think that looking back that it was not quite worth the price of admission. I have learned that I enjoy to use my thumb and work on learning different reels, they are all different and have there little quirks and that’s what I enjoy is the challenge. Thanks for the recommendation, I will definitely give it a look.
  20. Here is the link that I have, I had to search and translate it and in the description it says new for the poison adrena. I hope that it helps https://fish.shimano.com/ja-JP/product/rod/bass/jackallxshimano/a075f00003xhfb5qam.html
  21. I didn’t know about it at first, I saw the thread title new metanium dc that I knew about, but then the original poster had mentioned a new slx mgl 70. I went to the site and looked and found it under reels, it has the mgl 3 spool, I copied the link and it is here below https://fish.shimano.com/ja-JP/product/reel/baitlurecasting/a075f000042pnchqac.html
  22. Yeah I like being able to hold it in my hands and decide, but sometimes change can be good. This time I might venture outside of my comfort zone. I am looking forward to see what it does, even though it’s a 70 I think that the line capacity is a little bit more than the current 70 mgl.
  23. I really like the looks of that new slx mgl 70, might actually make me finally order a reel from Japan. I have been wanting to just sort of been on the fence. Which I find odd due to the fact that I throw new and weird things when fishing without second guessing. But to order a reel instead of walking in and buying it is messing with my mind lol.
  24. I have used smallie beavers, baby rage bugs, and plenty of the smaller z-man bugs and craws with great success on the river that I fish for smallies. I usually have current where I am so a very lightly weighted Texas rig 1/8-3/8 depending on current and where I want the bait to target in the current. I have also used a ned lock z head, strike king swing head stand alone jig heads that you put your own hook on also. All viable options, I hope this helps you out.
  25. They said that we were supposed to get a winter storm today here, I never believe the forecast. I don’t really call 3-6 inches of snow anything really. When I use to live at my grandparents old place when I was 18, dead smack in the middle between kalkaska and grayling. 17 miles to town no matter what way you wanted to go. We use to get 14-16 inches overnight and nothing closed and life went on like normal, down here they would close everything down and declare an emergency if that happened lol. The winter has been very odd this year here, but there’s still time.
