  1. These combos we bought were only like $40, I'd have to measure the length to be sure
  2. My wife made the video with an iPhone 8 This same issue is happening with multiple rods/reels, so I think it is us.
  3. Hello, First day of Spring and second time fishing. Carlos had some more trouble with his reel but we bought an extra rod for lure fishing. We have Zebco push button reels with 8lb test line, two #5 split shots with a hook on the bottom. We’re only getting about 20 feet on our casts no matter how much weight we use, so I'm not sure what we're doing wrong. Carlos got really frustrated so Mommy ran him home. Thankfully we’re only about 10 minutes away from the lake. After Carlos left I fished with a spinner lure, which I enjoyed but again only got about 20 feet on the casts. I had fun. Any advice on weight or casting would be appreciated. See video for casting reference - https://youtu.be/w2CNtDk4hPI Thanks, Rich
  4. I purchased some Rocket Bobbers after watching 2 YouTube videos that were amazing. So, can/would one use a bobber of any kind with a lure or is that not what they are designed for?
  5. Does a Rocket Bobber still require a Bobber Stop when used as a slip bobber? I'm unable to use bobber stops due to my low vision, they are just too hard to see and work with.
  6. I wish I could use a sliding bobber but I'm legally blind and don't have the hand/eye coordination needed to setup a small bobber stop, which is also why I can't tie the vast majority of fishing knots.
  7. Hello, What is a Snelled hook and how doe is differ from a regular hook? Thanks, Rich
  8. Hello, I'm a new Angler and I had a question. When creating fishing lines/rigs why is it necessary to cut the tag off of knots? Thanks, Rich
  9. I looked into the slip bobber and with all the small parts of a bobber stopper and my low vision a traditional bobber looks like it will work better for me.
  10. Hello, I'm from Colorado and I know this is a Bass Fishing site/forum but as a new Angler I think I should start with pan fish, which I'm assuming is a smaller fish that can easily be cooked in a pan. Colorado has 20 different catchable species of fish broken down as follows: Trout (5 species) Kokanee Salmon (1) Mountain Whitefish (1) Splake (1) Grayling (1) Wiper (1) Walleye (1) Saugeye (1) Yellow Perch (1) Channel Catfish (1) Smallmouth Bass (1) Largemouth Bass (1) Tiger Muskie (1) Black Crappie (1) Bluegill (1) Green Sunfish (1) I have only heard of half of these species and the lakes near my house in the suburbs only have about 6 species. I know there are more in the mountain lakes but I'm not quite there yet. I bought a bunch of crank bait when I should have bought pan fish lures, oh well, this is a learning process. I have also learned that a good line to tie for bait fishing goes as follows: Hook (tag end) About 1.5 to 2 feet of line split shot(s) About 2 feet of line Bobber About 2 feet of line Snap swivel I'm going to try this line after the huge snow storm we are supposed to have melts away. As always any comments are appreciated. I really want to get on the water but it is still a little early. Thanks, Rich
  11. Do plastics need sinkers as well as a hook?
  12. I'm using the clinch not as I couldn't figure out the improved clinch knot using the tool.
  13. Hello, This is the story of our first time fishing. Early on Saturday morning (3/5/21) we tried lure fishing from this crap pond near our house because we didn't have any hooks. My son, Carlos (he is 10-years old,) snagged his line and lost the line and lure. He got really upset because he had named the lure. We told him not to get attached to his crank bait. Late in the evening, around 4:30pm we went to Jim Baker Reservoir. We tried bait fishing from the dock, which was a bad idea as we both snagged and lost our lines. Carlos’ reel got really tangled and took me over an hour to fix. After losing my line I rebuilt it with crank bait and Carlos took it to a spot a few yards from the dock and snagged it losing the entire line, lure and all. Very frustrating and disappointing first time out! I wanted to buy a lure retrieval tool but from what I've found through research and this forum so far is that those only work from boats and not the bank/shore. We're going to try a different part of that same lake in a few more weeks. Rich
  14. Hello, Does a Lure retrieval tool work from the bank/shore? I found a kit at Bass Pro I'm thinking about buying. Thanks, Rich
  15. Hello, I just started fishing 3 days ago. I live in Denver, CO and I'm legally blind which makes fishing challenging. Tying fishing knots is nearly impossible. I've done a lot of research and asked a lot of questions. Here is what I learned so far. BASS PRO SHOPS - Customer Service: I went to Bass Pro Shops here in Denver, CO and talked to a sales guy, I think he might be the department manager. He has been VERY helpful after I explained my situation. There have been A LOT of trips to the store as a result of a lot of trial and error. ROD/REEL: I tried an open face (bait caster) reel but quickly found it wasn't for me. The line kept getting tangled beneath the reel, I think that is called bird nesting, it was horrible. At my family's suggestion I changed to a Spin caster reel and learned as much about using it and fixing it as I could and so far I like it a lot better. I'm still learning how to cast though. LINE/KNOTS: Being legally blind the only knot I can tie, using extreme magnification, is the double overhand loop knot. I did find a tool at Bass Pro that allows me to tie a clinch knot called the clinch knot tying tool. For bait fishing I'm using a 3/8oz. sinker at the bottom of my line then a hook about 2 feet up and then a bobber. I also put a bell on the end of my rod. For lure fishing I'm using a swivel on the bottom of my line. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rich
