  1. I'm in Cary but I typically list Raleigh in Forums since that's more recognizable. I fish Jordan, Harris, and Falls, mostly Jordan these days since I store my new boat on hwy 64. My local fishing buddy and I fish portions PBC tournament trail. I Saltwater fish out of CB. I've tied the blood knot but had breaking issues when fishing for redfish. The teeth method makes it really hard to tie the FG on the water. The triangle method in the video makes it a lot easier.
  2. I used to tie it that way, requiring the rod to apply tension to the braid. Now I tie it the way he does in the video and there’s no need for rod tension, or even a rod.
  3. I have similar experience. I'm trying to convince my tournament buddy to switch to the FG.
  4. I used to think that same way until I started to tie the FG the way Matt does in the video. The knot is cleaner and smaller than when I used to tie it with my teeth.
  5. I fish inshore in Saltwater, not offshore. My leaders are all between 12 and 20lbs with braid from 10-40lbs. I brought a reel in from the garage and a spool of fluoro and practiced tying the FG this method one evening. I can now tie it in about 2 minutes. I've caught 9lb redfish on 10lb braid and 15lb leaders tied with and FG this way. The knot is so small it can run into the spool of baitcast and spinning reels without an issue.
  6. I live in NC and fish both Fresh and Saltwater, which means most of my rods are braid to leader. In the Saltwater world, especially way out East in Australia, the FG knot is king. I tie an FG on all my braid rods with about a 12' long fluoro leader of various lb-test depending on the application. I find that running braid greatly increases casting distance and sensitivity on bottom contact lures. Plus, for us weekend warriors the braid tends to last at least a whole year, saving some money in the long run. This is the FG knot that I tie:
  7. I saltwater and bass fish from my Egret Moccasin 210. What boat are you rigging that can do both well? I have an Echomap Ultra 12” on my console. I do not have any experience with the new ultra 2’s. I like the Ultra but the resolution is a bit lower than I was expecting. If it were me, I would go with a single 16” graph on the console, I just like the simplicity of one larger graph. Plus, there’s less wires to run. If you go with a Kraken you have the option of LiveScope (I wish I could do the same). Go with 2 ultra 12” graphs in the now for mapping and LiveScope.
  8. I'm also having issues with this. I'm not able to update my avatar or my bio info. Where did you find the settings? It's not like I'm new to using forums, just this one.
  9. I live in Cary and actually had a baby so I sold my fishing boat last fall. If you ever want to hit up Jordan or Shearon Harris let me know.
