  1. what about a way to remove the twist once the spinning reel is already spooled up? Say I spool it, then do something one time (twist doesnt come back) to remove all the twist, will this work, how to do it? Thanks guys
  2. Is line twist on spinning reels only possible with mono or flouro? If I have braid with no memory does it not matter? I should have said this is for spinning reels with braid. One person suggested putting the spool on the ground and having the line come off counterclockwise, will that work? Then I read that can twist and you need to turn over the spool again. Maybe I should just take off the spool and use a setup like they have at the tackle shop, any middle of the roads ones ppl can recommend?
  3. I usually go to the tackle shop to get my 4k sized spinning reel (SW reel) spooled up. Can they get a more even distribution of line/better line lay etc with the machine at the shop verses me just spooling by cranking it home w some tension? Would you guys say that is the better way to do it for those reasons or others and does is really make a difference?
  4. Perfect for a winter project. 18' Lund Alaskan hull with 1/8" double riveted - the original bulletproof Alaskan (They use thinner Al these days) for sale by original owner. Hull has been stripped and cleaned of all foam and wood, it's clean. Comes with a brand new in box Yamaha F50LB outboard (20" shaft remote steer) and trailer (fairly new hubs/tires/lights/coupler). Wood transom core removed as well. All that miserable work of cleaning out the crap is down, it's ready for restoration! I also have coosa board, foam, and fiberglass cloth, epoxy resin if you like. Check out the pics. $14k for hull, trailer, and motor. We can negotiate if you'd also like the other stuff I mentioned. Located in CT.
  5. I usually connect my braid to flouro leader with either a knot or a swivel, it's this connection point I was talking about thanks
  6. Something on the small side, anything that casts noticeably further than other small poppers? If you know of a small walk the dog that casts well include that too! Thanks all
  7. What categories of baits do you like using swivels for as opposed to just tying a knot. Obviously swivels prevent line twist and I know some people just use them all the time but which types (jerkbaits, jigs, plastics, spinner, topwater, ect) really warrant the swivel and why?
  8. Bump, help me understand my last post ?
  9. I want counter clockwise for spinning right but if I take line off the bottom, when I look at the spool from the side it appears to be spinning clockwise, is this wrong?
  10. Plano edge? I need something with large compartments where I can put large 8" swimbaits.
  11. When the spool is laying down (ends of cylinder are L/R not U/Down) why is taking line off the bottom for spinning better than off the top? Thanks!
  12. Some suggest you should match the bail rotation with how the new line comes off the spool (counter clockwise). Is this more important for mono and flouro than for braid due to memory and even then is it really important for avoiding line twist w mono? To do this I think you need to stand the new spool of line up (side w sticker up) vs just having it spin on a rod where its horizontal (sides w stickers on side). So is this important for preventing twists or not really? One more question: Is it bad to remove all the line off a spinning reel when the bail is closed, meaning does it wear down the drag to have the drag on for the whole removal of line off the reel?
  13. Rods stay in that hard bent position when using with a downrigger, can/should I use any rod with a downrigger? What is the ideal action/power, basically what makes downrigger rods special and is it really that much better? What rods might you recommend for stripers (think 8-25lb)? Don't mind coughing up for a nice one. I have an 8 foot mod fast casting rod, any good?
  14. Yes just the stainless parts for flip flop bench, anyone?
  15. I'm looking to buy or build a rod rack, it probably doesn't matter much but I can do either so is the ideal orientation standing vertically or horizontal? Any simple designs you like out there? I have 3 baitcaster/4 spinning FYI. Also regarding spinning reels, I read a post describing removing braid at the end of the season then putting that same line back on for the next season, but now the outer line was last season inner line and theres no wear on the line there, what is the easiest way to do this?
  16. Looking at the lifelines right now, heard much on them from actual users?
  17. @WRB @22RangerZ520R Or anyone else for that matter, any experience with Mastervolt or Lifeline? I have narrowed it down to these and northstar which the above fellas mentioned. Also it's strange to me that the lifeline for example group 31 is 64lb and has 105 AH where as group 27 was 62lb and has 100ah, so close I would go 27 all day, are there other reasons to go with group 31?
  18. For trolling.
  19. Who makes the best AGM batteries forgetting price? Need 12v, amp hour > 90 Anyone any experience with Lifeline?
  20. Flip Flop hardwear, just like this, most others go down low on the sides of the fiberglass box, this does not. Where can I find just the hardwear? Site I took the pic from only sells it as part of the whole unit. Thanks
  21. I'm about to buy a new fish finder after many many years. Is there anything out there that can look ahead and see rocks that I might hit with the boat? Like see a rock thats only a foot under the surface? I see some images online with screens that seem to look forward. Anything like this out there? And a more general question, garmin vs hummingbird vs lowrance vs whoever, who does what the best and whats your personal favorite and why. I am a newbie with modern day tech but plan on learning.
  22. I mean moving that distance after a 28 foot cobalt goes by at 40. Big wakes on my lake will push you quite a ways and I dont know how well spot lock will do. Vs two poles
  23. Bottom here is mostly rock, when I go shallow I dont trust spot lock to keep from moving into rocks that might only be 10-15 feet away. Otherwise I would just spot lock and done, just a matter of talon vs pp for those reasons, I think lol
  24. From what I have read fewer people seem to have issues with poles, but I like how the talons stick up much less. 68" for poles pp blade vs 49" for the talons (10 ft versions). Since I have a bimini I need to side arm back there and I imagine that nearly 20 inch difference would be nice. Do talons suck?
  25. I've got 3 rods (MH, M, ML) all fast action. 2 part question, for jerkbaits and topwater specifically. I hear for moving baits you want a moderate action rod so the hooks dont rip out, but can I make up for the fast action rod with line stretch like with... 1. all mono 2. braid to fluoro using soft steel (inviz not enough stretch in 5 ft leader right?) 3. strait flouro like invizx or tatsu Should I not think of jerk and topwater as being similar like this? Should I just get another rod if so which, any other suggestions?
