  1. Wife and daughter wanted to go after work tonight so we squeezed in an hour. I only caught two including this one (4.53)
  2. I've lost a lot of good fish on the jump but, my don't they look pretty.
  3. Turtle Fishing with a jig, I felt that long awaited tap. I set the hook and brought up this beauty.
  4. Congrats on your PB. Fishing in the rain can yield unexpectedly good results. I ain't afraid to do it so long as there's no lightning.
  5. Pardon me if this has been asked before but, just how relevant is color? Or perhaps more specifically, variations of color. Let me explain why I ask. My buddy told me during the pre-spawn and spawn that Watermelon Seed/Red Flake rigged wacky style was the only thing working. He explained that when the sun came out, those red flakes were calling the bass. I started fishing them and was catching medium sized bass. But, horror of horrors, the unthinkable happened. I was on the lake and ran out of red flake. All I had was blue or black flake. I just knew I was doomed to failure....but I was wrong. Dem' basses kept right on eatin like dey jus' didn't care! So, that begs the question, how much do we over think color? I mean, yeah, you have to consider water clarity but, after that, does it really matter? Or is it more about presentation.
  6. Very nice fish. I'd settle for either one of the LM's.
  7. Hobbies can be expensive. I don't like to think what I've spent on guns, fishing gear and woodworking tools ?
  8. I have two Lowrance units in the boat. One, the Hook4 came stock in the console. I later added a Hook7 Reveal tripleshot at the front with down view, side view, and sonar. What I DIDN'T know when I bought it was that, for SV to work effectively, you've got to be moving at some speed above what my 45lb thrust TM can generate. I wish I'd have been a member here when I bought so I could have asked some questions. Oh well. Maybe one day, Santa will gift me with a nice 12" Garmin with Livescope. I'll move ethe Hook7 to the console.
  9. I'd posted a similar question. Found i couldn't edit nor update my avatar. Finally, after my 10th post, both functions were available.
  10. Anybody have any experience with this brand of rod? I'm guessing it's Academy's in-house brand. Very inexpensive but, are they worth it? What do you sacrifice? I'm not a professional so I'm hesitant to spend the money on a high-end rod. I can get one of these in a 7' medium heavy/fast for about $30.
  11. I've got an app on my phone that give you the major (and minor) bite times for each day. I believe it's based on moon phase, etc. The only problem with it is, nobody communicates those times with the bass ? I've gone out at times that the app said were strong and been skunked. I've been out other times where the fishing was predicted to be tough and caught more fish than I wanted to count. I guess my point is, as others have said, the best time to fish is when you have time. Fish gotta eat!
  12. I'm confused. Just because the new child will cost you millions over a life time, what does that have to do with buying a boat. Heck, you'll have at least 8.5 months to enjoy it ? Just kidding, of course.
  13. There are spots on my lake where I've been known to catch crappie on a small crankbait. If the bass aren't biting, I'll toss that bait in those areas because I like catching fish. By the same token, I've been known to toss a small cricket hopper for brim on light tackle. Some days, I'll fish areas where I don't regularly catch bigger fish but know there's plenty of 12" - 14" bass. In fact, i went last night for a couple hours and put 9 in the boat where the largest may have been 1lb. It was still fun and relaxing.
  14. Is there a way to edit your profile picture/avatar? All I have now is a bit white G on a blue background
  15. S&W Shield in 9mm... Why? Because I can ?. Because it's our right to do so. And so I can protect the ones I love. Or is the WHY question more about why I carry what I carry? If so, it's because it conceals we and shoots accurately. It's my "get to a better gun" gun.
  16. Now, don't shoot me or call me treasonous but, my hobbies don't end with fishing. I'm a country music singer (back in the day) that plays a little guitar and an amateur woodworker. This 8' 4" farmhouse table was my latest project. The top is red oak that came from local trees and was rough cut to 1"x6". A planing and jointing and this was the result. The base is from reclaimed pine, cleaned up and painted. The chairs we bought.
  17. I carry a Kershaw 3/4 Ton Lock blade.
  18. Thanks. I am an SEC guy. Roll Tide!
  19. I totally enjoyed the video. It was very informative and certainly changed a couple of misconceptions I had about the spawn (duration, empty beds, color vs presentation). Interestingly enough, I've watched a ton of your videos in the past, well before I joined this site. You do an outstanding job of simplifying whatever topic you're working on. Please keep it up.
  20. While fishing last weekend, two male Mallard ducks came swimming towards my boat. As I moved on, they followed. They stayed right beside me for several minutes. Finally, i took their picture. That must have been what they were after as they moved on afterwards.
  21. I served in the US Army from 1980 to Oct of 1989 taking a 60 day terminal leave. I was a SSGT when I left working in the 98H30 MOS. After doing basic at Dix, I spent 3 years in Augsburg, followed by a 2 year stint as an AIT instructor at Ft. Devens. After a 1 year tour at Camp Hovey in S. Korea, I finished my military career with 3 years at Ft. Meade, MD. I enjoyed my Army days. Sometimes I wish I'd done at least another 10 but that wasn't what the Lord had in store for me.
