  1. Not that much gear to be honest. 2 maybe 3 rods and a small tackle bag. Edit: just looked up those models and ouch. Have to find a different kayak or just invest in a boat
  2. I'm interested in purchasing a kayak and am a pretty big guy. 6'4" and about 370. How important is it to match the weight capacity of a kayak with my weight? Never used or been in a kayak before. I hear that sit-ins are nice for stability. Any suggestions or anything else to look for I should know? TIA. Tight lines
  3. 160y of 4lb is hardly shallow IMHO. I want to try out some ester line but the stuff I want to try only comes in 80m spools. I just don't want have to worry about backing, main line, and leader.
  4. I'm looking at purchasing a Fine Tail Area Trout rod this year and would like to find a reel to use with it. I'd love to get a JDM reel as well, but that's not an option since I'm getting the rod. Are there any reels state side that I could consider that would have a shallow spool or super shallow spool? Looking at a 1000 size or possibly 2000 size. I've also tried to find spools for my Revros LT, but haven't found anything. The main reason is I'd like to try some Varivas ester line. If I can't give find a reel or spool for my Revros, I'll just use backing on it, just don't really want to do that. If I had a line counter it would make things a lot easier. One last thing, since I just remembered, is there a specific tool to use to check and set your drag? TIA and tight lines!
  5. I can't cast with my left arm to save my life. I find it much easier to cast and control the bait with my right arm/hand since I'm right handed. I also wouldn't have the strength to set the hook with my left, I never understood why people would switch to the other hand.
  6. I'm not sure that really matters. I'm right handed, so should I use the reel with my right hand or left???
  7. My son is turning 3 in just a couple short months. I'd like to pick him up a rod and reel for his birthday. I'm not sure how I feel about a "Spiderman" rod. He has played with a few of my spinning reels but that might be too much to start with. How would an underspin be for a kid? Or is a Zebco 33 the best starting reel? Tight lines!
  8. Not exactly what I'm looking for. Unless it will work with a spinning reel
  9. Same line, rod, reel and conditions.
  10. I don't have an issue casting a 1/32 jig and small plastic. It's the smaller jigs I have problems with. The line I'm using is the smallest diameter line I could find, at least state side. I don't really use the lighter jigs in much wind. Anything over 5mph and it just seems pointless.
  11. Primarily lakes. From what I've been seeing from the responses here and other places it will be either a trout rod or ajing rod. The ajing rods have a lure weight that's closer to what I'd be using than a trout rod. There are a ton of companies to look at and figure out what rod would be best suited for me
  12. Panfish(crappy, gills, pumpkin seed, perch) in general, occassionally a rock bass. Just by default because of using jigs and plastics, I will hook into a largemouth bass on occasion.
  13. Good idea on the scale! My wife has a USPS one for her business. I think I can change it to display grams. Would there be any distinct disadvantages to using an Ajing rod in freshwater? Would they potentially be not as sensitive? I heard about the Ajing rods on FB and just started looking at those too. I don't think I've ever used a solid tip rod before either. I'm guessing that helps with sensitivity. Definitely have a good starting point to start my own research. Are there any brands that I need to stay away from? Thanks for all the input and help guys! Tight lines
  14. Thanks for all the info! I just wish they had bigger spools of line. Out of curiosity, what reel do you pair with your rods?
  15. 13 Fishing Defy Silver. I don't mind switching lines. Someone else I was talking with suggested Varivas Twitch Master line. Do you have a link to the line you use?
  16. Do you think going SUL vs UL would yield a noticeable difference in casting? Or would just switching to a JDM UL be a good enough difference with what I currently have?
  17. Mainly panfish but get the occasional bass due to using jigs and plastics. Maybe I'm focusing on the lure weight too much. I'd like to be able cast a 1/64oz jig and plastic as far as I can with a 1/32oz jig and plastic. I'm using the thinnest 2lb mono I can find. I suppose JDM rods will actually handle 1/64 quite a bit better than a rod in the US that is rated for 1/32
  18. Maybe but I cast considerably farther with 1/32 than a 1/64. I also don't know the conversions. I don't throw anything lighter than 1/64 because I don't think I could with my current rods. Not stuck on JDM just don't really have that much faith in products from the US. What is .9g in reference to like 1/32 or 1/64?
  19. I don't see any 7' rods. Does it really matter to much if the rods are meant to throw lighter lures? Still have the mindset that a longer rod is better for casting distance, but maybe that only applies if the rod is meant to throw heavier lures ?‍♂️
  20. Haven't used the trout magnets too much to be honest. Mule Fishing jigs and plastics. What do you mean by "regular" area? I'm assuming the "glass" area is fiberglass, those aren't as sensitive as a carbon blank, correct?
  21. Possibly going to be in the market for a new rod. I've been thinking about a JDM rod. I'll be looking at an UL or SUL and would prefer a 7', 1 piece(not totally necessary), spinning rod. Something that can throw 1/64 ounce jigs, which seems to be .3g Normally I would do a lot of my own research on a buy like this, but I just don't know where to start. A lot of sites seem to be sold out of everything I look at or are just a pain to navigate. Not looking to spend a ton. But I think something under 200USD should be obtainable, just need a starting point. Thanks in advance. Tight lines!
  22. Maybe I'll just forget it then. I made the mistake of doing the same thing with a baitcaster setup and then ended up selling it for a loss. Not gonna do it again
  23. Was thinking about giving fly fishing a go this year. I'm just not sure where to start. Primary target would be bluegill but if course there are bass in the lakes as well. Would prefer some kind of combo that comes with everything needed. Hoping to find a combo under $100. Thanks for your input
  24. First off, I apologize if this is the wrong section. Wasn't sure where else to post. I really like the Bitsy Minnows but the hooks seem like they always get hooked together. What are some ways to solve this without ruining the action of the lure? Thanks for your help!
  25. Guess I could try the Albright. Looks like it's essentially the same knot, just don't make wraps in between the first set of wraps like the Alberto
